I'd that this is more close to the fact that iOS was one of the first OS at the time to have "modernized" the concept of mobile applications. The iPhone made it a winning concept and rapidly grew to become a "status symbol" of the mobile world. Even though Android is capable of the same, big company prioritize iOS. It's rather difficult to change the "idea" once it's grown so much.
