[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

Incoming calls aren't coming in through groove IP on my MT4G. Everything else is working fine.

Sorry I could not sift through the last 15 pages of posts to see if the answer is here... but if anybody knows what the issue is and can let me know i'd greatly appreciate it!

Perhaps the phone has put the WiFi subsystem asleep and isn't catching the incoming call. Can you receive calls using the Google Chat client in Gmail? Have you tried calling when the phone is "awake" with the screen turned on, or with the Keep Screen Alive and all lock options (Troubleshooting menu) in GrooVe IP asserted?

I'm trying to receive the call over the HSPA+ network right now, i don't have access to wifi at the moment. Outgoing calls are working fine.

I tried to call the phone with the screen on and groove IP app open so i don't think the options in troubleshooting menu would resolve it considering that.

And actually it just started working but i think i'm having a different issue now... I see the groove ip screen come up first with the custom ring tone i've used, then it gets overridden by the android incoming call screen.

I currently have my GV number forwarded to both my voice and gtalk as this is the only thing that makes sense since i may not always have adequate data signal to get the incoming call over VOIP.

But i can see why the native phone app is overriding Groove IP, since it's a phone call and groove IP is just an app as far as the phone is concerned...

Is there any work around to this?

Only way to work around it would be to change your forwarding settings. GrooVe IP does try to come back on top, but some manufacturers restrict apps from showing on top of the native call screens.

Thanks. yes i do see it trying to go back over the native incoming call screen and i just need to answer at the right time as it seems to switch between the two.

I am noticing that incoming calls are still spotty, particularly on 3G/HSPA+. Groove IP does not always pick them up.

Great app but i'm having a small issue with ignoring calls.

Say I get an incoming call (to my actual phone #, not google voice) and I want to ignore this number or can't pick up the phone right now. Well, as soon as I slide to ignore the call, the GrooVe IP dialer instantly pops up and shows that I'm receiving another incoming call from the same person/number and gives me the option to answer or ignore the call again.

In the GrooVe IP settings, I configured it to only use the mobile network when using the native dialer, and I also set it to not notify me if GrooVe IP is signed out or not running when I'm using the native dialer.

In my Google Voice settings, I have Google Chat enabled/checked. Forward calls to my Mobile Number is unchecked. Receive text messages on this phone is checked. Under show advanced settings, I have it set to always ring on weekdays and weekends, and to go straight to voicemail for Forwarding Options. In Settings >> Calls, call screening is set to off.

Phone I'm using is Sprint Epic Touch 4G with the latest stock gingerbread rom.

I can't figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. I just want it so that when someone calls my real phone number, and I don't pick up, or I ignore the call, then the call will end. Right now, if somebody calls my real # and I don't pick up, immediately after the call is ended, the phone starts ringing from the same number from the GrooVeIP dialer.

You're using Google Voice for your Voice mail. What happens when you ignore the call to your regular cell it sends the call to your Google Voice number which causes GrooVe IP to ring.

Hmm I see, that makes sense to me now. Do you know of any workarounds to this? Perhaps setting one google voice account for my voice mail, and use a different google account for GrooVe IP to make calls? Not sure if that would be possible.

Don't know of any work around other than not using Google Voice voicemail. Does your carrier not supply voice mail?

Hi Snrb,

I am using samsung exhibit 2 4G with Tmobile 30$ plan. Installed GrooveIP, works great except the echo problem.

Person on other end hears echo of himself all the time. I have tried MIC gain between -2 to -5 but no luck. I currently have it as -3. setting Echo cancellation with post processing and echo tail to autodetect did little to help. with that setting, voice was more radio like and background interruptions

any suggestion?

Couple of suggestions. I'd try the manual echo tail size options to see if one of them works better. The auto detect may not work if the mic gain is too low. If none of the manual settings work the only option would be reducing both the mic gain and speaker volume. It'll be a combination of both. You may have to reduce the mic gain a lot, I know on some phones people have set it as low as -13...but don't know at what level the voice will get too quiet.

Can also try Audio Processing with and without Audio Mode fallback to see if they help.

Version 1.2.14
- Bug Fixes
- Change auto selected mic for ICS to android default
- Fix bug with bluetooth handset not disconnected when call is ended
- Change default settings for LG Enlighten
- App should display dialer instead of settings on first load
- Allow higher speaker volume settings (previously the speaker volume in audio/echo had a max of 10, it is now 30)
- Redirect help button to snrb Labs website instead of text help

With this update I get static. Messed around with various settings. Static won't go away. Any procedure I should follow?

Are you using an LG Enlighten or using ICS? The only settings changed in the app were related to phones running ICS and the LG Enlighten. On ICS the mic source was changed to Android Default instead of VoIP

Same phone and plan here and it did echo bad on the other end with default settings. Nothing worked until I tweaked mic gain on the fly. -9 ended up being just right. Hope it works for you.

@dev thanks for the awesome app.

Hi snrb,

Quick question, is it possible to have a option to set (send) your cell number instead of google number when you call out?

Thanks

Sorry, not possible. Google Voice actually makes the call and they set the caller id. Don't believe they have any option to change the caller id they display

Thanks for the information. If anyone can confirm that -9 works for the Exhibit II I'll update the default settings for that phone.

I am using Samsung Galaxy Ace and -9 is just fine.

The only problem I have is delay for 2-3 seconds on 3G+, is there any setting can fix this?

Hey thanks for possibly integrating this. Apparently when I was tweaking for -9 the person I was working with didn't understand what I was trying to do and to top it off she has very sensitive hearing. I have found that somewhere in the range of -5 to -3 is where it becomes easier to hear my voice with faint to no echo. -9 was a little too low and the voice became choppy when I handed my phone to the other party and listened on the other end. I think -4 would be a safer bet than -9 for future versions.

Hello I have two questions:

1. I have GNexus with ICS. I see that you sent out an update (1.2.14) that sets the default mic source to Android Default. Mine is still set to Auto. I've done a reboot and no change. Should I manually change it to Android Default? And why didn't it change it for me if it was supposed to? Should I uninstall and re-install?

2. There are some phone numbers that Groove IP doesn't work with. I"ll call and get connected, but I hear nothing. I can see that the call is connected but nothing ever comes across. Also there are times where the auto attendant will say press 1,2,3, ect... for certain options and when I press the number the auto attendant doesn't recognize that I pressed anything. It just keep on talking away. I am experiencing this with some numbers that have an auto attendant. When I disable Groove IP or tell Google Voice to route my call through mobile network instead of Groove IP the issues goes away. So I'm thinking it's some sort of Groove IP issue.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

We changed what Auto maps to. On the Galaxy Nexus Auto now maps to Android Default instead of VoIP.

To GrooVe IP all numbers are the same, it just sends the number to Google Voice to make the call. So not sure why some numbers would behave different than others. For the auto-attendant, try pressing mute before dialing the digits. Mute will block any voice or background noise but won't mute the digits. It could be something is distorting the digits.

Hi... just bought 2 copies of your groove IP for use on mine and my wife's phone.

I have a couple of questions:

1) right now... the app is not self-starting after reboot on either phone... even though I have checked that option in the settings. Neither phone has apps2SD installed...

2) What happens in this case? If I am in an area where there is no DATA service but there is voice service from my wireless provider... when someone calls my google voice number (that is forwarded to my cell phone)... what will happen? Will it go straight to voicemail OR is it smart enough to know I don't have data service and redirect that call via voice signal?

Ok to followup. Mark this as solved. HTC Incredible CM7.1. This is real silly but I turned down the Speaker Volume to 3. Turned off the all the Echo & Trouble Shooting Settings. Now it works 100x better. Very little choppiness, I'll look at that later. Thrilled again with this app. Weird though I thought with maximum Speaker Volume of 40. That if I set it at 18-20 that'd be good. No I had to set it all the way down to 3. Yowsers!

Edit: Turned down further to 0. And choppiness is almost gone.
