Hi Snrb,

Just tried Jitsi with both port 5222 and 80. It works for both. But, it can not connect to 443 as well. I was wondering whether port 80 could be used for help to tunnel all signaling and voice traffic. If it's possible, then, we can achieve same thing as port 443 to go around firewall with one minus of not having encryption.

Thanks
peng

Port 80 is generally for http traffic. The app is a xmpp client. In addition only signalling traffic is sent via tcp. Voice traffic is UDP and sent over a negotiated port. GrooVe IP uses UDP ports 19003 & 19004. We can likely make those ports configurable.

First of all, I love this app. It's terrific for those of us with limited voice calling.

Just wondering if there are any plans (or if it's possible) to add an option to enable our cell phone number to be shown as incoming call number on recipients' Caller ID instead of only being able to show our Google Voice number? I have friends who are getting confused by the number they're seeing, not knowing I have Google Voice (or even knowing what Google Voice is) and I really don't need anyone to know my calls are coming from anywhere but my home phone number (which I've had for 20 years and is now ported to my cell phone).

Thanks for all the great work.

Unfortunately that setting would have to be in Google Voice. Don't believe they have any option to show a different number as the caller id.

Version 1.2.9:
- Shrink tab sizes for smaller screens
- Work around for buttons not working on Galaxy S WiFi 5.0
- Add favorites tab
- Add audio menu to in-call screen

I have Groove IP on the LG Optimus V with Virgin Mobile. When I use the Wifi at home it works great but when I am out and about and use the 3g I have had a few persons say that there is static and they couldn't hear me or that they tried to call me and it wouldn't pick up. Has anyone else had these problems? I am assuming it is due to the strength of the 3g connection. Is there a way to access the numerical strength of the connection? I'm wondering about the possibility of determining how strong the 3g is and if it is below a threshold for good call quality to divert the call to my Virgin Mobile phone number. Is this theoretically possible?

Also, I'm probably a couple versions out of date on the Groove IP but don't think this would make a difference.

You could use Tasker and its %CELLSIG variable to do this. It worries me that your version isn't the most recent. I hope there is a good reason for that...

Hi,
Just purchased your app. Great work.
I can make calls OK, but nothing happens when I receive a call, it goes to my cell phone.
I read in here to do settings in Google voice to transfer to chat but I can not see an option for that in GV. Pls help.

Hi,

Take a look here Frequently Asked Questions | Groove IP Unlimited calls for free to any phone in the US or Canada | SNRB Labs If that doesn't help you'll have to contact the Google Voice support and tell them that you don't have a checkbox to forward calls to Google Chat.

ok got it to work now, but sound on other end is crackling and very low. Any suggestions?

Depends on the type of device and how you're connecting (wifi or mobile data). We have some tips in our faq that I linked above. Generally Keep Screen Alive or Audio Processing are the first steps.

HI SNRB,

Here's a few documents from Google you quoted from the other post and which is the base of your development.
XEP-0166: Jingle

It seems other transport method available, like TCP, Streaming, in stream, etc. I was wondering ,once all these implemented, it might be easy to get around strict corporate firewall like google's gmail does on a laptop. I have uploaded a gtalk.pcap from my laptop through corporate firewall, which is a working voice conversation.

Hope this helps for you to work out some solutions.

BTW, would it be nice if you can do it OpenSource style so that other people with skills can jump in working with you and you get money from donations? Just a thought, that might help develop this fast and leverage more resources..

tks
peng

Just wanted to let the developer know that the DTMF seems to work for me when I'm using my WIFI connection, but not when using 3G (Verizon). I tried muting without any difference in result. DTMF works fine when using my normal 3G calling. Thanks

If it works over WiFi but not 3G it's likely the dtmf is breaking up or being dropped by the network. How is the voice quality over 3G? Since everything is going over your data connection if there's latency or packet loss it will affect voice quality and also dtmf transmission.

Thanks.Audio processing is set. I am using wifi on an Acer Iconia A500 tablet, but incoming voice calls are very bad, crackling and low (@ Max volume, which does not seem to matter anyway)

Although I downloaded latest version , I can not see the in call audio.

Thanks for any help...

Don't use Audio Processing on a tablet. First try Keep Screen Alive. Then try increasing the mic buffer to xlarge. Then leave both of those settings at the new value and set Synchronize Voice. Could also try the WiFi tablet checkbox. Those would be the only settings I'd try on a tablet.

To get to the audio menu you have to press the menu button during the call. That will bring up the option to go to the audio settings.

Any hint on how long it will be before sms is integrated into this app? I'm using GrooveIP because 3g reception in non-existent inside the house, and setting up call forwarding etc to route calls to Google/GrooveIP only when the mobile number is unavailable... while trying to maintain things are seamless as possible. Having sms through this voip solution would complete this wonderful scheme!

obv by seemless I mean that to the outside world i have only the single mobile number for voice and sms. snrb mentioned a while back that they're working on sms integration - hopefully that means that sms can be forwarded from my mobile carrier through google to grooveIP when i'm in wifi mode...?

You'll have to use the Google Voice android app for SMS. The limitation isn't a technical one, we know how to connect to Google Voice SMS. But currently Google's terms of service don't allow it. Unless Google changes their TOS or we get permission from them we won't be able to add it into the app.

Hi snrb

V. 1.2.9
Virgin Mobile.
Wifi signal strength around -90 dBm

During In call - Is there a way to select GrooveIp or mobile network?

Thx

Once the call has been established you can't switch between GrooVe IP and the mobile network.

I've been using the app for a few weeks, and it's generally great. I have 2 questions however, which I suspect will actually be requests:

-Is there a way to show the dial pad automatically (by default) every time a call is connected? This is especially helpful when you're pressing 1 or 2 to answer or send to voice mail.

-Is there a way to only turn off the ringer sound as quickly as possible, without "ignoring" the incoming call, like the native dialer (LG Optimus V) does when pressing any of the volume keys? If I ignore, then the call just comes back through the native phone app, and if I ignore there, the voice mail goes to Virgin mobile's, not GV. This is the main reason I wanted to use the "press 1 or 2" option.

In the current version neither is possible. But I think those are enhancements we could make in a future version. I like the second suggestion.
