[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

First, great app! I have it running fine on my Exhibit II 4g over all connections I use (wifi and 4G) in the Maryland area. Not perfect audio but acceptable (speaker and microphone gain both set to -5).

What I would LOVE to see is a texting component! Or possibly the ability to forward texts to another app (Handcent?) and then intercept the texts sent from that app and send them over the Google voice line.

Thanks!

P.S. I contacted you via email about a conflict with an app called Waze; however the issue appears to be fully resolved after a reboot.

Thanks for the update on Waze. Texting unfortunately would violate the Google Voice terms of service. It's something we know how to do technically but don't want to take the risk of violating Google's TOS. You can use the Google Voice app to text though.

I am seeing incredible battery drain on my two phones since I loaded Groove IP. One is an HTC Sensation where the battery would last all day long and still have 30% left at the end of the day... NOW is down to 50% power in a few hours!!! ...and all this without even using the phone!

Any thoughts?

well... there is no wifi at my work... where I am experiencing the battery drain... only "E" edge network avail.... sometimes 3G, most mostly not.

The lack of connectivity is likely causing the battery drain. If you have a poor connection the app may be constantly reestablishing the connection to Google Voice. That would cause battery drain. If you don't have a good connection and can't connect to WiFi I'd suggest exiting the app. Even if you received a call over a bad network the call quality wouldn't be too good.

Version 1.2.16:
- New Permission BROADCAST_STICKY required for bluetooth in ICS
- Fix time selection not allowing noon as a selection
- New checkbox in miscellaneous settings to show/hide invisible contacts
- Adjust default settings for Samsung Exhibit II
- Fix an issue on some devices with bluetooth not reconnecting when a call is answered

@SNRB: Since I have no data network to speak of at work and its draining my battery... I'd like to uninstall groove IP from my account and install it on another android phone I have under a different gmail account name... can I do that?

On the Market listing for GrooVe IP, What's New page, the features above are marked as being for 1.2.15. 1.2.16 lists "Change default to show invisible contacts" as the change.

1.2.15 and 1.2.16 came out within half an hour of each other. Only put one post here. Posted 1.2.15 and then realized on some tablets hiding invisible contacts meant no contacts showed up at all. Because of that we changed the default to show invisible contacts, which is the same behavior the app always had. But now there's a checkbox to hide them.

Hope that makes sense.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to transfer purchases in the android market. Once you buy an app it's associated with the market account that was used to purchase.

This app is now listed at $3.99 :( :(

I understand that this is an awesome concept and I am really interested in getting it. But I think at this price I will think about it and maybe wait for an alternative.

Just think that if this gets featured on engadget etc. You will very likely gets tons of purchases, but a more attractive price would definitely help this be featured etc.

I hope you consider lowering the price.

I didn't read to the end of the thread yet, but you might want to consider - sipdroid - sipdroid - Free SIP/VoIP client for Android - Google Project Hosting

It's free, works pretty well and doesn't kill the battery horribly...

Great app. Works well on my OV and my Galaxy Player. Paid $1.99 at Amazon, so for only $1.00 per device I have free calls, never another fee. Haven't used my phone in a month. The developer keeps making it better. I'm really surprised it's not $9.99.

Hi, I have GrooveIP v1.2.14 installed on my Android. I was able to use it for making and receiving calls 2 weeks ago without any issue. I used a bluetooth with my phone once and since then I am having issues with both making and receiving calls.

- I am able to call people, but when they attend the call they cannot hear me nor can I hear them.
- Also, when I receive calls it seems to go directly to voicemail. I can see the phone ringing and I press answer. But, later I see that the call went to voicemail.

I have tried all the troubleshooting settings - increasing call time, altering audio settings. I also make sure that I am signed out of gmail in all places and also check my google voice settings. It is checked to forward the call to my google chat and not my mobile number. I could not thinking of anymore troubleshooting. Will appreciate any suggestions!

This is exactly what I was looking for. With a little research I was able get these commands working in Tasker. Thanks for such a quick response.

Can you please tell me how you did this? I'm trying to do similar things but I cannot figure out how to use the intents in Tasker.

Auto exclude 911 calls from groove ip calling.

Could you make this obvious somehow so people wouldn't worry about this sort of thing then?

Auto exclude 911 calls from groove ip calling.

This has been done for a while. Previous versions if you dialed 911 from the native dialer no matter what you settings were GrooVe IP would send the call to the native phone network. In the newer versions it also sends 911 dialed from the GrooVe IP dialer to the native phone.

I'd suggest doing a clean install of the latest version. Uninstall the app, restart the device, then download/install the app from the market where you purchased. The only way to switch which interface rings would be to change the forwarding option in your Google Voice account. Android doesn't allow apps to interfere with native calls so we can't block that if GrooVe IP is ringing. The app does try to put its incoming call screen back on top of the native one. But some manufacturers block that.

Brilliant feature. I love how Groove IP overrides the native call receiver, and the interface is different, so after seeing it once it is clear that the screen is from GrooveIP and the call will be answered through there.

I believe tasker can broadcast intents. These are the intents to start and stop GrooVe IP

<intent-filter>
<action android:name="com.gvoip.START_GROOVE_IP" />
<action android:name="com.gvoip.STOP_GROOVE_IP" />
</intent-filter>

Does Groove IP use battery when it is signed out? In other words I only use Groove IP with Wifi, and when Wifi is shut off, it logs off Groove IP, do I need to physically shut it down or should I just leave it open, but logged off?

Is there a way to do this internally in Groove IP's settings or otherwise I can try the Tasker code above.

If you only have it set to use WiFi it will sign out when WiFi disconnects and should basically shut itself down. So it shouldn't use the battery, because the app isn't doing anything.

Hi,

So this is what I did:

1. I uninstalled my old groove ip application and restarted my phone.

2. Signed into the Android market with a new Gmail address (GmailID2) and bought the Groove IP app again ( The 1st app I bought was through Amazon app store using GmailID1and they dont have the updated version yet. Android wouldnt let me buy the app from their store using this GmailID1)

3. This time, with the new installation, I was able to make and receive calls in a fine manner.

4. Soon after, I again had to use the bluetooth connection on my phone to transfer some data.

5. Today, I am back to square one. I am again not able to make or receive calls using Groove IP.

Basically, I cannot use Bluetooth on my phone if I want Groove IP to function properly. Once I use the bluetooth it corrupts the exisiting GrooveIP app on my phone in some way.

I have already spent $10 in trying to use this app. Please offer a reasonable solution to this. Thank you!
