App updates fail with Package File Is Invalid error

You're correct, the 'Package File Invalid' was more recent, but other bugs, such as 'No Connection [retry],' 'could not be downloaded due to an error', as well as 'Unfortunately, Google Play has stopped' have seemed to happen at much higher frequency than they used to.

Google has such an inflated ego lately since they've become so big and successful that they have started to ignore users' complaints just like other big companies such as Apple and Microsoft. they have this 'We know what's best for all of y'all' like all of those companies. it's going to kill 'em.

I'm so glad i ain't rich like them. i don't think i could live with myself if i had that type of attitude.

I had the same issue yesterday and this morning.

I did a factory reset for other reasons at my local coffee shop yesterday. My phone started doing an auto updates (10 Google stuff) via their Wi-Fi. Everything went just fine. Then, I updated Hangouts. That went fine too.

After I came home, I downloaded PowerAmp and TuneIn Radio Pro via my home Wi-Fi and those were installed without any problems. And then, I tried to download and install NetFlix, but I got the "Package file is invalid" error. I got the same errors with Chrome and Android Forums. :p

No cell phone coverage around my house, so I went back to the coffee shop (8 miles drive) around noon today and tried to download via 3G. NetFlix, Chrome and Android Forums were all successfully installed. :)

I have been seeing this a lot more with my apps as of about a week as well.. I actually managed to get the amazon app store and that works just fine.

To be specific, Play Store seems to have the 'package file invalid' error on apps over like, 10mb. So far my Nexus 10 has updated successfully so far. I haven't touched Play on my phone after it crashed. I'm just sick of it to be honest, and unless I can change their UI back I won't touch it anymore. I can buy my apps elsewhere.

Here's an amusing little bug. Go into settings--open source licenses within Play Store. It will crash outright.

I've seen that error in the past (a while back), frustratingly with Google Search/Now.
Haven't seen it lately though on any updates. This is on my rooted S3 4.2.2.

I finally managed to (thanks to a little help from AF members) downgrade Play Store and the Play apps to their non-pastel versions. I'll see later after work if the bugs happen with them.

I've been getting this error a lot lately over the last week or so. I have a feeling it's the Play Store of the package installer. The reason is that I've fooled around with it a little bit. On an app that I get that error, I go to the Play Store page for the app then I click on Update. As it downloads and updates, I scroll down the page back and forth and viola for some reason, the update will then work without error. It's like as if I am stimulating the Play Store in a way. lol

Maybe it's just coincidence but it's worked so far for the apps that I get the package invalid error - and I've been getting quite a few lately.

LOL

It's kind of amusing. I mean, it downloads first, then gets to 'installing' and then comes up. and apparently older Play Store ain't immune. Kind of a shame Android doesn't have amusing errors like Windows did

I've seen the error message also on some apps, but after a few days they seem to update okay without doing anything.

Just remember, Linux doesn't have super cow powers!

Seems size-dependent. Anything over 5MB will fail, while smaller apps are fine. Example, LCARS UI is a meg, and updated fine. Google Chrome, conversely, is 20+MB and failed.

LCARS UI tries to be a launcher and includes some actual functionality like a browser, phone dialer and e-reader, but mostly it's a novelty for Trek fans

This happened to me once. All I did was uninstall google play and it went back to its factory mode and it updated itself and worked fine again.

Better? Nice shades of green and blue. :)

So you know what to do now if you don't like the new new Google UI colour scheme in your phone or tablet, Just go into the "Accessibility" settings and select "Negative colours".

"I've always hated magenta." :(

Yeh that's Windows 8 in the negative form. Colour scheme looks just like Star Trek LCARS UI, that's what gave me the idea for flipping the colours. :D

BTW I don't have much to do in the office this morning.

Clearly lol :D
wow thats honestly the 1st time ive seen the new windows UI. im not really a pc user so im not sure how i feel about it tbh..

I suspect for Win 8 and the Google UI, they've chosen shades that you most commonly find in nature, like greens, blues and browns. And Gene Roddenberry, or whomever, basically reversed those natural colours for the screens and controls on the Enterprise. It's a spaceship, it's in the future, we want it looking kind of alien.
