[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

Unfortunately since the call is originated from Google Voice we can't control where the call goes. You can try the beta version on our Facebook page to see if the GrooVe IP incoming call screen stays on top more consistently.

Thank you, now my chances are much better than before, I'd say 80% of the time it's on top. Still hoping for more integration if all possible, but this will work!

Version 1.2.10

- Fix Korean Galaxy S WiFi
- Add inclusion and exclusion regex setting
- Ensure correct layout is used for in-call screen
- Support Gtalk invisibility
- Allow mic source configuration to take advantage of VoIP mic in Honeycomb
- Add option to ignore weekends in start/stop time setting
- Improve voice cut-off on call connect
- Bug fixes

Under Advanced Settings/Troubleshoting. Override STUN Server.
If enabled then the default STUN Server (stun.sipgate.net:10000) will not be used. The STUN Server configured below will be used instead.

That to me makes it sound like that either the sipgate's STUN Server or some other user configured STUN server will always be used.

If you don't want a STUN server being used then enable Override STUN Server and configure the stun server to blank/nothing.

Can you shed a little light on the significance of this setting? What are the advantages/disadvantages of using the default STUN server, or not using a STUN server at all?

Thanks!

STUN servers are used to determine your public facing IP. If your device is not behind a router and has a public IP then you won't need any STUN server look up. There's really no harm in leaving it though. Basically the app sends a message to the STUN server to look up your public IP and then uses that IP.

snrb. what steps should I follow to troubleshoot massive delay problems? Lately when using grooveIP from my home wifi network, the incoming voice is nice and real-time, but my outgoing voice is delayed anywhere from a few seconds to 20 seconds.

I'd do the following

1) Restart the router
2) Enable Keep Screen Alive in the GrooVe IP troubleshooting settings
3) Temporarily disable any battery manager or task killer apps to make sure they aren't causing the issue

There are some more tips available here http://snrblabs.com/snrb/Apps/GrooveIP/FAQ.aspx#5 in case that doesn't help

I have an Acer Iconia A500, I just down loaded the Groove IP at my house and I tested it and it work from my house WIFI. When I went to login using a different free WIFI network GrooveIP will no longer allow me to login. But my Google Voice seems to still be working fine and will still allow me to send and receive texts. Is there any advice outthere?

GrooVe IP uses different ports than the Google Voice app. GrooVe IP logs in through Google Talk, it could be the free WiFi is blocking either talk.google.com or port 5222

This is probably what is happening. My work wifi blocks talk.google.com and I cannot login to GrooVe IP when connected to it, but Google Voice works fine.

Hi, bonafide cheapskate here, and noob. I plan on getting a cheap, used Android phone from ebay and use GV and Groove IP, and my home wi-fi to make/receive calls. I'm confident that will all work out.

What I want to know is what happens when I take my phone with me? I mean, I know I can get somewhere and find another free wifi hotspot, but what about en route? My "local" pub is within walking distance, but it's not right down the street either, so if I initiated a call and started walking, would my call get dropped until I logged on to another wifi? Do I need to log on? (like I said, noob, I've only ever used my home wifi for anything.) What about a car trip? Can my wife sit there and surf the web seamlessly as we pass through different wifi networks (as long as there's always at least one available), or is our connection only as good as our current wifi connection. I'm probably being redundant here, but what about incoming calls? Would I need to log on to a network specifically as I drive around, or would the calls find my phone? I suppose I could have just asked how portable is this system? Thanks.

The developer (snrb) would be able to give a definitive answer. I would assume that if you tried to walk down the street while making a wifi call with GrooVe IP, as soon as you lose connection to the wifi your call will be dropped. There would be no "seamless" call while walking to a different wifi network. Wifi would disconnect, GrooVe IP would be logged out of Google Chat, then your phone would have to reconnect to another wifi network and GrooVe IP would sign back in. You would have to call the person back after connecting to the new wifi network.

For web surfing, this would be a little more seamless. The web page would stay open, but you would see some periods of network interruption when you are "in between" wifi networks.

This is correct. If you lost your data connection the call would drop and the app would be signed out.

Here is one for you...the talk feature on google chat on my laptop allows me to make calls from the wifi network I am connected to (from what I understand chat uses talk.google.com)....however, GrooVe IP says it cannot connect with talk.google.com.

Any ideas.....cool app btw, I paid 4.99 for it today and I think it is worth it.

That's interesting. I just successfully made a call from "Call Phone" in Gmail on the same network that doesn't allow GrooVe IP to sign in. I was under the impression that they both just logged in through talk.google.com, any ideas snrb? There is obviously something keeping GrooVe from signing in.

The ports are different. We've only been able to successfully sign in on TCP port 5222. But Google Talk also supports UDP port 443. As yet we haven't been able to successfully sign in using that UDP port.

Groove IP has been working good on my Samsung gio since August until last couple of days! Groove IP has to be signed in everytime I starting using the phone. Now often enough coming up with a message " failed to sign in google voice, unknown" One time it says "can not open port 5222" or something. Internet connection is there, no problem for browsing, or open Gmail. My Samsung Gio is rooted and 2xbattery, Fast Boot, Android booster are installed. Any idea?

It could be possible that your network administrator is blocking traffic on port 5222. Are you on a home or work network?

I am at home. I just bought a brand new double band router directly from my internet provider 2 weeks ago (D-link). Anything to do with the new router? My old router(also D-link) need to be reset every single day! Thanks for the reply

A brand new router with a default configuration should not be causing that. Try rebooting your phone, the router, and the modem. Once everything is back up if you are still having trouble, try reinstalling GrooVe IP on your phone.

Whatever I am trying, the problem still there! I have moved GV back to phone from SD card, and set GV on start up. GV turned red after screen turns off for few minutes and it's very hard to sign GV in again. It might start or failed to sign in for unknown reason. How to re-install Groove IP? Do I have to pay again?
