Root [BACKUP] Sprint FG11 stock-rooted+

Hahahaha, sorry folks. I wasn't receiving email notifications like I normally do, so I was unaware of the conversation(s) going on.

Loota, thanks for the analogy on the ram dump; that explains why more peoplle come away from it than don't.

I can't say for sure why su and rom toolbox aren't working very well, but I will admit they are a couple of the apps I used to create the backup. I assumed they disappeared after I did a data wipe from CWM because I didn't see them after I rebooted my phone. I do know I had a problem with something else not working on my phone's current image, though, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the problem app and all's well now.

As for how I got the baseband to be included, I used Loota's SPRINTSTOCK image to flash back to root, and then the system update did all the rest. Then all I did was follow the directions to Odin CWM back on, and used it to root and add the kernel.

....Did I leave anything out?

EDIT: Also, it seems my home internet is acting up, so that could be part of the problem as well.

well I uninstalled the su app and reinstalled it like 20 times and it was a no go :(
Edit: this is so frustrating

I bet. How is su not working? Is it fcing, or is it just not doing anything? If it's option #2, then re-installing the kernel may help, though I'm not sure why. I know on my phone su doesn't seem to do more than take up space until I've installed BobZhome's kernel for some reason.

su will fc on occasion but for the most part it launches to a white screen and rom toolbox just goes to a black screen. im gonna see if other root apps have issues

EDIT: it seems that after i tried running TiBU, it halts at the same spot as otehr root apps but it has a screen that says "asking for root rights" so would this indicate that the image actually just isnt rooted and thats why we're having issues with corresponding apps?

Yeah, it could be that the data/cache/dalvik wipe I did just before saving the image broke a few things, since su, rom tooolbox and the like reside within data. Doing a factory reset after installing may help; unfortunately, I just don't know enough at this time to say for certain.

after i posted that i tested it and did a factory reset and then tried running su and rom toolbox and whatnot again and to no avail. tho i did manage to get su booted up fully once. if you can figure this out, maybe try a re-image with su and such built in then get it to run that way i still think its got a lot of promise for people who wanna tweak the TU instead of running a complete custom rom. i really really really like the idea of basically being stock gingerbread but with bobz kernel and the 2.3.6 update tho. i wish i had more knowledge on this stuff so i could try to help but my forte happens to be computers and not phones. just keep at it and see what u can do

One idea I had was to create a dummy account, and include a couple apps that way. Another would be to move the apps to /system/app or the /data equivalent.

I know the first would work, but I don't know of any way to remove an acct without factory reset, which gets rid of the apps too.

I'm skeptical of plan 2a, because I've tried something similar before without much success. And I'm similarly unconfident about plan 2b for the same reason(s) I don't think 2a will work...

I'll try to find a solution, and keep everyone posted. However, I may not be able to actually post a fix or revision until the coming weekend, as I usually have a pretty tight schedule during the week.

Well I can open up the app and everything looks normal but when I try opening adfree or root explorer it gives me some error. Same with screenshot it

Sounds like you guys are missing the su binary in /system/xbin/ I will post an update that will install the binary for you with the busybox binary and superuser app and an edited install-recovery.sh to keep cwm. I made it a few days ago and then just forgot to post it. It should fix all the fc's here.

Xaelith, a good way to include apps is to pull the apps you want from /data/app or /system/app/ on a rom you use with your own account and put them on your sdcard. Then when making the rom you want to post go to that folder and click to install them from the folder you made.

Turns out I had it on my phone so I uploaded it.. hope it works for you guys..

Install it like an update zip not a rom.

Also fyi thanks to chevanlol360 and maverick.. I kanged (stole) a lot of their edify code for this.

so flash back to xailith's 2.3.6+root and then update the su binaries via Loota's upload via cwm, is that correct? if yeah then it shouldnt be hard to just make a backup of the rom at that state and re-upload it to this thread right?

How can I reboot into recovery mode?

Turn off the phone and hold the volume down while turning the power back on.

Oh I have to ref lash the from again? Cus all i did was flash the zip

i'm a step ahead of you good sir, and it still seems that root isn't working right....fcing etc. i can open superuser app now but its not letting me run anything with root access

That's the same exact problem I've been having. I can open the app but won't give me root access

As of right now with this image, the only way is to power off the phone, then hold the "volume down" button and the "power" button, letting go of the power button as soon as the Samsung logo appears, and not letting go of volume down until you're in CWM.

EDIT: Oops, looks like Loota beat me to the punch...didn't realize this thread had reached its second page

Yes I do, but I'm not currently using this image. I made the mistake of fully restoring my phone before the idea of creating this image came to me.

From the sound of the problems people are having, I may have jumped the gun a little too early on releasing this. As soon as I can, I'll make a revision and re-post it. As of right now, though, I've only got about 20 minutes before I need to leave for work :shot:

Ooh OK so we'll just have to reflash the from once you reupload the revised version. Its OK you can call in sick ;)
