Help Auto brightness App?

Are there any apps out there that could be used to increase the aggressiveness of the autobrightness? I feel like it could be dimmer indoors/at night, which would result in battery savings.

I know I can change the brightness manually, but that can be a problem if the screen is dim, I go outside, and want to change it. The automatic control would be ideal if there was a slider that allowed us to control how aggressively it acts.

I have been using this for quite a while now and can read/see the phone indoors on 0-15%
You can use it to quickly adjust brightness for any situation.

Thanks for the replies, but I'm not looking for a manual setting for the brightness. I can do that now.

What I'd like to do is be able to tweak the way the autobrightness works so that it would be more useful to me, and as a benefit improve the battery life.

I'm guessing that autobrightness varies the screen between 50% and 100% depending on the light, and I'd like to be able to lower the 50% down to something much lower, especially in darkness, and have it work automatically.

I think that Juice Defender Ultimate has the ability to do exactly what you are describing on certain ROM's (I think the AOSP based ones) but, you have to be rooted for that.
Under brightness, levels, light sensor & night tint, I believe...
That's the only thing I know of that works like that...
 
I know this is another manual brightness control app, but has been working really well for me.
It goes so low you can totally black out the screen...

Just search the market for "screen filter".
It saves battery better than the curvefish one.

That's right if you press the triangle with the dots on it in the upper right hand corner it allows you to share or copy and paste the direct market link.

In htc sense when in the all apps drawer hit menu and share will come up with a list of all your installed apps & let you give a personalized app recommendation via email, text message and so on.

It will type up a little message like, "I have been using.... Blah blah blah.... And I think you might like it. " Then it shows the market link.

I had the hTC Wildfire when this app sharing .Apk was new on htc sense, and so that's why I remember it.

BTW, this screen filter is real battery saverwhen used in conjunction with the curvefish widget.
I got the curvefish on 16% and the screen filter and 25.5 right now indoors and it is just right.

The auto-brightness feature in Juice Defender Ultimate now works on un-rooted phones - working well on my Inc2 and, as you say, it's easy to adjust the brightness curve. Of course there are many other useful features (and very affordable).

My app was the first to offer custom auto brightness. It works better than the competition, it's just that they have lower standards and thus will happily leave off 'beta' tags to attract more customers. The reason I call my app a beta isn't because it's unstable, but because it hasn't captured the entirety of what I envisioned it to (e.g. dynamic night mode).

I also offer full refunds at any time after purchase, so there's little risk involved.

I just installed the free Lux Auto Brightness - so far so good. Can you outline the differences between the free and paid versions? Also, is there a detailed help/FAQ for the advanced features? Thanks!

Edit: Just found the "tour" which does a nice job of explaining the features. By the way, I notice the same bug when using Lux AB that exists in the Juice Defender Brightness feature; when either is enabled it's not possible to install apps from the Amazon Appstore (Google Market is not effected). The Juice Defender folks have not resolved it yet - maybe you can? In JD it's necessary to temporarily disable the Brightness feature as a workaround. I haven't confirmed yet, but hopefully disabling Lux AB in the advanced settings will also work. It would be helpful if Lux AB could be easily disabled via the widget to deal with this issue until there's a fix.

You can add the Amazon Appstore to the compatibility list by going to settings -> 'advanced' -> 'compatibility list'. That should solve that issue.

The difference between the free and paid version is the scope of available settings (you'll notice that some settings in the free version ask you to upgrade). For example, you can't link subzero brightness in the free version.

With compatibility enabled (I had turned it off when experimenting) and the default "package installer" entry I can install from Amazon, so problem solved.

With the Inc2 I'm getting much more response from Lux when set to use the camera instead of the sensor. I wonder if that's generally true for this phone? The camera can't be used in dynamic mode, but "adjust on wake only" seems to do a good job.

I'm enjoying the extra features in the paid version (need to find my telescope :)).

Edit: Here's a small issue; when I hold the phone in the usual way the back camera points down and light readings are low. Any possibility Lux could take readings from the front facing camera since that light level corresponds with viewing the screen?
