Are VZW employees really that clueless about g-nex??

Coming from a nerd vzw employee -- plz don't let that one be the voice for the rest of us.

Yanno, it's the incompetence of my local VZW corporate store that actually has started me down my path. I'm a WSE for Wireless Advocates who operate the kiosks inside of Costco. Basically, I was having issues with my g/f's Droid Incredible, and I knew I could upgrade, but I wanted to see if I could get it operational to at least hand off (I have a family plan with 5 lines). After having a heated discussion with the tech who knew absolutely nothing, the CSR could only laugh. He then suggested that perhaps I should start selling phones. I figured that they didn't make all that much, but when he started throwing numbers around, I was intrigued as a man of my education and work history has very little chance to see yearly figures like that.

After about a week or so I decide to go ahead and upgrade her phone. Wind up talk to the KM who just happened to have an opening. After shooting it around, I didn't realize I just had an interview. Turns out, I was hired that day. lol

I'm def a close follower of mobile technology, and I'm most certainly an Android enthusiast. Just about everything I've learned, I've learned from this site, and I can never thank the people here enough. I'm def a nerd/geek/dork whatev, I just happen to be awesome. lol

My guy last night was pretty knowledgeable about the phones. He didn't make a single mis-step in what we chatted about as he activated my Rezound. He was even kind enough to suggest that since I have a 14-day return period, that I should return the Rezound and pay the $35 restocking fee if the Nexus comes out.

Hmm...ya don't say?!

Except that I have longer than 14 days so says the interwebs and my receipt, but I'll forgive him for his misinformation on the return policy since he was such an otherwise knowledgeable guy and even encouraged me to rent-a-Rezound even though that's what I was already there to do anyway.

He even said, "What if I told you the GNex was coming out soon?" "Soon, how soon is 'soon?'" I say, and he says, "How about before Christmas?" I laughed in his face. Not soon enough. My droid freezes answering a phone call. I told him, "soon" would be in the next week.

He smiled and said it would be out in December.

Whatever you say buddy. You can have this Beats by Dre box back when it shows.

I still appreciated his knowledge on the topic of phones in general. I have had some real winners in my VZW store, so he was a welcomed change.

I was in my local store a little while ago to see about possibly upgrading early because my Droid charge is manure... I was asking questions about the Razr, which was in display and is a might fine looking device, I then asked about the gnex and she didn't even know who was making the phone or anything else about it..?

I guess vzw employees are not phone nerds like us??

I had a VZW rep actually admit it. When I was in a corporate store buying the Bionic on that launch day a couple months ago, I referenced the upcoming "Nexus Prime" (at that time) and she said that some other customers had mentioned it too. She was wondering how we all hear about this stuff before them. She admitted that she just wasn't into phones like that.

Funny thing is.. I used to own a couple mobile stores back in the early 2000's - and I didn't really keep up like I do now, back then. I just wanted to start a business. The phone thing was secondary. I wasn't that bad, but now I'm on these boards hitting refresh all day - every day like an addict.
