Root Autokiller Memory Optimizer and CM7

Okay, since I have been rooted... it's been a while now. I have used Autokiller Memory Optimizer with most of the ROMs I have used. Now that I'm on CM7 with Condemned's S2H would AMO be of any benefit now?

It sounds like a task killer. If that's the case, then you'll want to read this article:

Why you don't need a task killer

While Autokiller can be used to kill tasks, it is primarily not a task killer, but instead adjusts Android's internal memory management settings so that Android will, for example, keep a larger chunk of RAM available by inactivating (not killing) background tasks when there is not enough RAM.

I don't think that there is a cookie-cutter, yes or no answer to this. For the way that I use my phone, I find Autokiller no longer necessary on a CM7 ROM, and I do not use it. However, it may be true that it will work better for you.

Try it. When you install it, note the defaults (I believe that Autokiller shows them) and then you can always reset to default and uninstall Autokiller.

Ya, I'll try it I remember xtrrom had some scripts that did much the same functions. I was mostly curious if something similar has been adapted inside cm7 to do the memory management even better.

Update, I installed it and have the preset on optimal. To be honest I really can't tell if it's helping or not.

Things are running very well. But now here's my dilemma. How do I justify buying a new phone when my Eris is running so well? ;-)

Must.

Buy.

More.

Android.

Devices.

...aaaaahhhhgggg...can't resist....HTC Droid Eris, Moto Droid X, Moto Xoom...

(I'm guessing there's a subliminal boot animation that is hypnotizing us all ;) [or at least me, anyways]).

I noticed that launcher pro that comes with gsb cm7 eats major ram. you have to set its memory usage to light or even less otherwise there is no ram left for apps. app switching becomes almost impossible because they get closed. check the memory prefs in launcher pro. the little eris doesn't have much ram.

I always set ADW scrolling cache to low quality.

Let Android takes care of Background apps

Yes, if you use Autokiller, you are doing exactly that. You are altering the memory thresholds that Android's memory management uses from the stock settings of the ROM that you are running, but it is Android's memory manager that is managing memory.

I am actually using Autokiller on CM7 to make Android close background apps less, not more, as I have been having background apps close unexpectedly with stock settings.
