Help backing up my gs3

I need to send my GS3 in to Samsung to get the screen replaced (burn in) and they told me that they have to erase everything on my phone. Is there some kind of all in one backup solution that will backup everything, down to settings and which screen app icons are on?

So when I get it back, I restore and it'll be exactly like before my phone was wiped out? Home screens, icons, apps, folders, everything?

Unless someone who has actually DONE this can confirm this, I would not count on that.

Backups need ROOT access to read everything and to write everything. Unless Kies runs as ROOT, it's going to suffer from the same backup limitations as the backup apps.

My phone is rooted, is that what you are talking about, or do I need to check the settings in Kies?

Thanks :)

I use my back up pro. I think there is trial version for 1 month, I will consider that. Play with it for a bit. It saves everything, including text messages, conversations, and everything. Like you said even the set up of your apps.
I dont even think you need to be rooted to use my back up pro( I could be wrong tho, but I dont think so)

:)

A lot of people would also recommend titanium back up. I have never used it, but I know it is a pretty popular one amongst rooted devices

If you are rooted then use Titanium Backup Pro or create a Nandroid backup.

Having said all that - make sure you unroot before you send it off (and reset the flash counter) otherwise Samsung might charge you for the repair as officially rooting voids warranty ..

if ure phone is rooted the simplest way is to go to recovery mode(boot and press hone and volume up) and select backup and make a nandroid backup(assuming you have clockwork mod installed) of ure phone it will backup everything exactly the way it is and u can just copy the folder to pc and restore it backup.

Won't simply copying the complete contents of your phone to your PC and then copying them back to the new phone do the trick? Pardon my ignorance, but I have never done this which is why I'm asking.

Use Titanium Backup to backup apps data. Then, just do a Nandroid backup from the recovery (ClockworkMod Recovery, TeamWin Recovery, etc.). This backup is basically an indentical image of how your system is as of now, so yes, homescreens and anything else will be backed up. Once you've done it, just copy the backup file that is generated and save it to your PC.

Edit: if you restore the nandroid backup all your apps will be there, so don't worry. Titanium is just a "back up plan" in the unlikely case your nandroid has some kind of issue, this way, you can get your apps, at least.

No mate, you need to find an unroot guide.
Also, recieving an update will unroot it.
Do you have to use the guarantee?

No idea about the guarantee :/ All I know is I called Samsung and told them I have burn in on my screen, the tech told me I can have the screen replaced free of charge, I don't even have to pay for shipping, because there's a one year warranty on the phone.

yes but the one year warranty is void if u have rooted the phone. You would need to un root it and reset the counter before sending it back.

I can unroot it but what do you mean by reset the counter? Honestly the only reason I rooted it is because the default music player app would always always start playing music through my car's bluetooth audio after I'd end a call even though I was playing music through poweramp or spotify right before the call came in. It drove me nuts and the only thing I could do to prevent it from happening is root the phone and delete the app. I work with technology so I wasn't scared to root it, I can follow directions lol, but I'm not all that familiar with all the terminology.

It WOULD -- if you could still do that. I was able to do that on an older HTC phone running Gingerbread. But, USB Mass Storgage was REMOVED in ICS, so, without ROOTING, that option is no longer available.

This is the FLASH counter.

There are different ways to root your phone -- some involving Flashing, some not. IF you used one of the latter non-flash ways, the FLASH counter would not have been changed.
