Root AOKP 4.2 (jb-mr1) Discussion

Benchmarks bblenchmarks... My lg spectrum can feel smoother than my quad core tegra 3 nexus 7, and my N7 gets 17000 so, really in my opinion numbers can't change your devices actual smoothness at times

I NEVER get good benchmark scores on my device. I gave up using them as a litmus for quality of a rom.

But while we're on the subject...

to me bench marking is not accurate. those numbers means nothing to me, i dont care if the number is high or low it means nothing. how i bench mark it is how it feels when your using it.

Wake up on charger setting is missing :( just compared side by side with girlfriend's lg spectrum on AOKP 4.2.2 and my s3 on AOKP 4.2.2 also. Is that setting only device specific? /settings/general ui.

Probably forgot a setting in the overlay. I'll try to remember to check later today.

I still have to return to stock ZV6 using Neph's method, and then take the OTA to ZV7 before flashing this.

What I'm curious about is if there is any benefit to taking the ZV8 update, and if I do, is it still unlockable/rootable with pwnage?

You can flash this in cwm. You don't need to take the ota. Just flash the v7 baseband as well.

I thought people were having issues with GPS lock/accuracy if they didn't take the OTA and get a GPS lock -- is that not still the case?

I'm still on Broken Out 3.0 (GB / ZV6) and whatever CWM was around at the time. Do I even need to update CWM before flashing?

Looks like there are actually ZV8 baseband files available, even though I didn't think that update included new radios: http://androidforums.com/spectrum-all-things-root/675770-baseband-flashable-basebands-lg-vs920.html

I don't think v8 really changed the radios. I ripped those for tdm just on case they were different.

On the official cm and AOKP releases you shouldn't need to take the ota and get a lock. Tdm swapped the GPS portions for the GB versions done the ICS versions needed the ota to activate something in the blobs.

Well this will make flashing to AOKP42 a LOT easier than I had anticipated, thanks IMUcarmen and Yoinx.

My last question is about CWM -- do I need to flash to a new CWM in order to install AOKP42?

Pretty sure 6.0.1.1 is the latest. Whatever the pwnage tool flashes works fine.

Since I won't be using pwnage for any other reason following this method, can I just use it to flash the updated CWM? Or maybe I could just pull the CWM img out of pwnage and flash it manually (if I knew how).

You could do either. But you should just run pwnage to get the latest cwm and boot loader.

Are you sure about this? You're saying to run pwnage before I do anything else? I'm still on a ZV6 based ROM, so there's no bootloader to unlock.

Does pwnage copy a new bootloader to the phone?

Sorry I've been busy. I would recommend being on the latest cwm. You don't have to run the pwnage tool and I'm not sure about what yonix is saying so I can't speak on it.

The easiest way that I know how to get the latest cwm in your situation is to download the pwnage tool and pull the cwm file out of it and place it in the tool you use to flash cwm while you are on gingerbread. That will replace the version of cwm. Then just run that tool. I hope you follow me. I can't remember the name of the cwm file but I remember it being easy to identify

*Update*. The file you want to replace is the cwmrecovery.img. so take the one out of the pwnage tool and put it in the allinonepackage. Then run the all in one package again and you'll have that recovery

Also gps should work for you. Just make sure to give yourself the newest radios. I think the v8 ones just update the name but the actual radios are the same. So flash either.

GPS works with both official ROMs (AOKP and CM) regardless of your firmware.

I never took the ota on mine and GPS works great. I did flash the v7 baseband separately but that doesn't affect GPS.

Happens to me sometimes also. Reboot usually fixes it. I'd like to fix it though it's annoying.

Ditto. Happened to me last night as a matter of fact. Pulling the battery and restarting does the trick.

FWIW, I find I need to reboot my device every 2 days on aokp, otherwise it wonks out. That not a bad thing, but keep it in mind.
