Are Obama Phones Real?

Texting? Texting shouldn't even be an option.

Cell phone for (extremely limited) incoming calls (for a job, I suppose) and e911 calling? Ok fine. I'll buy it. But dialing out and offering discounted plans? There's absolutely no need for that.

I agree with everything you just said there. No text, limited calling to certain numbers. I'd say work and an emergency contact; 911 is a given. The bare minimums for communcation

Post 58, it was posted by someone else trying to disprove me. Unfortunately, they failed to read my posts and their link.

No, I want you to post the text that says what you say it does...

If you can't provide it, then it's the text that I've posted from the law, versus your claim that it says otherwise.

people are agains the hc because they dont want to pay for what someone else wants. 47% of americans pay no taxes. half of these get money fromt he goverment, and want more.

people that find a good job with healthcare may be taxed on that helathcare. they would then drop it and get on the goverment.
more money needed taxes go up.

IF, a big if, everyone paid something in taxes then maybe things could would be diff.

OK, I'll bite.

To me, health care isn't something a person would want, much more so need. Not to mention, if you have people who can't afford the health care, how would they get a job to pay taxes, I know I wouldn't hire someone who is sick at the interview over someone who isn't (assuming similar qualifications etc) and I definitely wouldn't keep someone employed who was getting sick often.

I struggle to see how every civilised country in the world has a health care system and yet the one that (until recently) had the most successful economy didn't and it seems that so many people are against it.

Finally, I used to utilise the health care system in Australia to get my diabetes medication cheaper, however, am now earning more and don't receive the help, yet my medication is still (according to a friend of mine who buys the same stuff in the states) about a quarter of the price here, so someone is ripping the USA off as far as medication goes (not alcohol though, you definitely have the cheaper booze ;) )

oh my lord

can a mod please split the USPS debate somewhere else?? I don't even know or care wtf they are talking about anymore.

please explain how the gov running healtcare would make it cheaper and better?

they cant run the post office and even break even.

Sorry I got off topic, this is where and why it happened. I don't like misinformation, and felt I need to point out the fallacies in this statement. At wich point the senior members helped me take it off the deep end.

my fault, maybe we should have a helathcare thread too :)

The way I see it, the "obama" phone is a form of welfare. Universal healthcare isn't. I feel it should fall in the category of infrastructure. Like our highway system, and it postal system. Everyone should have the same access to these regardless of their income levels. I put my view out there, and I will try to make it as far off topic as that. Any one who would like to discuss this further, please pm me or start a new thread.

It's workable. Similar to I.C.E. that Verizon phones use.

but i do agree people can be frugal in that area. I suspect this won't be a long-standing program though as the gov't will realize this also. Its Not a bad idea though

Maybe its just me, but it seems a waste of resources to give someone a phone that can only be used to call X amount of numbers and not text anyone

i do support things like universal book schemes tho, but thats to do with children

It would be a waste of resources to "create" new phones just for this purpose, yes. But there are plenty of recycled phones that can be reactivated on this network, assuming they use common U.S. cdma or gsm bands.
