Help battery door and charging issue..

I know other folks are having some other problems with this phone, but as a network engineer and all around tech I have narrowed it down to these two major items.

The Micro USB "tab" inside the phone is a poor design. People are going to use the phone while it is charging from time to time, and if there is pressure put on that tiny little tab inside the phone is is going to wiggle loose and break contact with the circuit board. The result is a phone that will not charge OR connect to a tablet or PC. Renders the phone USELESS.

The battery door design is just unacceptable. If I would have known that my battery door was going to fall off 5 times daily, I never would have bought it in the first place.

However, I LOVE the phone! It is a huge technological feat that we can get this kind of technology at all, much less for only a couple hundred bucks.

Because of how tightly packaged the unit has to be, it can be a bit fragile. However, It is a mobile device, and the manufacturer should have not taken shortcuts on those 2 items.

I expect more durability out of a Motorola product. Hopefully these two issues will be addressed on the next model.

I have never had either of those issues, I'd say return it for a new one. back plate is as snug as can be and as long as I use the cable that came with the phone to charge/mount I can move it every which way without any problems. however any other cable and I'm S.O.L. This phone is very picky

To be fair, this isn't really a Motorola product. This is a generic model that's had many monikers slapped on it. The official name would be FB0 or FD1. I believe it was designed by Huawei and manufactured by Foxconn (FIH).

I agree with you about the battery door. It's freaking ridiculous. If I don't have my case on and I take the phone out of my pocket, I'll almost always pull off the battery door. I even remember one time when I dropped my phone in its case and still the door came off (not a far drop either). I just heard a rattling in the case and it was the door that had fallen off. :(

That said, it's impressive that it came with a second-gen Snapdragon process. This in itself has opened a door to cool 3rd-party ROMs (CM7 and MIUI).

I think about everything rechargeable is made with a delicate recharge port. I can't tell you how many devices I've had to solder the port back to the board after extensive plugged in use.
As for the battery door, a case would solve that problem. The Rockfish case adds very little bulk to the phone... over priced though it may be. Can't really tell a case is even on it.

you need more padding between the battery and the cover. a folded up hundred dollar bill works perfectly.

Yeah, that way, if you find yourself in a jam, you have the cash to potentially get out of it.

As for cases, make sure the case permits pickup of the audio with the second microphone on the back of the unit used for noise cancellation (that little hole top left on the battery cover).

I personally don't think a case is necessary on this phone.

The Rockfish case has hole on back for N.C. mic, and I agree, case ain't necessary... unless you're loosing the battery cover occasionally, like the OP. Instant cure.

Yeah, the Rockfish case is pretty badass. It's actually a really good case considering it's just a soft rubber one. I've dropped my phone a couple times and my phone still looks like new.
