I didn't buy a $500 Android phone and a $1000 Android tablet because I was poor. I chose them because they were best in class, which includes using Linux.

My view is most people buy Andrpid tablets because they are less costly than the iPad in many cases.
color.
My friend recently bought an iPhone....barely six months and the battery keeps draining and the phone keeps hanging. Is this the case with all iPhones or maybe this piece has a defect?
And you think it is odd that a company would want to create their own products rather than rely upon the competition? Not surprising and who knows, it might have worked better than Google's efforts.
As for Apple licensing iOS, we do not know what Apple will do sans Steve Jobs. Most certainly, SJ would never allow it. Perhaps yes, probably no, but not definitely no.
Cricket and Wal-Mart sell iPhones now. They lost their snob appeal, which is really all that they had going for them. Doubt Jobs would have allowed that to happen.
Apple tried licensing out their operating systems before, years ago. That was one of the first things that SJ stopped when he came back to Apple. It wasn't good. They're extremely unlikely to do it again.

SJ is dead and buried and TC is the man in charge. No telling what he might allow to happen if times get tight. I also doubt it will happen, but one never knows.
Will Tim Cook will be another John Scully, Michael Spindler or Gil Amelio? LOL.I didn't buy a $500 Android phone and a $1000 Android tablet because I was poor. I chose them because they were best in class, which includes using Linux.
I hate this theory.
I could own a plethora of apple devices if I want. I don't because I think they're crap, not because how much is in my wallet.
Nothing wrong with being cheap and good.
No, Android Is Not Just for Poor People - Technology - The Atlantic Wire
Google's strategy. Seems to be working.
Android Is Popular Because It's Cheap, Not Because It's Good
It could also lead to a walled garden approach, so I'm a tad leery of all services. What if Android doesn't have what I want/need and I can't get it?
Probably more on the nerd end here.
Look, people really need a little more perspective. Look at the numbers.
Apple Computer reported the biggest revenue quarter in in the history of business and financial reporting. Apple Computer reported the fourth most profitable quarter ever posted by any company, ever. Apple reported the most revenue in a quarter ever and the fourth most profitable quarter.
Apple is exactly where many other corporations want to be.
Apple is wildly successful and some do not like it. Apple has all the cash and that makes it easy to launch and promote new product,s sue infringers, buy the competition and run wild.
How can a company with the fourth most profitable quarter ever and the most revenue ever, crash and burn? Some people here are predicting the end of Apple because of slow stock performance and they are simply under educated about the stock market. Look at the numbers.
My theory is Apple did not do what was expected and Wall Street does not like it. When you look at what Apple has done, however, the news is not that bad.
Again, Apple reported the biggest revenue quarter in the history of business! And this is somehow a bad thing?
Android appeals to a certain percentage of the population because they want a cool phone. they cant afford an iPhone so they go to the next best device: something Android.

Actually IBM is a notable exception.By the same token, dominant companies have crashed and burned throughout history.
American car makers. IBM. Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
Apple may have yet another rabbit in its hat. Or it might not. Time will tell. One thing that should be clear by now is that Apple is not some kind of deity. Apple is far from infallible. It's not a sure thing. I think that myth is at the center of a lot of friction about Apple. Let's at least agree that it's only a myth.
