Root AOKP 4.2 (jb-mr1) Discussion

I wanted to let everyone know who prefers CM10.1 to AOKP42 that this actually runs quite smooth. I've been running it for two days and it's definitely very close to running as smooth as CM10.1 does. So any of you who may have been avoiding this for that reason I would say give it a try. I haven't added any tweaks to it because I've been testing it for tdm and I've been pleasantly surprised with how it's ran.

I do want to say that when I first flashed it it did have some lag issues but I guess that was just because the system was not yet finished applying itself. It seems to me after running it for a couple hours and getting everything setup and established and going through a couple reboot cycles everything smoothed out and I'm actually thinking about making this my DD for awhile, and perhaps even permanently; since I'm starting to like the extra features of AOKP and I might miss them if I went back to CM :p

Hope this helps someone.

PS. now if we could get a kernel that overclocks to 1836 with the lagfree Governor *cough trigger cough* we'd be good! :p

Did they update the notification toggle/tile appearance? That was my main reason for switching back to CM10.1, performance was basically the same (ran the AOKP preview for about a week I guess). Just out of curiosity, which extra features do you use? I feel like CM has everything I used on AOKP and the settings are easier to navigate, maybe just cause I'm used to them!

Switching ROMs because of how toggles look seems like a dumb reason I know, but they're very comparable on everything else. It's awesome we have 2 ROMs that are both so good the choice comes down to personal preference!

I know what you mean about the toggles, the toggles in CM do look better but really I've tried to look past that. Plus I have quite a few themes I toggle between that keep things interesting.

As far as features I use in AOKP that I can't use in CM the first would be the center clock with the small text day of the week (shutup whoever remembers me complaining over and over during brokenout days about the center clock to where mt even wrote me a uncenter clock zip :p ) I also like the navigation bar since you can auto hide it and I like the navigation ring that comes with it. I like being able to customize my vibration patterns. I like the extra features in performance options. and I like how it provides you a shortcut for changing the boot animation (not that it's hard with a root explorer). I like the couple extra features it provides in the power menu. And though I'm not currently using it I like the option to switch to tablet mode if I want. I think if I had a 5 or 5.5in phone that would be a feature I would use for sure.

As far as downsides compared to CM I would say the slight lag I notice in the notification window animation and the lockscreen lock button.

Lol, was gonna compare me choosing a ROM cause of the toggles to those who chose not to use BO cause of the center clock... Had forgot it was you!

Thanks for sharing specific features, I did like the ability to change the font color on the standard lockscreen, but have replaced it with Dashclock or HD widgets anyway.

The lockscreen delay is gone in CM, and I don't notice a lag in the notification window.

Not arguing with you, I think they're both incredible ROMs, just curious to know why people choose one over the other :D.

You misunderstood me, I was saying as far as the downsides of AOKP when compared to CM is the notification window lags in AOKP and the lockscreen slider in AOKP also has some lag to it.

I just want to preface by saying thank you to all the dev's who work so hard for this community. I don't really post ever but I do keep track and download your roms, and I'm sure there are many like me, so thank you.

Now, this is my first time trying an AOKP rom. Is it just me, or can you not resize the homescreen? I did a full clean wipe and installed the official AOKP "mr1" version.

I usually run CM, so I'm used to being able to change the # of rows/columns on the homescreen, and for the life of me I can't find that on AOKP...

Is this something you can't do on AOKP?

You will probably find all those settings under rom control.

I don't know if the stock launcher can resize but iirc it can't. Nova can and I personally use it.

Note AOKP removed Nova launcher for this build. It's in the play store so it was redundant. Get it there.

you use the stock launcher.... O_o

If you like the look of the stock launcher but want options then you have three great choices. You have nova, apex, and holo HD If you want a really neat launcher that smokes all those then get ADW ex.

No problem. I won't be blamed if you melt your phone though.

not at all. Like I said I ran my phone at 1836 pretty much the whole time we had GB and that was during the summer. My phone doesn't really heat up unless I'm using it nonstop while being plugged in. But Honestly, The phone should reboot due to heat before it gets hot enough to damage anything. But I never see it happening because my phone doesn't really run much hotter at 1836 than it does at 1512.

Kind of, it works most of the time and then just randomly drops off. I never had this problem on 4.1. I have to reboot the phone to get bluetooth to come back on.

Sounds very similar to what I am seeing on CM 10.1 M2 and every nightly since.

Thanks for info! :)

Anyone know how to turn fast charge on? I think it used to be under performance but I can't find it now. I see it under the quick settings but it just flashes when I click it. I love this feature. Who wants to charge there phone slow?

That's a feature that has to be added in the kernel. It's not in any of our kernels that I know of. Also, it only makes a difference if you're charging from a usb port on a computer.
