i use WIFI all the time and just saw the issue this morning. woke up, turned my alarm off, left the phone off the charger for a bit and came back and it was in airplane mode. it wasn't in airplane mode when i woke up nor was I using/enabled WIFI.

it may have happened once before but i didnt' think anything of it. don't remember for sure. had the phone for about 6 weeks now.

sprint says they are aware of the issue but its in samsungs hands.

Could the airplane mode error be connected to the data roaming settings?

I have gone days without airplane mode..as well as getting airplane mode 3 times in one day....I think I have a theory on the day i kept going into airplane mode I was using Pandora to listen to music and each time the signal would drop out and pandora would give me an error that it could no longer reach the site......after that the phone would flip to airplane mode. I think it happens when the tower signal is low for what ever reason and i happen to be downloading lots of info.

(Maybe this is to prevent the chance of data roaming?)

Gotta change my vote. This Moment is cool as hell but SLOW at times, and as I was selecting and voting on my Moment on this forum, the answer it submitted was wrong. Buttons reacted so slowly I couldn't stop it in time. Damn! I HAVE used WiFi and I HAVE had the "airplane mode" problem, just 30 mins ago for the second time. 'X' in the signal bars, not moving, airplane mode was "on" when I checked, but taking it out of airplane mode did not cure it. Soft reset both times cleared it up. WiFi indicator still showing connected.

Phone plugged in, WiFi turned ON, connected to Sprint MiFi, WiFi switching app widget installed, good reception but busy locally due to massive snowstorm right now.

Good news. If the wifi was still working (though there's a difference between it showing 'on' and actually working, so please clarify), then you likely didn't have the airplane mode problem, but rather, no service.

My Wife's Moment started going into airplane mode before the upgrade to 2.1, and is even more freqent since. we do use WIFI regularly. The phone will go into airplane mode wether WIFI is on or not. It also seems to be linked to charging. When charging overnight it is always off in the morning. Also the data services will quit when surfing or watching you tube randomly, but will still make calls. Have also had the phone "lock up" when making call. eg. it will not hang up the end key becomes unresponive. Getting ffrustrating, we just ditched the palm pre because of problems! Seems that 2.1 has caused more problems than it fixed.

Hey everyone... I just came across this thread and figured I'd post even though no one's posted in a while. :)

I've had my Moment for a little over a month. I have the latest upgrades and everything and airplane mode has randomly turned on for me 3 times in just over a month.... All three times were after accessing the "Wireless and Network Settings" menu. Here are detailed descriptions:

1) The first time it occurred was the day I bought my phone, I tried using wifi in my house and about an hour later I realized I didn't have any signal. Since it was a new phone, it took me a while, but I finally got back to the network settings menu to find that airplane mode was on. I unchecked the box and waited for about 2 minutes but the box remained darkened and gray like it was still trying to shut of airplane mode. The only thing I could do was take out the battery and reboot. Airplane mode finally shut off.

2) A couple days later, my phone entered airplane mode after I accessed the "Wireless and Network Settings" menu.. BUT!! I never toggled any of the wifi options. I simply scrolled down the menu and back to the top WITHOUT SWITCHING ON WIFI or checking any other boxes. I hit the back button on the phone and within 5 minutes the phone entered airplane mode!! Maybe this one was a fluke, but I definitely know that I did not check/uncheck any boxes in that menu and the phone STILL went into airplane mode...

3) The third occurrence was last night/this morning. I had accessed wifi at around 4PM and shut it off around 5PM.. I still had a signal at 11PM when I fell asleep. I woke up at 7:45AM this morning (even though I should have been at work at 6AM). :( My power had gone out so my alarm clock didn't go off and when I looked at my phone.... "NO SIGNAL" so of course I didn't wake up to all of my boss's phone calls. YIKES!! I searched through my phone a bit and sure enough.. airplane mode was on.

4) ANOTHER THING JUST HAPPENED AS I WAS TYPING THIS POST!!! O_o I accessed the "Wireless and Network Settings" menu and switched on wifi. I then turned it back off and didn't touch anything else, so it let the screen time out so it went black. 10 seconds later.. it displayed "Samsung" with a loading bar going across the bottom of the screen. It "loaded" whatever it was doing and the screen went black again.. I pressed the red "end call" button.. NOTHING. I held down the "end call" button and it went through the process of powering on the phone!?!? It turned my phone OFF after accessing wifi!!!!!

Alright, there are my horror stories.. As you can imagine, I'm very angry and I am going to Sprint today at 10AM when their doors open to discuss this very annoying problem with them. I've had the phone for over 30 days so I probably can't return it... :( But I will report back with my findings :)

I've never been able to replicate the problem in anyway. Every time it has happened to me has been over night while my phone was charging. I'd wake up and have to reboot my phone.
