Are there any Bible apps?

I've been looking for a version that provides page turning rather than page scrolling. Olive tree has that in other systems (Windows Mobile and Palm) and hopefully will add it to the Android version. The Windows Mobile and Palm versions of Olive Tree are excellent and I'm anxiously awaiting for the Android version to catch up... but beginning to lose patience. One nice thing about Olive Tree is that if you change platforms, you can download prior purchases to your new system.

I agree. I have gone across three platforms.

I do wonder if they will ever make the Android port as vibrant as the original PalmOS port. The BB port wasn't even close.

I think the reason it can be provided at no charge is because it's only accessible online. Presumably, they would have to charge for an offline version.

LifeChurch will never charge for YV if they can help it; the iPhone does have partial offline capabilities, IIRC.

I'm waiting for someone to make an Android app of the Skeptic's Annotated Bible. My idea is that you would be able to scroll up or down through the books - complete with highlights - and maybe slide out a panel from the right to see the annotations. Of course all of the data would need would need to be stored on the device in case an Internet connection is not available - but the app would also need to be able to receive annotation updates. I have thought about learning some Android programming and making the app myself, but the way the HTML on the site is formatted, it doesn't look like it would be too easy to import the data. I may poke around with Android programming some more and see what I can figure out. I think such an app would be a great resource for many. :)

I'm moving to android from various formats (palm, ipod touch - go android!).
I found mantisbible to be the best of the bunch - unfortunately, they are not quite ready with their android version, but should be this summer.
Cadre is the best so far. Been using olivetree but it's a bit buggy - makes a good connection with evernote to save your notes.

To open once again an old thread...

Just wondering if there are any Hebraic / Hebrew Roots Bible apps?

I use e-Sword on the computer and "The Scriptures" for printed.

I think I may have to just use the King Jimmy it seems...

I am a long time win mobile user (HTC Touch), just recently converted to Android (Nexus One). I've used e-sword, both mobile & desktop, and IMO, it was the best "free, offline, expandable" software for win mobile devices you can get. Just sad to see the developer is no longer supporting the application.

I'm in search for something similar on my new device. Reading through the topic posts, Ryan B, has sold me over to Cabrebible, so I'll give it a shot. Tecarta also looks in-line, with what I'm searching for. I'm picking Youversion, & Olivetree for last resorts.

The topic here, & postings helped me to narrow my search. Thanks to all!

I like Cadrebible a lot. Seems to be very similar to Olive Tree.

I read an study the Bible daily. After trying many apps, I finally found one that is (in my opinioon) the best. It is called OliveTree. You can find it in the market. The King James version is free. If you are looking for a different version, you have to pay for it. In my opinion though, the King James is the best.

Don't settler for kjv. ;) just search "hebrew bible" in the market and there are some there. I myself am looking for a good greek bible. Also for nrsv and one with lots of translations. I wil find some free life versions and then purchase them when i find one.

I downloaded youversion.... how do I get offline versions? I much prefer KJV, NKJV, NIV & NLT & I can't wait to get them! :)

God Bless!

I was just about to post some updates and saw your post. :)

YouVersion now supports Notes and (as noted in the post I quoted) downloadable Bibles!

Now, you can download specific translations... not all are downloadable and available offline.

To download a translation, click on "Bible" and then click on the Book/translation at the top of the screen. Then click on the greyed translation on the right.

The translations that are available for download and offline use have a grey arrow beside them. I believe ESV, NLT and KJV (to name a few) are available for offline use. You can manage your offline versions from Settings.

The Notes feature allows you to drill down into study. Every registered YouVersion user can attach a note or pertinent point to a Bible verse; these notes are a huge part of the YV community. Now, you can add your notes on the go, right from your Android device.

True blessing...

thank you so so much! :)
I've managed to set it up, both on mine & my gfs! :)

I also want to thank everyone for their input with the exception of one post, having a daily message and or reading is a great blessing, and even better when it comes to your phone. I hate to think I am a bit lazy however a daily message sent to my phone makes it easier for me to stay in touch. Thanks again.
