Apps you like and why.

i like hancent due to the popups and you can change the bubbles...there are a lot more settings to change on handcent

chomp also has the popups, and you can reply from the popup, mark the msg as read, call the person, or open the full chomp messaging... (all that can be done from the popup notification)! Plus chomp allows for a thorough customization, i have changed all the colors, and fonts. also have separate wallpapers for portrait and landscape for both the conversation list, as well in the actual conversation. :D

This is my chomp as of right now:

lol, so basically they are the same it seems. I believe the contact photo is turned off by default. and now that you mention it i did have to save a mms then sen it, there was no forward option, but i rarely forward things. i hate chain letters and all that do this or else crap.

i turned on the profile pic and they never loaded...and im not forwarding chain letters. im doin naughty pics i get..lol but in hancent it lets you change how the text is shown. you dont have to have the bubbles

with chomp you can change the color, and transparency of the bubbles. so you could technically turn them off. by"how the text looks" do you mean font? cause thats also an option in chomp.

you have to be rooted, but i use PicMe, and ShootMe. PicMe when running will give you a web address to browse to, and it snaps the pic when you get to the page. pretty trippy the first time, as you device will make a camera shutter noise. ShootMe when running you just have to give it a firm shake and it will snap a screenshot and i believe it saves to the sd.

well arent you a nice friend. i always keep mine for me. lol

i am buying oregon trail. i will report back to you guys.

You just dated yourself Utrick, this made me laugh! I have not thought about Oregon Trail since the early 80's. Myself, I am looking for the commodore 64 emulator for the Hero. :)

All kidding aside, I am utilizing the very compatible browser to Bookmark DOT traffic cameras in the Northern Colorado area. Shopsavvy and Where are favorites as well as the Barcode scanner. I do wish I could find Topo and road maps that are cached client side though. Any ideas?

Jack

I'm not sure if we should include 'browser' apps here like for example 'http://touch.facebook.com', but GoogleLabs FastFlip 'http://fastflip.googlelabs.com' allows me to flick right to left between the screenshot articles. However, since the Hero is ahead of standard Android technology and has pinch and zoom, Fastflip disables it apparently and has a popup instead, YUK. But, it's really cool to search in Fastflip as it returnes articles with rendered full page results.

Meebo

This App is awesome.

Consolidate all chats, just like the Meebo web site, Meebo - Connecting AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Facebook, MySpace messengers

Consolidate AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk, and even Facebook chat!

Have it running all the time if you want, instant notifications.

Best of all, Apple doesn't have a Meebo App!

Meebo tells iPhone users to use it through the Safari browser.

Android Meebo totally rocks of Meebo for iPhone.

Once you have this installed, you don't need to use the Gtalk App or the IM Core Apps that came pre-installed.

This is probably my favorite App by far.

.

Two weeks with my Hero and go back to Skymaps, seriously cool. Handcent for SMS. Babbler. Whack a Mole. Lightsaber. Google Voice is tight. AndroBlogger. Barcode Scanner is wicked.

I would like a better app for blogging, new posts with AndroBlogger are Ok but you cant add pics.

From what I understand Chomp does not support MMS only SMS. Think that is why most use Handcent. If I am wrong, and chomp will allow picture messaging etc let me know. I found chomp to be a little faster than handcent.

Key Ring: This will scan in all your membership cards. Vons, Ralphs, blockbuster, Macys etc. I can't tell you how much thinner my wallet is now that I was able to take all those cards out. If vons needs my card, I pull it up on my phone and they scan the screen.

its like the first augmented reality app for the android platform - you hold it up to the night sky and using the view through the camera, it overlays the constellations over the actual stars

really amazing
:)

It is an awesome app, but it has nothing to do with the camera. It takes your position (either via cell-site or GPS), the date/time, and determines where the stars are in relation to you. It then displays the stars location on your phone based on the compass heading and accelerometer indications.

I will post a full list of my apps tomorrow I have close to 35. But my two favorites are places directory. It is kinda like "where" but easier to use. Where kinda put too much in there app. And jetflicks. It streams TV. And there is a lot of good shows on there. Everything from family Guy to trueblood... and it is pretty up to date.

I had tried out both chomp and Handcent. I originally liked chomp better than Handcent, until I realized chomp only did SMS, not MMS. Handcent does both. So if I want to send a pic, I just press the pic and select "Send via Handcent". I didn't think chomp could do that (though I'm sure there have been updates since I tried it).

So an app I miss from my Blackberry was the Windows Live Search. Is there an Android analog? I love searching a store/restaurant and adding their info to my contacts.

GOOD GOD!

WHY WHY WHY did I install Robo Defense? They should have put a disclaimer on the program that states something like:

"After 5 minutes of playing this game, you will develop a heroin-type dependency on it and when not playing, will begin to shake uncontrollably"

That is one fun ass game!! :)

Best ever in my opinion. I have never seen a mobile phone game cooler than this!!!

So thanks to an iPhone friend, yp.com app fits the bill perfectly.
