Help Battery Calibration and MAH questions

Hi Fellow Forumers,

I have 2 questions and hope that i could get a response to it

1) What is the good battery apps / widget that can show not only your battery power and usage graph, but also your battery MAH ?

2) What actually does battery calibration means and how do i achieve this. The steps to take to do this calibration thingy.

I just got my original Samsung S2 2000mAh with White cover.

did u fully charge ur phone the first time u bought it? what i did was charge it for 8hours (phobe off) the first time i got it. I know its hard not to toy around ur new gadget but it work quite well with me. So far im getting 1 day and a few hours of normal use.

What actually does battery calibration means and how do i achieve this.

Calibration is simply ensuring that the software "fuel gauge" accurately reflects the physical charge state of the battery. It's not something to be concerned about normally as it happens over time as you use the phone.

To reset the calibration process, power-off your phone, charge it fully, disconnect the charger, remove the battery for at least 90s, then replace and restart. It's then advisable to run the handset until it shuts down automatically due to low power, and give it another full charge. The "fuel gauge" should now be accurate whatever the level of charge remaining.

This is probably why Samsung advise a long initial charge for new devices. Batteries are stored partially-charged for longevity, and if used immediately will cause the software to misrepresent the charge level. Things will normalise over time, hence why many people see apparent poor battery life with new devices that dramatically improves over the course of a week or two.

Gemini Yun, Battery Monitor Widget does that for you. If lets you keep track of several batteries, measure their performance in several units using the free version. Ix you pay for the app it can do more. To calibrate the battery al you need you do is prepare by removing the back cover, the charge the phone, as soon as it beeps saying 100% pull the cable and pull the battery out so the phone completely losses power. Wait until 2 min then replace the battery. If it reads less than 100% Repeat the process until the phone recognises that the battery is at 100% Charge. This calibrated the battery

However Batter monitor Widget recognise all batteries as 1650
I read the reviews it even reads Galaxy Note batt as 1650 unless u upgrade to the Pro Version which i did for awhile to check the real status of my new battery ..It does read as 2020mAh and i uninstall it to refund

I now understand the calibration portion, thks to both, will do it.

1) Off Phone
2) Charge to Full
3) Remove Battery to approx 2mins
4) Put in Batt and ensure it is still at 100%
5) Run down back 0% shutdown
6) Charge back to 100%

One minor clarification:

5) Run down back 0% shutdown

When the phone powers itself off due to low battery, consider that as 0%. It won't be in reality but fully discharging a battery isn't good for it's long-term health.

Battery monitor doesn't assume all batteries are 1650mAH, when you add a new battery you enter a name and enter the name plate capacity ?? Then as you go it is comparing performance against that.

I have a 2450 mHA battery that BMW is measuring as 2013 mHA. I am not too fussed at the difference it only cost $7.50 or something.

sounds like cheap-low quality battery from ebay in terms of batt its really worth investing in high quality ones...

I do not think that anything you do to your battery, including charging it fully when new will greatly increase or decrease the performance or capacity of your battery.

Just use your phone and charge it at night while you sleep, repeat. You phone will pretty well take care of itself. Calibration should not be required unless you are having a problem so just relax and try to enjoy your new phone!
