Root App draining internal storage?

sushifor5

Android Enthusiast
I'm hoping someone can explain this to me...

After I flashed my harmonia update and restored my apps and links, I had 85% phone internal storage available. Then I downloaded a new app (QVC) and linked it and used it, and internal space dropped to 80%. Also, none of my cache cleaners would clean that app...like it was invisible. Every time I used the app, storage drained more. I tried clearing its data and got a little space back, but couldn't figure out why the drain.

So, I uninstalled the app to see if that would give me the space back and I only got back to 82%. It just seems weird. Is there some way to clean things up that I don't know about? (probably, lol) do apps leave ghosts behind?

TIA!

Even though you deleted it the dalvik cache might have some in it.
You can delete it using a root file explorer, or QtADB.
If you wan't to try QtADB, what recovery do you have installed? You can have multiple recovery's on the SD card, so you can put the BobZohme Modified CWMod recovery (VM670NH_recovery.img) on the SD card. Go to the Terminal emulator on the phone and type in this:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/(whatever you renamed the recovery to on the sd card, exactly)

If you get a stream of almost identical looking code with a # at the end you have installed the recovery correctly.
Then Go here: New pre-packaged ADB installation This will work on Windows Vista and 7 and is fool roof with a 100% success rate.
Then go here: http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/517758-playing-qtadb.html#post4093175

Plug your phone into your PC and open up QtADB and click on the Android Guy.
On the right side make sure the long box at the top shows just a /. If your in the sd card directory just click the green up arrow.
Then double click on the data folder. Double click the dalvik-cache folder.
Find the file with the name of the app (sometimes the name is actually the developers/team name. Delete it if it hasn't been already. It's probably not going to much, but that should be everything you can do.
When done follow the steps to install the recovery and install the recovery you previously had installed.

IIRC she is using a Mac.
Duh! Ok sushifor5 you need to get a used PC with Windows XP or vista just to make doing things on the phone easy for you to do.Lol
Sorry I forgot about the Mac.
I do think that nijel had made a version of the QtADB fo the Mac. It's a pretty cool Utility that I've been relying on more and more. Also If you can find "Express Zip File Compression Software" for your Mac it will allow you to open up a ROM.zip with out extracting it and then delete/add things, all without having to resign the zip. This way if you want to move a few apps to the system or delete a few apps from the system you can do it before you install the zip. It seems to make things easier for me anyway.

MacFett: Once you have Link2SD set up, is it ok to wipe the cache partition and dalvik cache?

Simple answer, yes. Just remember, anytime you wipe the dalvik cache you need to relink it. Open link2sd hit the menu button, select more and then relink dalvik cache. After wiping, some of your apps may not show up or just have the default Android icon. This will correct itself after relinking and a reboot.

thanks everyone, i'm going to read this thru slowly again and figure out which course to take...i do have a mac and i break into a cold sweat anytime i even think about having to do any "code" work, LOL. i think anything i can do with the recovery on the phone that is easy would be my choice. i do have that bob zhome recovery, i think...will double check.

i did reboot but didn't gain anything.....

thanks for the inpput! will be back if i get stuck again.

OK, would the Link2sd cache clean ups do the same thing as going into my recovery and wiping caches there? I did the Link cleans and it didn't help.... Thanks for all the help, everyone!
