I have had the bug many times. It usually happens after wifi has been on continuously for couple of days. I rarely turn off my Wifi signal myself (I use the Battery Widget toggle and also the Quick Settings app). A soft reset usually fixes it anyway. Has not been as annoying as the inability to have aGPS or cell site triangulation or whatever it is that fixes location accurately when you are indoors.

I do not use Wifi, but I did install the switch widget and do have the bug. The phone has switched twice on its own to airplane mode. Its a real pita to figure out how to get it back when you are driving. I had to pull over and spend a few minutes trying to figure out how to get out of it.

I use wifi every time I am home (secure network... as much as one can be) and every nigt I am on the road in hotels for work (unsecure in every sense of the word). NO issues of any kind with this, I also had to put my phone in and out of airplane mode 6 times a day (pilot) and never had any issues wth it not wanting to come out of airplane mode... in fact I'm posting from the moment now through my home wifi

Keep in mind too that the officially reported bug does NOT disable wifi (or bluetooth, or GPS), it only disables the cell radio. Maybe we should compile a list of the characteristics of this issue, I can start:

- cellular access appears to be disabled
- signal meter is empty with an "x" on it (have there been any confirmed reports of it having the actual airplane icon?)
- settings may or may not indicate airplane mode is enabled
- GPS, WiFi and BT all continue to work
- phone does not give any notification that it has lost cell signal (excepting the signal meter)
- at best the phone must be restarted to clear the issue, at worst... hard reset? (is this confirmed?)
- issue appears to affect users who use Wifi (if this poll is at all accurate!)

please copy, add and edit as appropriate!

The settings do indicate airplane mode, however it is shown as "no signal" on the status bar.

I will now cede that this bug is in relation to WIFI. Wifi was acting earlier in the afternoon, losing signal and my phone was attempting to use the carrier data. I figured I was done doing things, and left the device for a couple of hours and then low and behold the bug arises. I am getting frustrated and have lost business because of clients calling and me not being able to assist them... praying for a fix ASAP.:(

BenHoltz

Yeah still none of those issues, mind you I am in different time zones multiple times a day, MANY different wifi spots each week, and airplane mode on and off frequently but neither of our moments have this issue

Wait, so the "airplane mode" bug doesn't actually put it in airplane mode? Hmm.
I have had some issues connecting when the battery is low. I always thought it was like my blackberry, where it has trouble connecting to the net after coming back from roaming.

Ok folks... well it happened.

Wifi was on, first data was seeming sluggish, then all data stopped, then later I picked up the phone and the "x" was in the signal bars. Airplane mode was not being reported.

This is the first time it has happened, and in my opinion, only happened because of the my enabling Wifi.

A soft reset fixed the issue.

I'm reasonably sure that this isn't always the case. I don't believe mine reported being in airplane mode, and I think others have reported similar observations. I'll make sure and check if/when it happens to me again.

I've had this problem for over a month. I was also beginning to think that it was Wifi related after DL the WiFi widget or some other DL'd APP that it would seem to go into Airplane Mode without notifcation. It took some soft and hard resets to get it going.

So after the last hard reset I decided not to use Wifi/GPS, and no downloads from the Market. I just used the basic tools - text, email, dialer, and browser.

My Moment had an up time of 70 hrs without shutting down/restart until I noticed that "x" on the notification bar. Airplane mode was enabled and my moment was not being used I just had it on the charger with a bar or two of signal strength.

So now I'm not sure what could have caused it to go into Airplane Mode.

I never have my wifi on and occassionally my moment will go stupid and enter into airplane mode. The latest occurance of this was just a few days ago.

Held down the end call button, the phone said it was in airplane mode. Took it out of airplane mode from the options box, but that did not remove it from airplane mode. Nor would going through the options.

I had to power down the phone and bring it back up to remove AP mode. It doesnt happen to me very often, but it can be an annoyance.

The problem happens to me regularly, like every few days. It happens when I end a call with the power button, screen pops up for Airplane Mode and the only way to get the phone to work is a soft reset via battery removal. Wifi not enabled.

Potential buyers beware!

I like the idea of this poll but it only underscores Sprints inability to properly support this phone/platform. As Sprint customers, we should not be left to groping around in the dark to figure out what is causing this. Sprint is aware of the problem and should have already released an update to resolve it. If I notice it has gone into Airplane Mode, I have to pull the battery and wait for a hard boot to make a call, not good. Even worse, if I do not notice it I am missing calls until I do, really pisses me off!

The Airplane Mode bug coupled with no Android 2.0 for up to 6 months and unresolved bluetooth issues leaves a me disappointed with this purchase to say the least. Sprint needs to get their act together.

suspecting apps that help turn-on/off wifi, gps, etc. It may be a good idea for everyone who is having this issue what toggle app is used. And per @jhazelwood, list task monitoring/killing app too. I use Quick Settings & Taskiller and no bugs. I use WiFi.

i had that bug happen to me multiple times, it happens a lot more when wi-fi is enable but not connected and try to download something big like a pod cast or stream Pandora over 3g, though it has happened without wi-fi being on, in my case i was running google's ''listen'' pod cast reader/player every single time I'd try to download a podcast over data connection ''3g'' it would start normal and then quit and eventually go into airplane mode.

so my solution to the problem is... quit using data connection use only wi-fi and wait until an android update becomes available, hopefully it will fix the bug.

still use 3g for email, twitter, and normal browsing.

I turn my Wi-Fi on every time I try to use my GPS, and I have never had the airplane mode issue.. Fingers crossed.. I got my Moment on the very first day too- Oct 1..
I DO use a widget to turn my Wi-Fi on. I think it is the Curve one? They also make the Bluetooth on/off widget.
Glad to say I have not had the airplane mode issue at all when turning my Wi-Fi on/ off with this widget.
Sorry to those of you that have.. Sounds like a real PITA.

I've gone about two weeks now with wi-fi disabled and have not had a recurrence of this issue. Previously, it happened about every day or every other day at least once.

Maybe a modification to the Poll? How many times has it happened? For me only once, but I do not use wi-fi regularly.

Oh yeah maybe this needs to be a sticky or it's going to fall down :)

I've had the phone for 2 weeks and it's happened twice. The first time I thought it was something I did. The second time I'm sure I did not do anything.

well damn you people, as soon as i posted that it never happened to me i have had it happen 2 times both were sitting in my room using wifi listening to pandora, power off and on fixed it

I've been having this issue since the first few days I've had the moment, which was about three weeks ago. I've never noticed airplane mode being turned on, but it seems like once every couple of days, my data connection will crap out (as in, Pandora hangs, google maps stops updating, etc), then after a few seconds the signal drops to nothing and I get thr little x in the corner of the meter.

I use an app called Switch Pan, it provides quick shortcuts for data, 2g, wifi, BT, etc. When I see this glitch, BT and wifi both work just fine, but Switch Pan shows the cellular radio is turned off, and no amounts of fiddling with that app or my phone options will allow it to turn back on. I've tried everything I can think of, turning off all the other radios, playing with roam settings, nothing short of rebooting the phone will get it to come back.

As soon as I reboot by holding down the end button, selecting power off, then booting back up, everything is fine. The radio comes back up to full signal, or whatever strength I normally have in that area, and I usually get a handful of alerts for new VMs and texts.

When I first got the phone, it seemed related to wifi. However, now I keep wifi turned off most of the time to conserve battery and I still see it. It's happened at home sitting at my dining room table where I get 1mbps download speeds, it's happened on the charger, on the road. I can't find any pattern to it. After getting frustrated of having to frequently reboot and wait for this beast to load up, I finally did a google search and came across this thread.

After seeing everyone else's experiences, I'll try uninstalling my toggle apps, paying attention to if I've used wifi recently, updating the profile, etc, and see if I start to notice any patterns.

After getting tired of reboots I read this forums posts and did the following: Unistalled Wifi Widget using the settings>applications & installed App Killer so I could see what was running on my Moment. Then shut down the dozen apps that were running, some of which I hadn't used in weeks that were still running dispite numberous battery removal resets! Phone works great now, so far... much more responsive also.

Relieved to see other people here with the same problem. Got this phone Dec 20th. This airplane/disconnect whatever mode happened 3 times in the next four days.

I have used wifi and enabled it with and without widgets. One time I went to sleep with the phone on the charger and connected via wifi to my lan and it was in the fail mode when I woke up in the morning.

Another time it happened right after I enabled GPS in the system menus

This has been happening to me - maybe once a week. Today this is how it occured:

- got to work, connected to secured wifi network
- checked phone a few hours later after it had been charging, and the 'x' was visible above the signal icon
- held down power button, Airplane mode indicated "ON"
- turned off airplane mode, no change
- rebooted, cell signal returned, and NO WIFI. My local network here at work says "out of range, remembered"

Don't know what's going on. Other people can connect fine, and I can see other networks. Seems like the phone will do one or the other now, but not both. I haven't had this problem with my home network, but I'll check tonight when I get home and see if I have the same problem.
