[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

That's cool. That lock isn't available on every device, we found on some devices the partial wake lock fixes the incoming calls not ringing right away issue. That's what the Advanced Wifi Lock app does. So added a new checkbox to get the partial wake lock.

Hi snrb

Optimus V. - Virgin Mobile.

Is it better to use 'Partial Wake lock' and 'Keep Screen On' in the latest version GvIP settings, rather than the Advanced Wifi lock app ?
Can running them both cause issues?
Thanks in advance

Observation: I have generally found GvIP does not function well on VM's spotty 3G network. The other end can rarely hear me, ending calls is always a problem, I can't get the dialer screen to stay visible.
Using Wifi is the only way :)
Cheers Z.

Running them both should not cause issues. Multiple apps can always get the same lock.

Over 3G call quality is going to depend on the data connection. I know a few people who use the app fine over VM's network. But it all depends on the speed and stability of the network where you are.

Hi snrb,

In the past amazon does not always show a notification of an update so the only way to get it is to uninstall the app and then re-install the app and then see if they have the new version available. Could you start posting somewhere if possible what version Amazon actually has available being they always seem to run so far behind on updates, not sure why they don't post it like the maket. Maybe thats what makes them feel better then the market, who knows.

Thanks,
Shuttle

If you go on Amazon's website they have the version number listed. Currently they still have 1.2.3.

Ditto. This is very disappointing. I can make free outgoing calls with GrooVe IP, but incoming calls use my minutes when Google Voice forwards to my T-Mobile number.

T-Mobile Pay as You Go prepaid (no data plan, only Wi-Fi)
LG Optimus T P509 (CyanogenMod 7.1)

If you have 1 separate GV# & 1 TMO # then you just need to have the GV Chat option in the web settings checked.
No other # options should be checked there or forwarded to GV.

This will allow you to make/Recv calls via GIP via Wifi.

Do I really need to explain that the reason I have calls forwarded to my phone is because I do not have Wi-Fi available at all times..? I want GrooVe IP to handle calls whenever I have Wi-Fi, and I want to use my T-Mobile minutes when I don't. If I had Wi-Fi available at all times, then why would I even need a mobile phone service?

As furkansahin said, the GrooVe IP call screen does appear... for a few milliseconds before the native call screen appears over it. So GrooVe IP is effectively useless for incoming calls.

Not sure what help I can provide. On all of our test phones when we're connected to WiFi, GrooVe IP rings first. Then the native system rings. 2 seconds later the GrooVe IP screen comes back on top. Do you see the GrooVe IP notification bar change to a phone icon instead of the green circle? It could be something is blocking or killing our activity on your phone.

If the app is still signed in and receiving the call, I could make a change where the screen will always try and come back on top if it's not being displayed.

Probably not the answer you're looking for, but you could solve this issue with Tasker and the Google Voice plugin. When your wifi is connected, route to your Google Chat. When wifi is disconnected, route to your phone.

I just called my mobile phone from a landline >15 times, and I'm basically getting three different results.

#1 (this is the only behavior that I had witnessed before today)
I can sometimes see the GrooVe IP call screen briefly appear, but the native call screen appears over it. The GrooVe IP icon remains a green circle; it does not change to a phone. My Phone shows that I have missed a call -- but not that I have missed a GrooVe IP call.

#2
The call screens switch back and forth a couple times, but the native call screen ends up on top. The Groove IP icon changes to a phone. Two instances of my ringtone play simultaneously. My phone indicates that I have missed a GrooVe IP call.

#3
I get the desired result -- the GrooVe IP call screen appears, and everything behaves pretty much as expected.

 I don't know why the behavior is inconsistent.

BTW, GrooVe IP crashes my phone during calls unless I tick the "keep screen on" option. But it seems to work fine when the screen is kept on.

OK, I may try that.

Just curious, which version of the app do you have?

I really don't appreciate your tone esp. when we are all trying to help you including me.

I think YOU are the one that is not understanding how to set & use this app.
So I am glad you are NOT getting results & the black cloud you live under.

I sure am getting what I need from this app. which is:

Free WiFi outgoing & incoming calls anytime, anywhere where WiFi available.
or Use my SPCS # when I don't want WiFi Calling. ha!

I'm sorry if I seemed ungrateful for your tremendously helpful advice to stop forwarding calls to my T-Mobile number, Sunshine. I guess I was "not understanding" that the way to use this app is to forward calls only to Google chat, give two phone numbers to everyone I know, tell people to call my T-Mobile number only when I don't answer my Google Voice number, and use two different numbers to check my voicemail. Is that how people do it underneath the rainbow in Overreaction Land?

This was an expensive lesson to learn. ~$200 in international roaming charges in 7 days out of 30 so far(@@!!).
Wow, I'm surprised that someone who is so much savvier than I am would make such a colossal mistake. If I was a petty, thin-skinned jerk, then I would probably say something like, "I am glad you did NOT get the results you wanted."

Groove IP Version 1.2.4
Google Voice #? Y
Google Talk Signed Out? Y
Google Voice # with "Gmail" Address Y

Issue:
GTalk and GVoice work on PC's behind Corporate firewall
GVoice works over WIFI on my Optimus V behind Corporate firewall
Groove IP works on Home Wifi and 3G.
Given that GTalk is working behind the corporate firewall, then why can't Groove IP sign in to Google Voice behind the corporate firewall?
Thanks

The app requires port 5222 open. It's likely that port is blocked by your corporate firewall. Gtalk can use port 443, we found we were not able to use that port, only port 5222 worked.

I have an HTC inspire 4g rooted. I can call out, sound quality is not an issue. When I receive a call i get the missed call notification and voice mail notification but will not ring first. I can send and receive text messages through Google voice still. Any thoughts?

Try the partial wake lock in the troubleshooting settings. That may help. Are you using WiFi? Have you forwarded calls to google chat in your google voice account?

I am on wifi with no phone service. I also forwarded calls to google chat, tried the partial wake lock. Still just notifications. I set up my google voice account with a different phone number than was originally used on the phone(using my gf's cell number in gv). Would that matter?

Does it work when the phone screen is on? Many phones put the wifi or cpu into a power saving mode when the screen turns off. HTC phones in particular put the Wifi into a power saving mode when the screen turns off.

Doesn't matter what number you used to setup, as long as calls are forwarded to google chat

Phone screen is on. I disabled power saver in settings. It was going straight to voice mail, now it rings for 30 seconds then to voice mail.

The phone itself is set up with a different gmail account than the one I use for gv but I am logged onto groove with the correct one.

Being new here not sure what the rules might be on a post bump, so please be gentle...
Ran over the last few pages and haven't seen this mentioned...

When I'm using this on wifi and get a text message, it disconnects my call. If it matters, I'm on a Nexus One on TMobile.

Anyone else had this issue? Am I doing something wrong?

Have you ever had your account linked to a sip service like pbxes.org? Could be calls are still going there. If you log in on a pc do you get the call in gmail?
