Anyone worried about the size?

i'm sure they must have thought of this and decided against it though? The point of the touch buttons are that they are accessible at all times, regardless of what content you have on the screen. Getting rid of it wouldn't do much as it would just be replaced by having the exact same buttons, but on the screen- so no extra space for actual content.

Also, I don't know if it's just my old hardware, but there times when my HTC hero screen crashes, or the app i'm using crashes and the whole screen goes unresponsive, and I just use the physical buttons to abort and take me back to the main screen. You won't be able to this without dedicated buttons.
 
capacitive buttons on the bottom should stay. Personally, I don't use the search button ever, so I wouldn't mind shrinking it down to three. But an Android without search isn't very Google... so maybe squeeze the 4 buttons slightly closer together. Cause I seem to accidentally touch the corner buttons a lot. Or the better solution IMO is to make those buttons less sensitive to the touch, like on the Droid Inc and Nexus One.

You can't have a screen without a little bezel, cause then a case might obscure part of the touchscreen, which means you can't move icons/widgets across homescreens. Evo's narrow bezel on the L/R sides is about as narrow as it can get.
 
Heh...an all screen front? Where would the mic, speaker, light sensor, and front facing camera go, then?

Another reason why this won't happen is aspect ratio. 16:9 is the most preferred aspect ratio. Stretching the screen to fill in the bezel would distort this. So images would look stretched. Or movies would have black boxes on either side of videos. Then what would the point of the longer screen be?

But they could make the phone shorter by moving the buttons somewhere else. I wonder how realistic it would be to put all the buttons on the side. Let's say 6 capacitive spots on either side. 6? Why 6!?! 3 buttons will be for 3 of the 4 fingers on that side. One on the other for the thumb. The other 2 would be so that you could configure it for left or right handed use. It wouldn't be so useful in landscape mode, though :\
 
Funny how engineering works. It's all about sacrifices.

This applies to the kickstand particularly well.
 
I want a bigger phone!!!!!!!! I'm tired of when I text on my current phone ALWAYS hitting the wrong button. The 4.3 screen size is going to be a time saver.

Actually, its only the screen that is a bit narrower (and a bit taller). The LxW dimensions of the phone are the same, although it is slightly thinner. I thought this too, but EM corrected me. :)

Looks too much like an old-gen iPhone. I never liked how they looked. Especially if it's a unibody. And that only really matters if it isn't a hoax, but certainly is possible to make.
 
Oh and if anyone is sill worried about the size. Stop at your local phone case dealer in the mall. They'll most likely already have EVO 3D cases. I took the cases out and held them and compared em to my Evo on hand and the didn't feel ridiculous in the hand.

After you own a phone with a 4" or greater screen for a few days, you don't even notice the size.

It all seems perfectly normal really fast.

When the Evo first showed face there was all this wailing over the size, but you don't hear that talk much anymore after people realized the problem was all in their head.

Every other phone that comes out, someone will say it looks like an iphone. The iphone looks like every other smart phone that's out in the world as well. I know what I bought and that's what matters.

if you have an EVO... the E3D will be no big difference...
size should not be a concern. the are very little noticeable difference.
 
I remember worrying how the EVO was going to be too big and now I would never go back to a smaller screen. Internet You Tube and more is so much better on the big screen. It's awesome! I can't wait for the 3D!
 
Considering Ice Cream Sandwich nixes capactive buttons, in 2012 we should get bigger screens but in the same size package as the current Evo and Evo3D.

Though, it's only a matter of time before someone makes an overkill phone that will surpass what most will regard as a reasonable size for a phone.

The point of having more screen real estate and no buttons isn't necessarily for the UI or home screens but for other functions such as apps. Browsing the web, playing games, and so on will be that much more enjoyable with a 4.5-5" screen.

As a side note, the EVO supposedly has a 4.3" screen, correct? The actual dimensions of the screen are about 3.8x2.4, with the EVO itself being 4.8x2.6 (If you include the place of the four hardware buttons it is 4.3"). Leave the sides the same but get rid of the hardware buttons and extend it a little further and you could easily get a 4.5" screen on the EVO, even more so on the 3D (.7" would make a huge difference with movies, games, web, etc.).
