Are Obama Phones Real?

This might be old news, (it was two years ago if I remember) but I thought it was fake story then.

Anyways, we recently contacted our uncle from the States, we give him money since he can't really support himself and is on welfare.

When our cousin surprised him, he was shock to learn that he has a cell phone, (he said he can't even afford good food) and even has a plan not a cheap prepaid. He said he got it from the state.

I have heard of the Obama Phone but I thought that it was just an urban legend, so it is real? Or is my dear old uncle just lying and using our money to get a phone.
 
Yes. There are free cell phones available to people on welfare. They come with 90 minutes on them. They've been available way before Obama became president so I'm not sure how that moniker started.

Not only is it real, but Obama, while on a trip to his native Kenya, personally signed all the bonus checks for the Wall Street executives. We know this because Orly Taitz told us so. :rolleyes:
 
But they should only give people phone that really NEED them. My uncle doesn't need a phone, this should go to the disabled people that aren't really mobile so they have a phone accessible when they have an emergency.
 
I've heard commercials for these phones over the years, and it really irks me. I can see electricity, housing, and food being a necessity.

But paying for a cellphone? With MY money? That I WORK for? That's unacceptable.
 
Phones are a necessity. Cell Phones are a luxury. Unless they really need contact with medical and emergency services, they don't need a cell phone.

My uncle is just lazy and a professional panhandler. I don't see a reason why he need a welfare phone.

Is America that crazy?
 
this perhaps made sense before but now... phones can be purchased for €30 with COLOUR SCREENS (:eek:)
I know the benifits system in the US is fairly measly, but still
sounds like one of those unnessecary schemes that are just wasting bureaucrats time and the states money

eh I presume he was a Filipino immigrant to the US looking for a job, so why do you think he was lazy?
 
I can see it for emergency purposes only,....everyone should be able to get a hold of police/fire station if needed.

But other than that....
 
Obama wants to steal from the rich and give to.. everyone. Socialism at it's best. (or worst?)

Oh, I see. Weird, why is that? Shouldn't the citizens get the benefits from its own state.

Not all things should be provided by the government. The necessities, food, housing, education are, but not cell phones.

If this goes on, people on welfare won't get a job, because EVERYTHING will be provided for them. You need to teach them how to fish.

in theory? maybe.
but rememeber immigints are comming here for a fresh start and often have no money, and some are illegal, therefore they need a heloing hand from goverment. and if they get it maybe acorn will vote for more democrats. oh thats right only citizens can vote *wink*
 
o_O Citizens first before immigrants. It's the opposite here in the Philippines. Unless you're a citizen, you're on your own. There's even what we call "White Man Tax"
 
not so here.
it used to be, not sure if it still is, that some immigrants could get no interest goverment loans to start a business. was told this by one who did.

and then if your in the, iirc, lowest 47% of income you dont pay taxes, heck you could even get an earned income credit and get money from the goeverment.

so, no job, getting goverment assistance, just file tax forms and get mor money.
i mean why not come here?
 
I don't believe that the government is a charity. I also believe that a huge percentage of people abuse the system, not only do they actually hurt people, but also the progress of the country. My cousin survived at his job without a cell phone, as to I at a period of time.
