Root [Avail] [ROM] Ice Cream Scamwich 2.0! 3/17

i got it working on mine. it said not installed but i went in my app drawer it was there. Maybe try clicking on it in the /app folder and yes to replace.

there's one .png that does the background for TONS of apps. If the developer fdidnt set a background and left it system default, it will be blue. you could switch it out, but it does settings,contact,s phone, third party stuff. pretty much everything that's that blue color.

all you have to do in this rom is use 7-zip and switch "mybackground.png"; in framework-res.
 
You were right, it says it not installed but is there in app drawer and working!! About the background color, I found the "mybackground.png" inside the folder "\system\framework\framework-res.apk\res\drawable-mdpi", I changed the color with the paint on windows and replaced the "mybackground.png" and then I reinstalled the 2.0 and it worked! Thank you very much!! Everything you said worked like a charm! Thank you again!
 
Just thought I'd pop in after re-installing Scamwich2. Worked like a charm again. Didn't have root issues this time. Had a WiFi issue after installing a bunch of apps. Restart fixed it. No issues :) IMO, this ROM is a MUST for this phone.
 
I spoke too soon :) I have run into an issue; with the camera. The filenames (and thus the EXIF dates) are shown as 2002. It seems this is/was an issue for other users as well:

Also, is there geotagging with the ICS camera?

It's not just the ICS camera. I got CameraZOOM FX since it was highly rated and the date taken is still 12/8/2002 12PM. I have no idea if this happened with stock firmware or not. Any ideas or are you all out? :)
 
that's a weird quirk. my pics save as the right date and time, but in quickpic if i check details its old. I never checked it on stock do I dont even know if it ever was right.

yeah this is vbuilt off the merit, so its 2.3.5 and the avail is 2.3.4.

Carrier IQ was dropped from 2.3.5, so it never had it, but your phone's carrier can monitor your data usage no matter what we do.

its already rooted, so you dont need that, and Im working on a 2g/3g toggle in the Lidroid panels for the next version.

aha, I also noticed that it says 2.3.5 - was wondering either it's just a trick to fool auto-updates or another ver.. thanks for clarification and though there are still some minor issues your fw is definitely the best for this little phone. Please keep up the good work ;)
 
hi, everything seems to work perfect except that when I wake the phone, it always go straight into the dialer app. No matter what app I was on before the phone slept, it just has to go to the dialer app before i press the back button to go back to what I was doing. Is it a setting I have to put of or a bug?

EDIT: Not everything. Gmail keeps crashing and youtube too.
 
Dialer thing I never heard of, so must be your phone, try turning the lockscreen on and off.

Seems google has put out a new play store again. So all the youtube/gmail/play store stuff is being obnoxious.

There had been random "fake Force closes" with the play store(it says it has to force close, but it will still stay open and keep downloading stuff just fine). So hopefully I can iron that out here soon. It was more of an annoyance than a problem, but this new play store thing is gonna be a pain.

I actualy went into that google settings app and turned on ads and the FC stopped for a while. I dont know where google is going with all this crap and tying in everything to their play store but its more iPhone than android if you ask me.

im testing out the new play store and some other stuff as i get time, but ive start building apps, and that takes up all my limited free time right now. but ill try to give it a look.

I dont have issues, but maybe that could help you out.

Also, anyone who does NOT wipe their data before they install this ROM, I won't troubleshoot anything for you, cuz that is probably the reason.

Thanks for this rom. :) So far, it seems to work fine.. except for one thing on my phone, which is the Avail. My 3G data doesn't work, but wifi connections work fine. The first time I tried to sign in with my Google account, it told me my phone was not provisioned for data use.. or something like that, yet I can run the USSD code to check my available data and it says I still have 22mb. I realize that doesn't access 3G, but it does tell me I'm not out of data.

Is there a way to provision my phone for this? Or is there some minor difference between Merit and Avail that won't allow me to use my data plans with this rom? Might have to switch back to stock again. :(
 
Well yes and no :rolleyes:.

The new play store is working fine, but youtube is being dumb. And the Phone.apk is a nightmare with these phones, so the toggle was driving me nuts.

So I took a break for awhile and thought I should teach myself apps. :confused:

i learned a whole ton of stuff which should be helpful. and I am getting frazzled with this stuff, plus work, so i think I need to go back and redo a couple things with this ROM soon. so i plan on having an update soonish (hopefully).

Did you try toggling the Data on and off? Data works on Avails.
 
OK guys and gals.

So I've officially dug my apk multi-tool out of its dusty folder and got back to work on redoing some apks.

I have a few things in mind im working on, got the dumb google apps all sorted out, added pngs for the brightness toggle, etc.

But i wouldn't mind anyone's suggestions on what i should work on.

not saying I'm going to do every idea, but it'd be cool to hear what people are looking for.

What about a super trim version? Is the Music.apk really necessary? I use Winamp exclusively and got rid of the Music.apk but after doing so, constantly got a Force Close message for Music. Audio still worked in everything. Weird behavior of missing files or something, I have no idea.

Why I ask is that while I use Link2SD, there's not a whole lot of room left on the phone's memory. I tried installing Netflix again to see if it would work this time (Facebook took about 3 installs before it did...) but before the download finished it stopped and said "invalid package". Then I had no space left on the phone and everything was crashing. Tried clearing the store and download data; nothing. Tried clearing cache and dalvik-cache; nothing. The failed Netflix download still took up the remaining space on the phone and caused programs to crash. Luckily I had a backup from the day before and reverted.

So, yea, are there any extra things to remove to make for more room? Maybe a full-featured ROM and trim ROM? I'm pretty sure I uninstalled a few apps from your 2.0 ROM and right now, I'm not having any issues.



Another request would be to have the IceCreamDream overclocked kernel included. I tried to use it with Scamwich but WiFi always sat at "Error". Using stayboogy's 777MHz kernel works fine without issue, it would just be nice to push the CPU a bit further.



I'll think on it some more. It's great to see you're still wanting to work on this project :)
 
You should try setting winamp as a system app. my phone is more mp3 player than phone so I need something :D . The system uses music for more than just music, so it needs something.

Im prob gonna include stayboogys script that moves the dalvik around so theres a bunch more room.

And i dont know what i did, but i was running Link2Sd with 40 downloaded apps,BIG ones (facebook, pandora, twitter, instagram, MX player + codec). And I had some room. Then last night half asleep I fugged up and erased my sd-ext.

So im starting over and running out quick.

And I was going to put back the original overclocked kernel I was using. Cuz I do miss zipping along on this little phone.

I'm showing 46MB free with 44 apps according to the Play Store. I'm not sure where the 46MB came from, I recall it was lower when I tried to install Netflix.

What are the benefits of setting Winamp as a system app?

I know you changed something with the battery icon, I'm wondering if you can get rid of it entirely and swap it out for Battery Widget Reborn? It's more accurate (1%), has more info and is very holo themed :)
 
I was getting out of memory with just facebook and pandora(plus a couple small things) on, but I fixed it and am loading back everything on and have room for days. :D

I went into Link2Sd, brought up the menu, then hit "More", Then scrolled to "Clean up Dalvik Cache".

hit that and boom, went from 13mb free to 60 free and i still have 90% free on my partition. So if anyone else has that issue of not so much room even though you have a partition, try doing the clean up.

If you get "music force close" after you deleted the music.apk, then setting winamp as system might stop that.
 
This is an AMAZING Rom, however I have encountered two issues.
1. Sometimes the text beside a checkbox doesnt show up.
2. Apps are automatically denied superuser permissions without even asking me
Can someone please help me?

Go into Superuser and update the su binary, that seems to help. Once that's done, go into the settings (wrench) and set Automatic Response to Prompt then you can allow it manually and have it always allow.

As far as the text boxes, I've seen a few that are hard to read (black text on dark dark blue background) but it seems to be different for every program.
