back up system app before flashing a new ROM

Hello. I'm new to the forum and still finding my way around so I apologise if I'm not in the correct place. I have decided to root my Galaxy Nexus and install a custom ROM. I am fairly comfortable with the rooting process and flashing the ROM as I have previous experience with my old (and missed) Nexus One. However when I changed the ROM on the Nexus One I lost the built-in document viewer that came with it. I ended up having to install separate pdf and word doc viewers from the market which were ok but perhaps not as good as the stock apps. I don't want this to happen this time and I am researching ways to preserve it. Having had a mooch around the phone and a general internet search I believe that the Gnex comes with a built in app called

Rxpert83 thanks for your reply. Is it really that simple? I had assumed that it would not show up for a back up app like titanium as it is buried within the system and not stored with my other downloaded apps. Does it therefore have the capability of backing up individual system apps of my choice aswell as personal downloaded apps? If I can back it up without moving it first that would be fantastic. I shall be giving titanium a closer look if it is capable of doing that. Thanks for the tip!

II've never explored it but TiBu does have an option to convert this type of thing to a user app (assuming you mean a system app). Long press on the app in question to see the option. I would absolutely positively recommend a nand backup prior to attempting this so you can return to you current setup if things don't go well.

iowabowtech thanks very much for the extra info. Although it's not a disaster if the app goes missing like it did last time a nand backup (or any backup) is an absolute necessity and a habit I'm happy to continue. Thanks again for your reply.
