Root Back to stock

Hi,
There is NO way that file wants to go in the PDA/AP box. I have done all that you have shown me. All I get when I try to drag/drop or copy/paste is a black circle with a black line across diameter- it won't go.
Too late to do it now, but will download the S4 stock software YET again tomorrow. I am not a sammobile priority member, so it takes ages.
Phone comes up with sim card removed error sometimes as well- when wife was using the S4. I changed the sim/sd card holder, but it still does that. Phone not reliable, so I bought her a Moto G4-2016. She is happy with that.
The S4 is virtually worthless here now, so will not sell a unreliable phone on. So now a practice phone.
Thanks for your help

The original file that you downloaded should've already been in either .tar or .tar.md5 form which means you don't extract it. Just stick the whole compressed file in the AP/PDA slot and it should work.

Whether extracted or not, it still won't go in AP box.. Have tried older Odins too---3.09 and 3.07---still no go.
Have you got to have debugging turned on ??

Looking at your pictures got me thinking maybe it's a cross-platform issue. Not really sure of this but it is a possibility. Did the phone receive an OTA update at all during the time you've had the phone?

One other thing I can think of is Kies interfering. Kies and Odin don't play well together. Try deleting Kies from PC but keep USB drivers then restart pc and try Odin again.

Looking back over your PC screen shot trying to figure out your file path. Which drive do you have the firmware file saved to?

Put both files into my C drive DOCS, in a new folder.. They were on D drive. ( I have SSD on C and hdd on D ).
AP box finally got it's butt in gear and eventually got a PASS. The phone rebooted, but it only gets as far as the blue notification light going bright and dim, and the Samsung logo stuck in middle of screen. Can't do any more tonight as battery is going down

Had pretty much the same situation on my S3 that I reflashed. Pulled and replaced the battery and booted into recovery and did a factory reset. Rebooted and it went into the system without a hitch.
Give it a try after battery charged.

Hi,
Went back into recovery- factory reset. There was a list of NO's and one YES. Not sure about that, so left them and clicked on reboot and it's still the same. Didn't know if you had to change NO to YES.
The ONE yes said to wipe all user data---user data is what I put on the phone, I take it ?

Odin flash should have wiped all user data anyway. When you boot into recovery, use the volume down button to scroll to factory reset then press power to select.
It will ask if that is what you really want to do.
Gives you a chance to change your mind.
Scroll down to yes and press power to select. Once reset is complete, you should then reboot.

I have waited up to 10 min on first boot after flashing to give the phone time to sort itself out.
More than 10 min and still hung on the Samsung logo, do a factory reset in recovery.
Still a no go after another 10 min then flash again with Odin.

Just ordered one of these for S4- to get over "sim card removed error"- I hope. Then it's up for sale. I tried to put a link to Amazon item, for a Samsung S4 simcard/SD card holder, but it didn't work. You get the idea though, lol.

In the meantime, I have been looking at putting Nougat on one of my S3's. I use one with 6.01 on it for when I go out on the bike- Note 4 too big to go in pocket. so will try to put it on the other one which has Bliss Pop 5.1 as OS.
No proper working Nougat rom at the moment.
Bliss pop 5.1 phone now back to Resurrection Remix 6.0.1 again.
