AT&T to UNCRIPPLE Inspire

Hey Mike.. I just got my Inspire this week, and everyone is tellng me to root it. They all have Verizon phones....and I have googled rooting this one to death..and keep seeing how to do verizons phones... Can you point me in direction to do my insprire?? Do you have any step by steps I can follow? I do NOT want to trash it...so any help would be great.. Especially links to backup software, etc that I will need.

Thanks for any and all help,

- Greg

See this video - YouTube - HTC Inspire 4G AT&T Simple Root - and go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406 to get the actual program. Like I said in my earlier post, it was a tricky, convoluted path to follow, and I'm no ones idea of a tech expert, yet I WAS able to root my Inspire in about an hour. Follow the video, step by step and do exactly what they say to do and you'll be OK.

My biggest "problem" was the time I had to wait for some of the processes to complete. I'm not a patient person - and some of those processes take 10 min or more to complete - but you just have to wait it out. Making the gold card was something I'd never done before, so it was pretty strange. I would advise NOT using your existing SD card. Buy a 2 or 4 GB Sandisk SD card to use and when you're done - when you've got the phone rooted - take the gold card out, and replace it with the SD card which came with the phone. Put the gold card back in the container it came in, label it and put it someplace safe, in case you need it again.

If you can follow the directions, you can root the Inspire. It's not real easy but it IS doable, and the rewards outweigh the hassle. :)

For roms, see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1018

Feel free to PM me, if you need anything else or get stuck.

One last thing: "Must Have Apps" are Titanium Backup (get the paid version) and Root Explorer. Both are invaluable, but both require root access to work properly.

Hey, it's April and my Inspire's suddenly running much faster....

April 1st that is... Like the articles said, it's going to be a while.

Flawless! I'm rooted!!!!!!!!!! :D

Well, it doesn't work on my phone.. Tried with 4 different cards, and the one click program (makegoldcard part of it) simply will NOT work. Followed the video and instructions to the letter. Simply will not complete the final step. Gives error. And yes, EVERYTHING was done correctly.. Off to try and find a different way to do it.. Sadly, I have yet to find one...

I read that it's very fussy about what brand of SD card is used; apparently you're expected to try different brands until you find one that works!. However, these same people say that the stock 8GB card that came with the Inspire works fine for gold-carding. Haven't tried it myself though.

I used the stock 8gb card that came with my Inspire to make the gold card. Had 0 issues.

I went to Best Buy and bought a 2GB PNY SD micro card. It was $12.99. It's the first card i tried. Worked like a charm!
