Root APK Files

I assume that when I download a new app or update an existing app from the market, the APK file gets downloaded to my phone. Is that correct? If so, where can I find those files? I've been bitten with a few app updates that break the app and I would like to be able to back up the previous APK file in case I want to easily go back.

Any downloaded app from the market will have its apk stored in /data/app. Assuming you aren't using any type of apps2sd stuff

^^Whats dots said, also titanium backup is GREAT for restoring to previous versions.
