Root AOSP / CM7.1 Messaging app ?

Has anyone tried using either the AOSP or CyanogenMod messaging app on this phone? I personally don't care for the bubbled look of the stock app.

It might be a good experiment. I have a nook color with CM 7.1 If you want I can post a copy of the apk if you want to try.

it wants to over ride my current mms app. how do I copy the stock one?

backed it up, but application not installed.

Use root explorer
copy /system/app/Mms.apk to your sdcard as a backup, pop the new one in there. set the correct permissions (you can see them in details on the original if you longpress it)

Then just overwrite it, and wait a little while or reboot.
don't try to actually install the apk.

I finally got around to trying this - didn't work...

And no, sorry guys, I'm not using GoSMS.

Just out of curiosity, did the new one show up in your app drawer or anything? From what I can tell, apk files seem to be mostly hardware independent as they run in the dalvik vm. It's like a java applet. If you didn't, it was most likely the permission weren't set to the same as the permissions that other apk's have inside that same folder.

It would launch, would even show the messages that were in the old messaging app, but then would force close when I tried to do ANYTHING.
