Help Apps permissions question...

Why would an app need to be able to read your "phone state and identity?" If it has nothing to do with making calls?

Like a game or something? So it can know to stop what it's doing when you get an incoming call. <<< Really technical explanation, there.

It is also how some apps identify the type of phone you have, and therefor know it's abilities and limitations.

If you think an app has permissions it shouldn't, try one of the CM7 based ROMs. They can revoke individual permissions. You can try the app after revoking the phone permissions, and see if it still functions ok. If not, re-enable the permission if you still want to use the app, or email the dev with your conerns.

Thanks guys! It was a book app, so didn't make any sense to me....

Not ready to do custom ROM, quite green Newbie here, LOL!
