AT&T/Verizon/Sprint/T-Mobile/US Cellular pull Android 4.3 update

I know... strange then, that Samsung engineers still use Factory Data Reset and re-flashing of firmware to solve update problems when you visit a Samsung service point. You'd think they'd know better! ;)

I'm not saying it won't solve any problem, only that it's become advice given too often.

But as to your comment about visiting a Samsung service point, it reminds me of when I used to call tech support and the person on the other end of the line would recommend things that clearly wouldn't do anything. Just because they work in tech support doesn't mean they know squat.

I actually do agree with you on that point in some instances. Sometimes, clearing Cache and/or Data for a particular app will work just as well for minor problems.

Yeah... but have you tried turning it off and then turning it on to see if that fixes it. :D

Hopefully, this latest Android 4.3 release mentioned in post #23 will fix some of the actual firmware problems mentioned in post #1. I'm flashing it now, so we shall see.

I updated 2 days ago and I have to say...it was the WORST choice I made in a long longggg time...My phone is basically unusable it just went from being and Ok phone to now random reboots, freezes, and even worst call qualility. I really wish I never took this update.

For those who purchase a smart phone that they merely expect to be "usable/functional while unobtrusive", it is amazing how the need for a forced factory reset has jumped into the picture. It seems that the programmers from both the manufacturer(s) as well as the providers have lost sight of the customer/consumer who does not want to be bothered with factory resets, etc. Either the "updates" ( & hopefully not downgrades!) should be seamless for the average consumer. Those technically adept who wish to do more can do so, but the average consumer who merely want an up to date reliable smart phone should not have to deal with factory resets!!!

If this is not possible, consumers should be warned to "accept [factory] updates at your own risk!" If this made its way to public, competitive marketing ads, I wonder if things would improve!

I just got my Sprint S4, 4 or 5 days ago. Sprint guy forced update while in the store. No problems with my phone so far that I can tell. Seems to be working great..

Thanks for the info, Ironass. But I think I'll wait a bit on this release/fix. I have 4.3 rooted and stable, so have time to wait to see how this goes over before jumping back in that fire again.

well i have just installed the update and can confirm that it fixes the issue of the animation scale changing to 1 every time you start the camera. i also have not seen any security warnings yet either.

it doesn't fix the issue i have been having with wifi timer though, mine still doesn't put my turn my wifi on when the timer gets to the on time :(

Have not manually downloaded 4.3. Noticed this morning that the bar at top of home page has an icon which, when opened, states that new software was downloaded and to click to install. IS IS NOW SAFE TO INSTALL THE Sprint 4.3?

Need more info. What release and rom are you at? Are you rooted?

not rooted. Stock GS4 phone purchased June 2013. Carrier = Sprint (yes, Ugh - recent VERY poor service and all. Had been EXCELLENT coverage/service until recently!)

Currently, the only Android 4.3 firmware showing for the SPH-L720, Sprint, is MJA. This is the original Android 4.3, pre bug fix, release.

Thanx!! Will await further input before installing the update!! Do not want to have to do a factory reset as part of the "Upgrade"( de facto downgrade!).

Hopefully some app writer will come along with the UNROOTED answer / equivalent to the 'nandroid'!!!

The good news is that Samsung have started pushing out the latest Android 4.3, "bug fix", firmwares at a high rate of knots. See, here.

That would be extremely useful but I fear, that without root access, it will not be possible. The nearest I've come across, so far, is Helium, from the Play Store, combined with sync'ing to one's gmail account.

my only issue after days of the upgrade is.. ANDROID OS is the top battery eater. . . :( I plan to visit the service center tomorrow. ..

Does anyone know if Sprint has incorporated the Samsung "bug fixes" into the release(s) of the past few days? Is it "safe" to instally the Sprint software update?

Yes, this is a PLEA for a "FULL NANDROID EQUIVALENT" for NON-rooted phones.

As per post #44...

Currently, the only Android 4.3 firmware showing for the SPH-L720, Sprint, is MJA. This is the original Android 4.3, pre bug fix, release.

There have been no other releases so far for Sprint, Android 4.3.

As per post #49..

You cannot have a, "full nandroid equivalent", mirror image in time of OS, system, files, settings and apps, without root access.
