Help Archiving sms messages?

Some of my threads have over 600 texts in them, and are taking forever to load up. Is there a way/app to archive these and then delete them as they go?

Hmm, not sure if this would work for your purposes, but "SMS Backup & Restore," by Ritesh Sahu, lets you archive your messages and name the backup file, and you can also read the backed-up file as conversation threads by person. Then you would delete the messages on your actual phone. Sounds like it would work.

ChompSMS also has an option to delete after a certain # in a thread, if that appeals to you.

Handcent still loads my threads MUCH faster. Even with 2000 in one thread, still loads them almost instantly.

holy crap, Handcent is amazing! Extremely customizable and nice htc integration. How have I been surviving without it?
