Battery draining insanely fast help!

P

how do i get it to sleep more...is there a setting to force it more often?

You just have to put it down and not use it. Haha. If you have a high percentage for phone and screen on, that means you're using it. Maybe manually adjust your brightness to about 25% in settings.

Other than that, you may need to invest in a larger battery. I just bought the 1750.

No force sleep setting 25% is about what mine runs at. Only way to make it sleep more is to not play with it. Do you surf on it? I can talk for an hour and it does less damage to battery life then about ten to 15 minutes on the internet.

Some apps may interfere with your phone, giving it sleep apnea and causing it to wake up to fetch data. This includes synchronizing GMail and Facebook. Other apps may just start up and running for no reason.

You need to identify these apps and either change settings or uninstall them.

Task killer works well too.

0% without signal is perfect.

The battery widget from HTC - removing worked great for me - back to somewhat normal -

Still seeing AT MAX 3 bars - went into Walmart today and got NO BARS, NO SERVICE - that has never happened...

Other than that loving 2.1!!

Well the changes I did noted above seems to have improved the performance of my phone in general. Removing the haptic feedback has helped...and the last couple of calls did not experience huge delays like before.

It could very well be the Sense UI in 2.1v2 that were causing my issues.

So I did the airplane trick again since I had to reboot...still at 50% time without a signal. Does some signifcant time need to go by before it drops back to 0?

After doing the airplane reboot trick, my battery is far better than it was on 1.5. Don't know if that's a reflection of apps/settings or 2.1 itself, but my time without signal is now 0% and I am loving life.

you will need to do the airplane mode trick after every reboot

Okay...last time I saw, you had to plug the phone in for a charge and put it into airplane mode for a minute. Has it been discovered to work without having to do the charge part of it?

I've found that putting it in airplane mode then putting it to sleep for a few minutes does the trick. No need to plug it in.

Yeah, me too. I don't bother with the charging. I don't even leave it in airplane mode for all that long, either...just maybe 15 seconds. When you check your battery status after taking off airplane mode, it'll still be high, but it'll gradually decrease once your phone goes to sleep again.

Just wanted to report back - been rough couple of days at work so I haven't been on but all the help here on these forums ROCKS - having no battery widget has me BEYOND 1.5 battery life - the bars for signal, I think, is just a fluke as I have yet to miss a text/call - one thing I have notice with Eris 2.1 v2 leak - sometimes my sound cuts off for calls, music, etc - no rhyme or reason to it but I just reboot and I am good - has happened twice since I updated...no biggie -

NOW TO ENJOY THE 2.1 apps!!! I wish I could live wallpaper as my friend at work just got the Nexus One - it's F)(*$# TIGHT!

I have the 50% signal issue to....when you do the "airplane" trick, when does it wear off? Every time you charge the phone?

Only when you shut down and restart the phone. Other than that, you should not have the issue or need to use the fix.

Thanks, I still have a 100% awake time...I guess I need to get spare parts and see what the deal is?
Airplane mode is going to help with the "50% of time without signal" problem. If you are having 100% awake time, that sounds like a seperate problem.

I'm so confused....

Found this thread b/c my battery (Seidio 1750) started draining very fast recently. I can't even get thru a whole day with this new battery now but I did at first. I just installed 2.1 v2 last week and wondered if that had caused the issue? At the same time I also put the Battery Widget on my home screen - maybe that's part of the issue - I'll remove and test.

My confusion is with the 50% time without signal. I just checked that for the first time after reading these threads and my time is 50% but I NEVER have signal issues. I am fortunate to live in an area with great coverage, even inside the building where I work. So what exactly does this mean?

ETA: My awake time is pretty high too, almost 7 hrs. I have Spare parts and it tells me that K9 Mail is the highest bidder but when I tap it, it only shows the wake time at 12 minutes. I have it polling 1 email address every 30 minutes.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

i don't know what it means either, but ever since starting the airplane trick, i'm getting a ton more battery life.

btw....i've placed an airplane shortcut on my home screen....so i just click on it, then wait about 10 seconds, then click it again (turn it off), then voila; my "50%" figure immediately begins to drop, and is at 0% soon enough (again, whatever that means! lol. but it is doing the 'trick' of saving my battery time).

Are you running the HTC battery widget?

Well, I tried the airplane mode trick and removed the HTC battery widget.... We'll see if that makes a difference with my battery life. Is there a battery widget that reads battery life in % without draining the battery?

50% time without doesn't appear to have anything to do with whether you actually have signal. It's a bug in the software. I had signal the entire time I had the bug, and 50% is a little too consistent to be a real reading.

What is the difference between "Cell Standby" and "Phone Idle" for battery use in the battery information under the settings menu?

I checked mine and found:

Cell Standby: 48%
Phone Idle: 49%
Android System: 3%

Is this normal? Should the Cell Standby always be close to the Phone Idle?

Thanks!

edit: I'll add this info too:
up time: 13:09
awake time: 1:27
battery percentage remaining 80%

For those of you that are having battery issues I figured I would give my 2 cents. From my experience at home, I have a weak 3g signal. When I leave mobile data on it is continually having trouble staying connected and kills my battery very quickly. If I turn off mobile data when im at home and just keep wifi on my battery life is great. Just yesterday I had 25 hours shown of up time since phone was unplugged. Give it a try!

Also forgot to mention that I had a high percentage of the cell radio not having a signal as others have mentioned. Once I turned off mobile data at home that issue no longer exists.
