Help Apps constantly 'stop' since ICS update (T-Mobile)

Hi all,

Not seen a thread with this particular complaint, so want to know if my phone or ICS update has a fault, because apps such as Sky+, twitter, Cricinfo will crash 50% of the time I try to start them.

Phone is standard with no user modification/rooting.

it is most annoying. basically if I click on Sky+ now, it just goes to a black screen and about ten seconds later it will say 'sorry, sky + has stopped' and ask me to accept or report. Then the second time it will launch fine.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling affected apps, but with no joy

I do believe that SGS2 phones on T-Mobile in the UK can update via Kies since late April.

This is the order in which I'd try to fix your problem.

First, I'd go to menu>settings>applications and find the apps that are crashing. Clear both the cache and the app data (you'll have to re-enter credentials, reset preferences and re-accept any terms.) I would then shut down the phone and wait a few seconds. Then reboot the phone and see if that helped.

Since you've already uninstalled and re-installed the apps without success then your next step, if the above doesn't fix it, would be to perform a factory reset. Be advised that this puts your phone back to an unregistered state (but it does not roll back updates so you'll still be on ICS.) You need to make sure that all your user data is backed up including photos, contacts, calendars, etc. or you might lose it.

Thanks for this tip - I have cleared the cache as you suggested and now the app seems to be running perfectly and starting faster than ever. I'll let you know if this is false optimism.

Do you recommend clearing the cache/app data regularly? Or is this just a fault fix?

Cheers
Ed

Gah. Spoke too soon. it crashed again today, although clearing the cache does seem to make it happen one in ten times rather than 50% of the time...
