Any chance there's a typo in your profile name, or the patterns you're matching against? Also note that if your patterns contain uppercase characters, the match will be case-sensitive; if there's a slash in your profile name, that will also cause a problem, as will any other special pattern-matching character.
Has anybody had a problem with the "Toggle Wifi" setting of Wifi near leaving the Wifi on? It is supposed to switch it on for 15 seconds then switch it off, but sometimes it's getting left on.
I recently seem to be having a problem with this, but I'm not sure if it's the same. There are times when I notice Wifi is set to on, and I wait to see if it is just a scan but after 1-2 minutes I get impatient and turn it off.
It also seems like my scans are happening too frequently with the settings I have.
Perhaps Uncle Mike (thanks for all your help before btw, you rock!) or any other experts could help me figure this out?
Here is what I've done so far. Kind of long so I'll use spolier tags...
I have a single profile with a Wifi Near context. I have the Wifi scan timing set to 600 seconds. I also have the All Checks setting at 600 for when the screen is off. This means Wifi will turn on to check for the Wifi Near every 10 minutes, right?
At first, I became suspicious because I noticed that my Wifi is coming on all the time. For example, while using my phone and going in and out of tasks, I will see that Wifi (according to the widget) has turned on quite often (approx every 1-2 minutes it seemed).
My home profile is set with an exit task to turn off wifi when that Wifi Near is no longer active. All day at work Wifi should be turned off as there is no Wifi signal there. In addition, this morning I verified manually that it was set to off when I arrived at work. When I got home, the battery log on my phone said Wifi was using 25% of my battery during the day, and that Wifi was on for 11 hours! That's the entire day since I left.
Since I was suspicious, I set up another profile to log my Wifi activity. The context is the variable %WIFI ~ on. On activation, it writes %DATE and %TIME to a file along with "on". As an exit task, it writes the date and time again but with "off".
I verified that Wifi was off, and then turned off my screen and left the phone idle for approximately a half hour. Then I checked the log. It shows that the Wifi is regularly turning on and off for a 1 min interval (or less) period. This happens every 2-3 minutes.
I don't believe I have any other apps that would be toggling Wifi in this manner. (I'm not even sure what apps might do that, but I'm open to suggestions on what to check.) My assumption is that it must be something in tasker, but for the life of me I can't figure it out.
As I noted, I only have 1 location profile setup - Wifi Near for when I'm at home. All other profiles are based on states, variables, time or apps that are open.
So, why is my Wifi turning on to perform checks every 2-3 minutes instead of 10?
I have yet to capture something leaving the WiFi on for an extended period (other than when I'm at home and it is supposed to do that). Perhaps that part is just my imagination...

Not sure what was wrong before but I got it working correctly now. I use a permanent notification when the profile is enabled, and a clear notification when its not. Thanks for all the help.

One thing I can think of that might leave Wifi on when you would expect it to be off is that when your turn off your device, (I think) Tasker doesn't restore settings to the state they would be in when no profiles are active. So if you have Wifi on as a result of an active profile, then shut your device down, when it starts back up again, Tasker sees the pre-profile Wifi state as ON. Then when your profile deactivates, Tasker leaves Wifi on.
I haven't had the time to fully check this out, but I think I saw something about this somewhere.

I used to use network location to turn Wifi on/off, but had a problematic tower nearby that was causing me grief. I ended up using these two profiles instead:
Profile: WifiScan
Context: Wifi Near [ Toggle Wifi: Yes ]
Enter Task: Stop
Profile: WifiConnect
Context: Wifi Connected [ SSID:MySSID ]
Enter Task: Wifi On
For this second profile, could you test what happens if an Open network is available, but that network is NOT remembered by your phone?
I have a Wifi Near profile (for home) and a Wifi Connected profile (for other access points that I have "remembered" in my phone).
I just noticed today that Tasker will wake up, perform the Wifi Near scan, and I'll get a notification in the notification bar that an open network is available. My phone doesn't connect to the network (it isn't remembered) yet my Wifi stays on constantly when this happens.
My Wifi connected profile is not active. In fact, no profiles are active at all.
I think there's a bug in the Wifi Near that keeps Wifi on all the time if your phone detects an open network...

I'm still experiencing a similar problem with Wifi not turning off. Tasker is also not obeying my Wifi scanning frequency preferences. Like you, I also set up a log file to monitor the Wifi on/off switching. My preference is set to scan every 3 minutes; however sometimes the delay is only 2 minutes, sometimes 7 minutes, with probably an average of 5 minutes.
The bigger problem is the Wifi being stuck on. Looking through the log file, the toggling seems to be working great, I'll have 20 or so successful toggles in a row--on then off again like it should. But then inexplicably Wifi is turned on and then stays on until I go turn it off manually. It can't go for more than an hour or so without it getting stuck on.
I love Tasker but this constant babysitting of my Wifi connection is tiring.

The shorter times could be when you turn on your screen to use the phone. That is normal. Have you checked or posted on the official tasker forum? I don't have access to google groups in my country. It is blocked. I'd appreciate it if you could report back anything you figure out.

Had this happen to me again today. Annoying. I don't recall it happening in the previous version, so I'm thinking I might downgrade and see what happens. Using 1.0.10 now.
Out of curiosity, what phone do you have? I have HTC Desire with the stock Sense UI.
Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and I am new to android in general and I have just downloaded tasker. I have been playing around with it and it seems very powerful. My wife has always wanted to be able to have her phone automatically send pictures she takes with her camera to her email. I was hoping someone out there might be able to figure out a way to make this happen with tasker. Thanks for the help everyone and I will be frequenting this forum as I am sure this will not be my last question about tasker.

By itself, Tasker cannot send an email, it can only compose one. On the Tasker Wiki there is a script for sending email, but I've never looked at it to see what's needed to make it work.
Anyone notice that when Tasker shows an active profile in the Notifications window, it is 364 days off? NOT even a year. Today is Nov 8, 2010 (11/8/10) and my Tasker shows Nov 7, 2011 (11/7/11) I noticed this a couple of weeks ago and thought is was a ROM problem, but as I am now on my third ROM since then, it is definitely (and ONLY) Tasker. At least it got the right Day of the week (both dates are a Monday)
As long as they do not conflict at all there is no reason why more than 1 should not run at the same time. I frequently have more than one profile running at the same time.
Can tasker allow me to only receive notification of an SMS from a particular source and ignore other SMS and email notifications while Im sleeping?
Thanks

I honestly have not figured out what I am doing wrong... I need to get on the wiki again I guess. The only ones I have that work are my silent times at work, and bring up the music menu when headphones of bluetooth connect, and when they connect do a music stop. My location based one for my house seems to work, but only part of the time. I think that is a setting and I need to look at it further.

If the profile isn't becoming active at all, it could be that your phone doesn't recognize your car dock as a "dock".
I have a docking station at home, but it is only recognized as A/C power, not as a dock.
Remember, you can test your tasks to make sure they are set up correctly. In each task is a "Test" button. So, if the task works as expected when you test it, then the next thing to check is to see when the profile is becoming active.
When I set up new profiles, I will often include either an audio alert or a log to a file (Write File with variables %DATE %TIME written to a log file) so that I can check to see when it is turning on or off. Once I am satisfied that it is working, I remove those tasks.
