AT&T Aria coming June 20th!

Kinda true.

Hardware is pretty much the same-
Both have 1GHz Hummingbird processors (A4 is a Hummingbird variant)
Both have 5MP cameras w/ 720p videorecording.
Captivate has a 4" Super AMOLED display while iPhone4 has a very high res 3.5" LCD

Captivate probably has more ram (it has to lol. I heard iPhone4 only has 256megs)
Captivate comes with 16GB internal memory PLUS a MicroSD slot. iPhone4 has 16GB/32GB
iPhone4 has a front facing camera (not a biggie for me, but is for some people)
iPhone4 is made of glass while Captivate is made of plastic (they had to skimp somewhere lol)

Captivate runs Android while iPhone4 runs iOS4 (obviously)

Based on that, I think the Captivate should be priced either the same as the 16GB iPhone4 or between the 32GB iPhone4. $299 with 2-year contract is too much imo (I think it is too much for the 32GB iPhone4 lol).

Word now is the iPhone 4 has 512MB RAM. Kinda makes the iPad look silly...

We will have to see about the glass...im not so sure I like the idea of a glass front AND back

lol that guys funny. Love how he starts reminiscing near the end. uhg what he said about battery life... hope its just a break in thing or something.

Well, that guy also never charged the battery. He is just running it off the charge it had when he received it, and it may not have been fully charged when it was shipped. You can see he hasn't even opened the charge cable packaging in the video (unless he used another charger he had).

I am willing to bet that since his entire livelihood is from reviewing phones, surely he has a micro USB charger lying around somewhere

he said he had it for a couple days, he must have charged it once ><

Yeah, i got the same thing from my wife's Pantech Impact. $50 Visa card you can use it anywhere Visa can be used. I just didn't like the several weeks waiting for it.

Really it's just a scam, they hope people are too lazy to send it in, and they want this phone to look worse than the much more powerful iPhone 4 for $30 less out of pocket...sheesh.

It really isn't a scam, but to me it is very poor customer service. They do work, they are a pre-loaded "gift" card. But like you say, they do play this game in hopes that enough people will not follow all the steps and loose the rebate. That way they can advertise a lower price, but maybe only 75% get that price, etc.

I have done many of them and they can be a pain, but you do get them and they are usable anywhere.

Here are the basic steps:

1. Buy a phone :D
2. Fill out allot of forms, attach receipt, label from box, 1 pint of blood
3. Mail all paperwork, etc to somewhere in South Dakota
4. Wait for your mail, it won't be a Card, but a flyer that looks more like junk mail (this is where I think they loose most people), they flyer will tell you that you are been awarded a "prize" or something and gives you a website to go claim it.
5. Log into the website and claim your gift card & wait another 6 weeks. etc ;)
6. Receive Gift Card in the mail 3-8 weeks later, ( i actually normally get them early
7. Spend the money. This can be a pain too, because some companies treat it like a gift card and will drain it to zero (Petsmart did this) and some will just decline it if you go over
8. Get every last penny. It can be challenging to spend it all, U can log on and get the balance and if a store is nice, you can ask them to card exactly what is left.

Now, here is a kicker that makes this part even more enjoyable, some merchants, (gas stations, restaurants, etc) will pre-charge a fix amount that might exceed the limit or drain the balance for a few days, so you have to be careful with them.

Now, for my last experience. I got 2 cards for Uverse, 1 for $50 and 1 for $100. I used the $100 card to take my wife out for dinner, nice place, no drinks, bill came to about $75. I used the card and added $15 to make the total $90. I knew I now had $10 left. I spent the $50 at movies and Petsmart and it zeroed out, leaving me a balance on the bill. Later I changed about $20 at Target on the card that had a balance of $10 and expected the same thing to happen at Petsmart, I told them it was a "Gift card", but they processed it like a credit card instead and now I had a negative balance. When I checked the balance on-line all the charges appeared and it took forever for them to pay the resteraunt, but ultimately they did the card still has a negative balance.

AT&T does their customers wrong by this stupid shell game, so I didn't mind that they ended up eating the extra $10. I would be a much happier customer if they just gave you an instant credit on the bill or evey spread it out over a few months so they could guarantee you stayed around.

Quote from AT&T:

Pricing and Availability:
HTC Aria will be available on June 20 at AT&T retail locations nationwide or at Cell Phones and Cell Phone Plans - Wireless from AT&T for $129.99 after $100 mail-in rebate (pay $229.99 and after mail-in rebate receive $100 AT&T Promotion Card. Two-year agreement required and smartphone data plan required).

I just realized that the 20th is Sunday, seems like an odd day for a product release, but maybe that is just me :D

Wrong it is $230 with a $100 rebate. So up front out of pocket is more than an iphone 4 16gb. Which the final price is not bad having to pay more up front than the iphone just shows how much AT&T wants android to fail to me.

Why get the phone from AT&T when you can get the phones from Best Buy without having to worry about mail in rebates. Its $120 at BB

This phone like it's carrier will be crap. I HATE AT&T !!!

Lol nah it's already shown to be faster than anyone expected. It is just a mid level phone for the average joe or people who don't want to wait for an android. The benchmark tests also looked great too.

Maybe because not everyone has a Best Buy real close. Nearest one to me is about 2.5 hours away.
But it is more on principal that they AT&T has this phone in its retail outlets for a higher out of pocket price than the iphone. It speaks volumes to me.

No, that's not correct. It will be on the iPad in the fall and 3GS when iOS4 is released.

My bad. iOS4 will indeed be available for the iPhone 3GS and the iPad (3G only) and the third gen iTouch. The problem lies not in the iOS per se, but the ability to multitask, even in Apple's restricted capacity. The 3GS and the iPad 3G only have 256MB ram for the the OS and i had read somewhere (sorry, can't find it right now) that because of the OS footprint and the way iOS kills suspended processes when new ones are started, 256MB is not enough to effectively multitask. The only Apple device to have more than that presently is the iPhone 4. Perhaps I read it wrong or it is an issue Apple will have resolved when the updates are official.

What iOS4 does is it kills the task when it runs out of memory. Before it kills it, it takes a snapshot of where you were in the app and when you load it back up from the task manager, it just relaunches the app and resumes where you were. The user won't know the difference. The apps that are still "running" have all tasks frozen except for API approved tasks.

tl;dr Running apps are just apps persisting in memory, killed apps are reloaded from their previous state.

I'll keep it short, then. It's an improvement for sure, but not really multitasking, more like advanced task switching. Welcome to the 1980's.

I completely agree. And it is multitasking and it isn't multitasking at the same time. There are several things that your app can do in the background such as music, location services, etc. Still not full multitasking like they are advertising.
