battery charging time

Switched from the OV. Battery life for Evo seems about the same or a little longer. But what I have noticed is the time to fully charge the Evo's battery takes at least twice as long as the OV, or perhaps even longer, from a battery at less than 20%. Granted the battery has a slightly larger capacity, but it's certainly not a quick charging battery.
 
This. It's PAINFULLY slow. Definitely not something that you should put off doing. Also remember that the phone is new so the battery might need a break-in
 
I deep cycled it twice to get a better reading on my battery monitor app. Batteyr life seems awesome. Charging was pretty quick on the stick charger (4 hr I think) at 1A rate. I have some old chargers that are only 500ma so I would expect it to take a lot longer on those.
 
Charge from a charger, not USB it will go SOOO much faster. Also, when it reads full the first time, it's not. Leave it on longer.

As for battery life vs OV, it's much better once you get over the new toy effect.

4hrs is pretty lengthy to me. I have used extended batteries that charge up in that time. I guess your using the oem htc charger?
 
I've been running "Battery Monitor Widget" to keep track of what is going on in the Evo.

It does look like almost 4 hours from dead to 100%.

That is odd considering off the same chargers my Triumph could easily charge to full in about an hour. That was one feature I loved about the Triumph... If I could get it on a charger for just a short while I could get 20-40% put on it quick.

I guess the fact this thing will run about 4 days of standby time makes up for it though.

Personally it took me about 3 deep cycles to obtain the true battery life. At first I was like, are you joking? Then I was like, oh, alright, this isn't that bad. Still, the screen on this thing is SUCH a battery killer. But if you barely use the phone, the standby time is wild.
 
SOmewhere around the evo v thread I saw a link to a conversation where htc gave some tips to increase battery life. Goes like this:
To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly:
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour.
Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other
agents have seen a major difference as well.

That seemed to have helped me as well. At the very least, a full discharge and full recharge helps to reset the battery info for whatever ROM you're on, whether stock or otherwise.

Is this supposed to improve battery life on other brands of devices? Are you supposed to only do this procedure once or every time you charge your device?

I feel this is a universally helpful tip, as all phones need to know what the maximum and minimum voltage of the specific battery can be in order to know what the actual battery % is
 
Hey figured id get this thread backup and running.

Anyway so ive read this thread and my evo is about 2 weeks young andit takes about 7 hours to get to 90% and drains within 4-6 hrs i downloaded the battery monitor widget and will provide sscreenshots aftera few cyclesi have also turned the backlight down all the way and all radios off besides 3g
 
I'm running stock everything except the battery. I bought a 3400 Platinum extended battery made by Seidio off amazon for $9 shipped.
Mine charges up to 99% and then sits there with amber light for over an hour (maybe longer, never timed it) trying to get to 100% and a green light. I assume this is where the phone pumps as much juice as possible in there at a low current.

I have Current Widget installed, and it shows 125 mA of postitive current the whole time when it's at 99%...voltage is 4.223. When charging below 70%, I've seen it as high as ~900 mA of current. These phones charge slower and slower as the battery gets fuller and fuller.

Actually, to be honest, I haven't watched my EVO V charge as closely as my OG EVO (I've only had it for like 2 weeks now). The OG EVO definately draws over 900 mA when the battery is below about 70%. Somewhere around 70%, it starts dropping the current. I assume the EVO V does the same thing, but again, I am not certain of the threshold where it goes into a trickle charge.

If I remember to, I'll watch it closer, and I'll make sure that logging is enabled for the current widget.
 
Yea, well im going to try and drain the battery today so i can get a complete charge then ill do the htc tip in this thread to see if that helps as the battery monitor shows it charging to only 90% when t is drained ill ad the screenshots of bat. Monitor.
