Root [Avail] Zte Avail root help

Nate321

Lurker
I cannot get my avail z990 to root no matter what I do and I even followed the official guide to root and it kept failing so if someone could help me out I would really appreciate it :).

I have the Merit but should be able to help. We need more info tho. Have you tried the Complete ZTE Merit Guide? Where did you fail? What all have you tired?

No I have not done the merit guide, I failed when I tried pushing the su and I kept getting a stat error. Superoneclick, z4root, the official zte avail root guide

It is a long thread but you really need to read it all we covered your problem well on page 5 & 6. It was first explained in post 113 & 114 tho.

Nate, do the t-card update, put in the dialer code, it will tell you "wait a moment for root". That's all there is to it. Get Superuser app from Playstore and in it hit tap to update. You're rooted.

I also have an avail. I wish there was an app to make this easier or super one click, etc, would finally support this phone.

The z990 is very easy to root. Just put the t-card zip in a folder called "image" on the SD card. Go to about phone, updates, and hit OK. Wait til its done and booted, put in the dialer code. It doesn't get any easier. The one clicks stopped working when 2.3.4 was introduced.

Where is tcard.zip. And if I screwup or need service will factory reset unroot me and back to normal so nobody can tell I ever rooted in the first place.

The link is in thread "git hub is now up", last post by Motorhead. After you use the t-card update, install CWM Recovery and make a nandroid (backup), BEFORE ANYTHING IS DELETED. It can't be stated enough how important the nandroid is.

I don't see that thread here. Can you just post the link here?? And I Use "my backup pro" for backups. And "app backup" and restore. So I don't need backup. Can't I just factory reset f I screw up or that won't fix anything??

CWM makes a backup of the entire phone. IDK if those apps do, but, CWM makes a complete copy of everything in the phone and stores it on the SD. Plus, alot of mods are performed through CWM.
The thread is in the Avail-all about root forum. I use Phandroid app to get on this site, so I can't post links. In thread headings, look for "git hub is now up". A month old or so.

It reboots by itself when it's not

Ok before that need to tcard update. I finally found it but it won't load. I made image directory and put zip in it but not working.

It says "Do not find package on storage card, please confirm that update package has been copied image directory on storage card!"

Make "image" folder at root (first layer) of SD card. Put t-card update zip in that folder. The zip should be about 122-125mb. Once its there, go to settings in phone, about phone, check for updates, click OK. Anthony started a thread last spring with everything in it and how-to's. This ONLY works for the Avail z990, NOT the Merit z990g. That's where the phones differ.
If the dl is corrupt, or you unzip it, it won't work. Put unzipped zip in "image" folder.
Edit- to install CWM Recovery, you have to get root first. CWM isn't an app, its replaces factory recovery mode with more options. It is a neccessity to get in the phone in case of a mistake made by deleting needed apps.

It is 247.4mb file. Problem is no matter how I name the file it doesn't work. It says did not find file in ststem updates on phone.

I found the image.bin in the tcard update zip. I uploaded it to my image folder and now I'm good. Was able to update tcard. Now I type

Dial *983*7668#

on my phone and when I dail that number I get "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
