battery drain 2.2 update

Also, has anyone tried toggling "mobile data" on/off in an effort to conserve battery life?

I've got 3 main apps that I think are using mobile data frequently:

email -- set to push
Gmail -- set to push
fancy widget -- updates weather every so often

I'm assuming with "mobile data" off, these will NOT update until I turn it back on. That's OK for me cause I sit in front of a computer all day and if I want to check my email, I can do it on my computer.

Am I correct in assuming that mobile data kills EVERYTHING except phone calls/texts? Basically turns my smartphone back into a dumbphone?

Also, does anyone know what the difference is between this and toggling off the "sync" (circle-shaped arrows on widget)? I would think these were the same function. If I had to guess, I would say disabling sync ONLY disables email/gmail/maybe some app sync but leaves available other options (like web browsing).

Is this correct?

Turning off the data does make it more or less a dumb phone again. As for the Circle icon next to that option, if we are looking in the same place, mine says its for the auto rotation of the phone. Not anything with the syncing of it. Not sure where you are seeing the one you are mentioning

I've had batt life issues. Verizon has offered Samsung Droid Charge, HTC incredible 2, or Droid X 2 as replacement if I wanted. Any thoughts?

I don't know if this helps, but my Fascinate has been off charger for 4 days, 10 hrs, 46 mins, and I still have 50% on battery meter. Phone idle 19%, cell standby 38%, display 14%, voice calls 22%. Granted, I have a Samsung extended battery (and yes, my phone looks pregnant, but I choose performance over looks).

I did a factory reset after update to Froyo, not rooted, have 137 apps, use automatic combination of wifi and 3G, auto sync every 2 hrs (with Gmail, facebook, Accuweather, etc.), use a wall charger when I charge, average 6 texts/day and have about 10 widgets running on home screen.

I hope this info can help.

I gotta call B.S. here .......there's just no friggin' way!?!?!?!?!

I'm having the same problem since I updated to 2.2. My phone is dead by the end of the day, and I even have the brightness set as low as possible.

I have a friend in Verizon tech who says they've been getting a lot of complaints on the Fascinate's performance since the update. He recommended calling to get a replacement.

My phone can last anywhere from 4 to 12 hours depending on what I'm doing with it. I had bought an extra charger that comes with a battery with a Y split attachment that allows me to charge my phone and my extra battery at the same time (if need be). I usually charge the battery only and swap out so I'm always changing the battery once a day. I haven't had to keep my phone on the charger like I did in the past. I hope this will help a number of you out there so you can actually use your phone and not be stuck to a wall charging your phone constantly. I have enjoyed my phone since I bought this. Hope this helps.

Did the same thing. Bought a couple more wall chargers (we have a total of 6 now) ,an external battery charger, and two extra batteries (for a total of 4 between my wife and I).

I think all in all this extra stuff cost us around $40 -- all purchased from Amazon.

Since this, I've been able to leave the house every day with my phone fully charged and a fully charged battery in my pocket, just in case. This has allowed me to never really worry about my phone dying so I can actually enjoy my phone!
