Help Battery after JB update Cell Standby is high

qualm

Newbie
So after the Jelly Bean update I have noticed a significant battery life change and not for the better.

Screen is 30 Percent
Phone Idle is 27 Percent
Cell Standby is 20 percent

Why is my Cell Standby so high?

Any suggestions? All that I changed was an update to Jelly Bean. My phone is all stock.

cell standby is usually a result of poor signal. Click on cell standby and see if you have a high "time without signal". Also, if you click on the graph in battery stats, you'll see a line for 'mobile network signal'. This will show you what your signal has been like. Bright yellow is very bad, red is basically no signal. Anything in the yellow to red region is bad and can register as "no signal". A poor signal will kill battery as the phone boosts power to try to find a signal.

I can't find the "time without signal". The "Mobile Network Signal" is mostly a gray/brown color with green and yellow, now red though.

Disable Google Now. That's what I did and battery improved after JB update. I think Google Now must sit there and check things all day or something. I had terrible battery life after JB update, and disabling Google Now made it better -- go to Google Now, hit the menu symbol, and under settings there's a choice to disable it.

Google Now is disabled. You go down until the window pops up for google, then close the keyboard, hit the options thingy, then settings, and google now is set to off. I never enabled it from the update.

click on the line that says "cell standby" it will give you details. It will tell you "time on" and if there has been any, time without signal will be displayed as a %.

FYI, you can click on most of the items listed on the % page for more details. If you click on "Screen" it will tell you how long the screen was on, etc.

FWIW, I've seen the issue he's having. Happened to me the other night - full charge (100%) when I went to bed. 8 hours later I was at 83%. There was no awake time during the night as shown by the bars at the bottom of battery stats. Signal was fine - didn't show any reds, just the usual mild yellow. Did not have the problem the next night, and this is the same phone that's only dropped 5% over 8 hours consistently before JB. I'm not 100% sure what the cause might be (Google Now is off, obviously no syncing at the time), but I'll keep looking.

I've been debating turning off Google now as well.

My batrery ife has been horrible since JB.

drops 10% in 10 minutes of use.

Google Now was a huge hitter. My battery life is much better after removing it. Google Now tended to drop my battery 30% overnight.
