[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

I ended up using Tasker with the "Locale Google Voice Set" plugin. For both it was about 10 dollars total. When I'm connected via wifi, I have it turn off all my forwarding numbers except google chat. When wifi is not connected, it enables all my forwarding phones.

There could be times that it doesn't update like I want (like if I disable wifi in an area that does not have data), but those will be rare occasions.

Thanks for the help.

I've always hoped to make most voice calls over mobile data. Previous Groove IP experience on Virgin Mobile / Optimus V's slow 3G (300-600kb in Chicago) was unsuccessful, and I started testing 11/23 market version app on T-Mobile 4G / Samsung Exhibit II since yesterday. Data speed 1-3mb down and 1-2mb up, but call quality was very poor most of the time:

- frequently breaking voice, the first 10 seconds especially bad
- I hear my end very clearly, but the other end often get very weak voice or deafening backgroud noice, independent of mic gain
- echo was mostly fixed with default echo detection

My settings: Echo cancellation (checked) Post processing (checked) Echo tail (tried 100-300, 200-400 and settled with auto) Microphone gain (tried -2, 1, and 4) Keep screen on (checked) Audio processing (checked) Mic buffer (large)

What should I try next to fix call quality? As is Groove IP is unuseable for me, while Skype is very consistent and clear on the same device. Help please? Thank you very much in advance!

Anyone got it working consistently on T-Mobile 4G network in the city of Chicago? Call quality is very poor with Samsung Exhibit 2 on 4G, but 90% fine on extremely strong wifi (still breaking badly for some calls on the other end).

Before I shell out for a more expensive device, is there any success story in Chicago?

My GV is installed and running, but when open my apps in market, it's listed as "not installed" together with Fast Boot Pro on my Samsung Gio. Could anybody tell me why?

Hi,
I just purchased Groove IP app for android from Amazon store. However I have a problem of successfully using it. When I dial a number with Groove IP, other phone rings and when I answer the call gets connected. However, after few seconds, call get disconnected from Groove IP side. Same thing happens with received calls. After call get disconnected, Groove IP icon turns red and then I see the login window of Groove IP for google login. In both situations, other phone does not get disconnected and I see the call progresses. This happens for both Wifi as well as 3G connections for Groove IP. Could you please help me trouble shooting this problem. I use a Sanyo zio phone in Sprint network and have android 2.2.

I responded to the email you sent us. Probably easier to troubleshoot over email.

Thanks a lot. I managed to get Groove IP working in my phone, Sanyo Zio with Platinumtel service. For benefit of other users of Groove IP I wanted to mention here the settings I have in my phone that worked for me (I think these have been mentioned earlier also).
Original Problem: Groove IP get auto logout as soon as call get connected (for both received and dialed)
Solutions: Following settings solved the problem
1. Keep Screen On
2. Audio Processing On
3. Synchronize Voice On

Apart from the difficulties of getting it to work at the beginning, Groove IP have been working fine. I think this is a must have application, specially if you have a pay as you go plan. Quite satisfied

I"m gonna put down some of my thoughts here, nothing to praise/complain about but I'm sorta in the middle still...

I've only been testing on 3g so far with an Optimus V. I will be able to try with wifi this weekend. Getting a new google voice number was simple, forwarding to my cell and chat. However, on any incoming calls, it would use my mobile minutes as if groove wasn't working on calls. Then after a hangup/call end, groove would connect again. I made a dummy google account with yet another new google voice number and forwarded that to the google chat and not cell. This seems to have fixed the problem. However, there is like a 1 sec delay between the phones. This probably comes from a weak 3g signal in a building as I was testing.

The only thing that concerns me is the numbers and what to do for sms/mms. I like giving people 1 number to use and not have them keep track of this one to call, this one to text, and so on... I found forwarding text to email in the google settings, but that's it. If I am thinking right, to use grooveip, others MUST call the google number. But to use my normal sms stuff, they MUST use my real mobile number? If they call my mobile number it won't use grooveip?

I'm still fiddling/testing with groove, but seems ok so far.

Hello hope you can help. I downloaded Groove IP last night...what an app :)! However it seems that when I disable Wifi and just use 3g/4g I receive an error message stating "The username and password you entered is incorrect". The moment I enable Wifi and use Wifi it reconnects and works again. I do have Allow 3g/4g calling enabled from the settings menu, and I did try rebooting.

Also was able to make google chat voice calls or 3g/4g. Seems weird why GrooveIP seems to think there is an invalid username/password when I switch to 3g/4g. Hope you guys can help!!!

GrooVe IP can only use your Google Voice number. So they would have to call that phone number. You can use the Google Voice android app to send/receive text messages.

The error is returned from Google's servers (we don't have any way to validate your username/password). The only thing I can think of is something was messed up on install, it happens sometimes. You can try uninstalling the app, restarting the device then downloading/installing the app.

I have no cell or data service on my new droid Bionic because I can't afford to pay for it. I do have wifi near me most of the time. I'm trying to get the droid set up with free wifi calling and free texting. I'd love to hear suggestions and recommendations. I did this before on my old droid and it worked fine, but the new one is having issues and I'm not knowledgeable enough to figure it out.

I have two DID numbers through IpKall
I have a gmail account and google voice, google talk, google voice callback
I have a pbxes and a callcentric account
I have tried many sip phones such as sipdroid, csipsimple, 3CXphone, MizuDroid, Media5fone, Viber, and probably a few others.

I still can't get it to work quite right and I don't know where the problem lies. Is it with callcentric or the voip phone or my bionic? I am considering the purchase of Groove IP. My question is that if many of these other programs are not working, then how do I know if Groove will solve my issues..... and it costs money to find out!

The problem I had once I got a successful registration is that I can call out just fine and I can hear the other person perfectly. They cannot hear me! I've experimented a bunch and it's not being muted, there is still call volume, and if I scream loud enough, they can hear me a teeny bit. Mostly I call and they keep saying, "hello, hello, is anybody there?" And then they hang up. I can't find a mic boost setting on the droid, but that might not be the problem.

I really need a reliable solution for inbound and outbound free calls to my droid with no service because I am about to lose my cell service on my old phone due to divorce and will have to get a really cheap pay-per-minute plan. :( I've already disconnected my home phone and I just moved, so I need to make lots of calls. Google chat phone service works great on my home computer and I use it for most of my outbound calls!

Will Groove IP work on my droid even though I am having one-sided audio issues with many of the other configurations?

Thanks so much to everyone! This forum is amazing!!!

I'm not about to give you any kind of a guarantee that GrooveIP will do everything you want, but I'll tell you my personal experience -

I was able to get sipdroid working my android phone with the free PBX account, but it was pretty unreliable. Voice quality was spotty and calls often got disconnected.

I decided to pony up the $5 and try grooveip mainly because of the support I saw on this forum.. wow what a difference. Now I feel confident in my decision to get a low-minute plan and make up for it by always using grooveip to call out.. whether on 3G/4G or wifi. It's that good for me anyway. Voice quality is far superior to standard mobile calls.

The difference is grooveip connects directly to google's chat servers - it's NOT a sip solution like sipdroid.

I'll give you a 24hr refund period. If it doesn't work email us at snrb.labs@gmail.com and we'll cancel your order.

Ok. I bought it and got Groove IP set up. It seems to work very well so far on the one call. Yay! So this seems to have solved my calling issues. :-)

The problem I am having now is trying to get notifications to come through when I use Google Voice for texting. I have all the settings set to beep, vibrate, blink, etc but IT DOESN'T WORK. I tried forwarding incoming texts to email and that works but it's a pain. I tried forwarding to my DID ipkall number and that does not work.

Are there any apps that do push notifications for Google Voice SMS?

If I could get that working then life would be perfect and I can feel better about losing my other cell service on my regular cell phone. (I can't switch my service to my droid because then I would have to pay for data and ex-hubby is kicking me off our old plan.)

Can't wait to hear what others have done to get notified of incoming texts using Google Voice.

Thanks so much for the help!

Additional issues..... needing more help!

I have a Facebook account and I synced it with my device. All of my FB contacts are showing up in the native voice dialer, but when I click to call one of them, it tries to use Google voice callback & CSipSimple which doesn't work. I messed with the settings in Groove and have told it to always use Groove to make calls with the native dialer (and I tried the other settings too), but Groove doesn't show up as an option when I click to try to make a call.

None of my Facebook contacts show up in the Groove contact list. How can I make them appear so that I can call them?

How do I make the native phone dialer work using Groove?

Why am I having issues that seem like no-brainers? I'm using a Bionic with 2.3.4

Thanks Again for help!

I can't really help with the Google Voice app. I know on my phone I checked a checkbox to only receive texts in the Google Voice app. That allowed me to set notifications. So now I see voicemail and text notifications.

The GrooVe IP contact list will only show your device contacts. The app just queries the device contacts database. You can dial from the native dialer, click the contact and call as if you had no other app installed, if you have it set to always use GrooVe IP when the call is made from the native dialer GrooVe IP will intercept it.

Version 1.2.13:

- Fix the Allow 3G/4G calling checkbox on the Galaxy Nexus.
- Improve the dialer screen for small screens.
- Make the auto answer time configurable. (Time before app sends a '1' after you pick up an incoming call)

It appears the GrooVeIP icon has been revamped with the 1.2.13 update as well. :)

So I just got a galaxy player 5, which I plan on replacing my iPod touch with. I was able to use talkatone with my gv account on ios to great success. Looking for something similar on Android and it looks like this is my best option. I tried this, and after playing with some settings was able to make it work, but there was a massive delay that I couldn't fix. Also had to have the mic on the highest pickup setting, not sure if that helps. If we could get a good set up for this device, I think it may start replacing home phones :D

Thanks so much to the devs' unprecedented customer support. Keep up the good work!

Ps- just realized that I still have talkatone and gv plugin running on my iPod. Could this cause the delay?

I'd suggest trying the Keep Screen Alive checkbox. It could be that the device is putting the WiFi into a power saving state.

Would also suggest a clean install, uninstall the app, restart the device then install the app.
