Root AOSP Keyboard Calibration/Replacement

I'm running the Xplode ROM (AOSP), but the keyboard is killing me. It's the stock AOSP keyboard, it's a little laggy at times (especially on forums even with haptic feedback off), and i have no way of calibrating it. I tried Swiftkey keyboard last night but it doesn't allow calibration either, and was significantly laggier than the stock AOSP. Is keyboard calibration something that just doesn't work with AOSP or do I need to try another keyboard?

Not sure for calibration but with swiftkey, did you try the rapid instead of precise? This may speed up typing

I installed Perfect Keyboard (there's a paid version which offers more features like theming etc) a day or so ago and found it an improvement over the AOSP offering in CM7.

There's also the Gingerbread KB which is similar to stock but with a few minor tweaks here and there.

You could try either of those.

Do either of those offer calibration the way Sense/HTC's keyboard does? I'm installing Perfect Keyboard now, gonna give it a whirl.

Yea, i did the rapid setting. Maybe i should've tried the precise setting and seen if it made a difference. Not sure if it's the cold weather or the McRib's return fattening up my thumbs, but my typing on the phone has gotten progressively worse and i can't take it any longer LOL

After having swiftkey for over a year, I barely use the keyboard anymore. The predictions for what I'm going to type are scary:D:eek: So, all of my information and data is stored on the sdcard so even when I flash a new rom, that data and predictions are still there. It does take awhile to build up the data but even the initial predictions are almost spot on so you may not even need to use the keyboard that often;)

GoKeyboard is pretty slick. I kept messing up with weird typos on it, and I couldn't figure out why. There's a sliding function on it similar to swype which is enabled by default. Once I turned that off it was a lot better. So you could try that out too. Lots of themes for it.
