[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

I installed Groove IP today and love it. I'm having trouble getting it to ring when it is asleep, otherwise it seems perfect.Any idea how to get it to wake up when a call comes in?

Check your battery profile on the phone. It might be set to put your data into a power saving mode when the screen turns off. If that happens the app won't be able to receive calls when the screen is off.

Do calls come in when the screen is on?

If you like the app, please consider giving us a 5 star review on whichever market you purchased :)

If it "only signs in over WiFi", if you turn off WiFi doesn't it sign out, and therefore your regular 3G network/phone radio take over? If so, how would you miss a call? I'm jus trying to figure out how convenient this app is if I have to use WiFi from 6:00PM to say 11:00 PM every night (and want WiFi off during the day). Contact ringtones is not a big issue.

Haven't hooked into the contact specific ringtones yet. It's on the list of things to do.

By default the app will only sign in over WiFi. You have to check the "Allow 3G/4G Calling" checkbox to make it sign in over your phones data connection. The only issue is that you have to have calls forwarded to google chat and not your mobile number. So if the app is only running when you have wifi, if someone calls when the app is disconnected you'll miss the call.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you're trying to do. You want the app to connect only when you're connected over wifi? Or you want it to connect both on wifi or 3g? In your google voice account you have to set it to forward calls to google chat and not your mobile number. So if you're not signed in via the app, calls will go to voice mail.

I see. Only want WiFi, and only when I get home each night. Sounds like I have to manually switch GV to forward to GV# during day and Google chat at night. If I do that (or do it with tasker or Automateit), can I assume GrooveIP will do its thing on it's own?

Yes, you should be able to get things set up using tasker. We've had other people set up tasker profiles.

Yes it rings when not in power saving mode. I have checked all the settings I can think of but have not found anything that would change where it sends data.

Depends on the phone. Generally there's a battery profile you can choose that indicates when to turn off data. On my droid X it's in settings->battery & data manager. Then Battery mode and there are some default profiles or you can configure a custom profile.

I am getting "please try again" on every attempt to call out. My voice account is tied to a gmail account and as suggested a couple pages ago I tried dialing out from my pc and that worked ok. I have a Sprint HTC Evo and tried both WiFi and 3G. Any other suggestions?

It's not a phone, it is a Samsung Galaxy tab.

Everything I know about the problem is either here snrb Labs - FAQ

or in the in app help page.

great app. I've been wasting time doing research on how to get GV work with sipdroid and the hole nine yard on my aria (running CM7). then I found this app and haven't looked back since. I gave 5 stars. Great quality on Wifi and acceptable on 3G (depends on how good the data connection is). Haven't played around with all the settings yet. But so far so good.

Looking great. Anxious to play with it this weekend.

Given Verizon going to tiered data, does anyone have some info about how many kb/minute for a voip call?

Hi I have a Nook Color that I have converted rooted with cyanogen Mod 7 stable 7.0.3 (android 2.3) I have the app installed and configured with my google apps domain account and my google voice account. what I am trying to do is get Groove IP to make my B&N Nook into a phone via wifi. oh the nook has wifi and BT. I have the BT connected but I cannot get Groove IP to work with the Bluetooth, when I press blue tooth.

Try enabling incoming AND outgoing audio processing AND audio mode fallback. See if that helps at all. Not really sure what else.

I've bought this app primarily to use when traveling abroad, as I have unlimited voice and data with Sprint at home. Just spent a week in France and Groove worked well calling the US when connected to a strong wifi network. If the wifi signal was quite weak, it had problems. This is not the fault of the app; my HTC Evo has a fairly weak antenna compared to a laptop and needs a good signal to connect.

I appreciated being able to call my mobile number in the US and listen to my voicemail. I also used the app to call another person using the app in Europe, so we were both using it wifi to wifi. Again, it worked OK. The volume was noticeably attenuated, though still audible and sometimes there were noticeable lags, but the voice came though well enough, especially considering that the calls were free. In one hotel the wifi info said that VOIP was blocked. Nonetheless, Groove worked just fine.

I keep getting a message "GrooVe IP is not currently signed in to Google Voice....." I set up google voice as per instructions. I'm wondering if there is another username I was supposed to put in this app settings rather than gmail.com email. I don't know what is going on, but I can't call. Thanks in advance for your help.

Responded to your email.

I am currently in Europe and tried to call the US. The call went through and I heard the other party but they did not hear me. I checked the settings and tried again but again they could not hear me. I later called with Skype and had no problem. I am using a Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi only. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Which version of the Galaxy tab? Is it this one? Amazon.com: Samsung Galaxy Tab (Wi-Fi): Computer & Accessories

Do you have any task killers or battery managers running like Juice defender?

Can you add a feature that would automatically call certain numbers from the log (like with prefix +1 or based on contact name) using Groove ip and all other calls using the standard dialer. Basically the same feature as the exceptions filter in GV Callback, which I used before switching to groove. Thank you!

Yup, that's on our list of things to do.

I'm leaving for a trip to Costa Rica in a couple days, and this app would be perfect to make and receive calls from home and friends, since my hotel has wifi. What I'm worried about is... if I leave my phone on to receive calls over wifi, how do I make sure I don't get expensive regular calls and texts? I'm thinking Airplane Mode. Would that work? Is there a better way?

Thanks for the help. This looks like a great app, and will save me money, so well worth buying. Will more than pay for itself on the first call.

By the way, GREAT customer service, snrb! Amazing how much time you spend here responding to questions. How do you get any work done on the app?

addendum: actually it appears that airplane mode shuts off wifi. So now I really need some advice about how to do this. Thanks again!
