[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

Whatever I am trying, the problem still there! I have moved GV back to phone from SD card, and set GV on start up. GV turned red after screen turns off for few minutes and it's very hard to sign GV in again. It might start or failed to sign in for unknown reason. How to re-install Groove IP? Do I have to pay again?

Hi,

What kind of device do you have? Most HTC devices have a bug in the WiFi driver that puts the WiFi into a power saving state when the screen turns off. This would cause the app to sign out. If you have a different type of device, check the battery or power profile. There are usually settings to keep data/wifi on all the time. You can also try the Partial Wake lock and/or High Perf Wifi Lock in the GrooVe IP troubleshooting settings. I'd also recommend grabbing the beta from our facebook page (or waiting because we'll likely post the update tomorrow). It fixes some sign in issues people experienced with 1.2.10.

You can always redownload your paid apps. This link has more info if you purchased from the android market

Thanks snrb for looking at my problem with my Samsung Gio S5660. This unit has been working without any issue since I bought it in August 2011. I have tried almost all features in trouble-shooting of Groove IP, on top of the issues have been previously mentioned, now voice becomes cracking, stuttering, echo...in both sides, transmission and reception. As I mentioned before, I just bought a new router (double band) from my internet provider. I don't know if those issues have anything to do with my new router? Worth to mention that I have un-installed Groove IP and then restored it from the Titanium back up copy, but still no luck! I will be waiting for new update from GV, hopefully will solve all the above issues.

We just posted 1.2.11. I'd recommend uninstalling the backup copy and installing 1.2.11. I'm not sure which options you've tried or in what combination. I'd suggest using Keep Screen Alive. If that doesn't help then Audio Processing. If still nothing then increase the mic buffer to x-large. After that try Audio Processing & Audio Mode Fallback together. Finally try Synchronize Voice.

Just posted version 1.2.11. Only fixes some sign in issues introduced in 1.2.10
Thank you snrb. I just did the update. I'll play with it and will post the result. I didn't uninstall the back up copy, just did the update. If things are getting better, I will leave it, if not I will uninstall and install new version.

After the update last night, GV stays signed in overnight:). I think voice is improving as well. Thank you so much snrb.

I was really excited about this app as it allowed me to try a new phone/monthly plan. I went with the T-Mobile monthly 4g plan on a Samsung Exhibit ii. The one downside to the plan is that it only has 100 talk minutes a month and I feel let down by this app so far.

The plan was to use Groove IP to augment but so far it is absolutely unusable. I think I've set mic/speaker setting to an adequate degree but whenever I make or receive calls using WiFi, Groove IP just doesn't work for me. I can always hear other people but they can never hear me. The connection seems like it is strong enough with 25-70 ping and 1-10mbps.

I've read the FAQ and tried all advice given so far. Anyone have other advice because if this doesn't work I really won't be able to use the plan anymore.

Hi,
I have been using Groove IP for about a week now.
So far everything works as advertized (thanks for this great app!), except for one thing.
When I open the Groove IP dialer and go to the contact list, it only shows some of my phone contact.
Maybe half of the contacts show, but the other half does not show.
As far as I understand, Groove IP simply uses the phone contact and I don't need to do any setup for sync between two contact lists, right?
I searched this forum and on the web, but couldn't find what is wrong.
Any ideas?
If it matters, I have atrix 2 on AT&T.

Hi,

Do you have the Keep Screen Alive checkbox enabled? Also, what version of the app are you running? Just to make sure it's not an install issue try uninstalling the app, restarting the device, then reinstalling the app from the market. If none of that helps please email me at snrb.labs@gmail.com and I'll try and help you get things working. With the upcoming holiday I'll be checking email more regularly than I'll be checking the forums.

GrooVe IP just queries the device contacts database. Do all of the contacts show up in the contacts app?

Try checking Synchronize Voice in troubleshooting. I read somewhere that it is supposed to fix outgoing voice.

Version 1.2.12
- Fixes an issue that was causing random calls to have no audio on a few devices.

snrb:

Just an observation: With the last two updates (just got the latest today from Android Market) after the update is complete, Groove closes itself without any indication. (NOT force close, it just disappears and is not in the running services) I'm guessing that it's supposed to restart, so the shutdown is normal, but it never actually restarts.

And I do have it set to auto-start. This is on a HTC G2 bone-stock running 2.34. As it is, I can't leave Groove on auto-update, because whenever it updates, that would lead to it no longer running unbeknownst to me and subsequent missed calls.

P.S. Any chance of integrating Groove with a caller-ID app like Adaffix?

P.P.S. If anybody out there is using Groove on a HTC G2 (aka HTC Vision, aka HTC Desire Z) I'd be interesting in what all your settings are.

Android market handles the update, not really much I can do about it not starting automatically after an update.

Not sure about the caller-id apps. Would think changes would have to be made on our end and the other app developer end.

I've always hoped to make most voice calls over mobile data. Previous Groove IP experience on Virgin Mobile / Optimus V's slow 3G (300-600kb in Chicago) was unsuccessful, and I started testing 11/23 market version app on T-Mobile 4G / Samsung Exhibit II since yesterday. Data speed 1-3mb down and 1-2mb up, but call quality was very poor most of the time:

- frequently breaking voice, the first 10 seconds especially bad
- I hear my end very clearly, but the other end often get very weak voice or deafening backgroud noice, independent of mic gain
- echo was mostly fixed with default echo detection

My settings: Echo cancellation (checked) Post processing (checked) Echo tail (tried 100-300, 200-400 and settled with auto) Microphone gain (tried -2, 1, and 4) Keep screen on (checked) Audio processing (checked) Mic buffer (large)

What should I try next to fix call quality? As is Groove IP is unuseable for me, while Skype is very consistent and clear on the same device. Help please? Thank you very much in advance!

First of all, thanks to the devs for keeping in touch with their userbase.

I registered for this forum because for the past two days or so ever since I went back home for Thanksgiving, GrooVeIP "hangs" when making outgoing calls. What that means is that I will appear to be dialing, there are no dialing sounds and no indication the call was made.

Physically turning off and on the phone appears to fix this temporarily, but the problem soon comes back.

The fact that it just happened in the past few days makes me suspect it's something with my router, but I'm not sure what I should be checking.

I'd make sure you're using version 1.2.12 of the app. Does the app stay at dialing? Only thing I can suggest is try it on a different network to see if the same issue happens.

Yes, it's at the latest verison, 1.2.12. The app stays at dialing...it hangs at the "Calling..." screen. I won't be able to test another network until Tuesday. Is there a way to determine through logs which calls were made/received via GrooVeIP vs. mobile network?

Calls made/receive via GrooVe IP will show up in the GrooVe IP recent calls tab.

I apologize if this has been answered before however I wasn't able to find any guidance, in addition I realize this is actually a Google Talk "problem" but figured someone here would have some insight. My issue is when I'm signed into Groove it shows my message I set "Signed in for VOIP Only". If I then login with Pidgin or say the Web Site (into Google Talk) regardless of my status there my account to other people still only shows the Groove status I have set.

Is there anyway I can override or force Google Talk to use the status I'm setting in Pidgin or the web client or wherever else I'm signed in? Thanks much for any input or direction, great app keep up the good work!

In the GrooVe IP miscellaneous settings you can change the message GrooVe IP logs in with. You can also set it to invisible, but that will make your other sign in's invisible too. Realize that isn't quite answering your question but that's all the info I have.

Thanks for your quick response, ya it is bizarre how the Google Talk clients decide which status to display for a given account, it is a mystery to me and I can't seem to find much online about it. Oh well worst case scenario I could make a "Google Voice Only" account which would never be used for Chat and it would alleviate the issue all together. Thanks again!

This is a great App, i use on Nexus works great. I would like to use the app on android x86 can you please generate the x86 NDK lib as well, and select to support x86 in the android market.

As you know, the NDK lets you generate multiple architectures (arm5, arm7, x86) and package the APK with all arch supported. thanks.

Ya, that should be easy enough. We've been meaning to do that for a while.

I would like to use GrooveIP on my Android phone, but...

I already have a Obi110 that I use with classic POTS phones in our home to provide transparent phone calls via an existing Google Voice account.

I wanted to try GrooveIP without purchase or a reasonable return privilege, because I understand that GrooveIP and the OBi110 I already have will compete for a single Google Chat login on the Google Voice account making both systems unreliable.

I've searched around the net and cannot confirm if this is true or false. It is in these situations that I long for the Android Markets previous 24 hour return policy for paid apps. The current 15 minute one does not provide enough time to check this issue properly.

So can anyone who is actively both using an OBi110 (or OBi100) device AND is also using GrooveIP with Google Voice confirm that both work and play well together?

Thank you in advance.
