Help Battery Drains Fast

Agreed about the drain on the battery and signal strength see my previous message a few days back but he also said that his Android is running at 105+ degrees at idle. That is very hot. My phone runs at 85 degrees at idle even when the signal is poor.

As does mine....but the true test would be getting into an area where we could experience no signal time percentages close to his. I venture to say that the battery will heat up tremendously while searching for signal for a long period of time like that. I came from the BB platform and had an old BB Tour that would get very hot to the touch when searching for signal for a half hour or so. I used it as a hand warmer once while working in -30 degree freezer that was so enclosed no one could get cell service. :)

The threads on this site beg to differ. I won't even mention the people around me having the same reboot issues. No, this model has issues. As for the new LG coming out, I think I'm just gonna upgrade my DROID X on Verizon and not expect anything from this one. I only got it because of I am a low talk - high data user, and Boosts unlimited plan works for me.

Kamau im confused here. You state your a high data user but yet you also stated that you seldom use wifi. This is you right?

[/quote]I seldom use Wifi, and it's always off until I'm in a zone; I've done everything that has been suggested, yet I still get reboots when I am using an app more than a few minutes.
I have come to the conclusion that this phone is like the Motorola Xoom when it was first released, and just not ready for release yet. It's got the same issues for everyone, and that spells product malfunction. It has nothing to do with bad or corrupted apps, signals or anything else.
I'm sorry ZTE, but I will not be recommending this phone to anyone anytime soon. http://androidforums.com/zte-warp/446609-experienced-any-problems-zte-warp-2.html

Since you're a low minute high data user why don't you try virgin mobile and their phones? They are unlimited data but low minutes like 300 a month or something but their monthly rate is lower than boost's. I don't know if any of their phones are any good though.

One, they're also on Sprint towers so my signal strength would be the same.
Two, they are now throttling their data.

Agree with this post. Most of the time my temp is in the 80-95 degree (F) range. Sometimes it will go as high as 105, but that's usually because I'm using Wireless Tether. So, if your phone is constantly >100 degrees and you're only using internet, there's Gotta be something wrong with your battery, dude. Or maybe your charger (which f'ed the battery up)... hard to tell.

I already have the shipping label to send it back. I'm just waiting on my account to come up due (i just replenished it a week ago), as I don't want to send it in with money on the books.

Hope it resolves the issue or if you are returning it that you get a phone that works more consistently.
today i returned my first warp i do a exchange for other warp. i think is a hardware issue because mine first warp stop read the microsd , sometime don't recive txt and calls and last ting is reboot 4 times

Really not trying to convince you about this phone, I believe that your mind is made up and that is cool. You should go with the phone you like. But I really beleive that you have a hardware issue. I think your phone is faulty and needs to be replaced. As stated my phone is not acting the way yours does nor do the five people I personally know that have this phone. You mentioned that there are many problems with this phone but I would like to point out two things. 1. If you go and look at any phone on this website you will see just as many problems if not more with a majority of the phones out there. 2. These sites attract people that have problems with their phones or who want to learn more about their phones. So by nature you get the minority insight on this board.(i.e techies and their phones, and the defective phones and their unfortunate owners). Case in point out of the 50 people working at my company (which is a tech company) most of which have Android or I-phones I am the only one that has rooted his phone. My point is that there will be a higher concentration of problems listed on this site than what would normally be seen. Thousands and thousands of these phones have been sold and only about 20 (if that much) people have complained about their phones having problems like yours. Most complaints for this phone have been inconveniences that need to be addressed but are not serious. Serious issues like yours are a very low %. Does not make your issues any less real but also does not mean that the phone as a whole needs to be written off when so many people are not having issues. If the Warp was in general as bad as the phone you received then we would see hundred and hundreds if not thousands of complaints about your issues. Instead we get maybe a hundred or so complaints about the phone shutting down or rebooting every so often. Not fun but not earth shattering or really odd when it comes to Android phones.

I can agree with you up to a point. And that is, even if the number is low, compared to the amount of units sold, the pribkem(s) are all the same; restarts. That means that these few different people from different parts of the world, each using their phone with different apps and other stuff installed, are all experiencing the same problem due to a flaw in the design, and not just some fluke.
I would also hope that ZTE would jump at the chance to make this right, as product advertising is much more better using word of mouth, and that a up-and-coming company like them would rather have positive words than negative.

I don't have restarts but I think this phone just isn't very good with battery management. Compared to my Epic, this pup drinks it like water. I'm talking 3% an hour just sitting, 20+ per hour doing anything at all. The Epic used about half a percent when just sitting, and I have them set up almost exactly the same.

I am having the exact same problem with my fon. The 1st warp i picked up in november worked great. Until, the screen went black and didn't come back on that is. The one I have now has pathetic battery life. Removed all apps and reset fon and the isssue is still there. Im thinking the bug is with the fon and not the apps cuz my 1st one was phenomenal on battery life. Maybe if I complain enough, ZTE will shoot me a new one. I'll keep you posted.

I'm going to get the name & address of their vp of customer/consumer relations and shoot them a letter myself. I've done so in the past with other products, and have had success resolving the issue. I am not one to spend my hard earned money on a product, and have it to not perform at least half a**. I have found that when you contact upper executives, they do mostly respond favorably.

Battery life issues are apps related in almost 100%.

My ZTE Warp is working fast, stable, with good battery life, so I want to share that if possible.
Assuming your hardware is 100% OK, this is what I did:
1- Get my prhone:D.
2- Updated to latest OTA (Menu\Settings\About phone\System updates\Update Firmware).
3- Rooted
4- Get Titanium Backup from Market
5- Restore apps I had on my broken HTC EVO 4G:
GoLauncherEx, GoContacts, Go SMS Pro
SetCPU
Zimly (solved autostarting issue of stock music app)

SetCPU settings (very good battery life):
Main:
806-245 ondemand *Set on Boot
Profiles:
- Temp > 40C 245-245 PowerSave Priority 95
- Battery < 25% 245-245 PowerSave Priority 90
- In Call 768-368 conservative Priority 80
- Battery < 70% 806-245 conservative Priority 65
- Battery < 90% 806-245 ondemand Priority 55

Thats not a bad idea. I"ve only been with Boost for 7 months and am already down to $40 by being a pain in da ass on the phone and on their customer service website. If you speak to a rep. make sure u get a name/employee # and air them out via the customer service tab on the site if their customer service skills suck, or give them kudos if they deserve it. Their reps see all notes on your account and are much more helpful when they know they will be held accountable. I've used it 3 times and get a call back within 24 hrs each time.

In doing a lil research it seems like the problem is with the Gingerbread OTA. Below is a link I came across. Phone works better now. Hopefully a new battery will help even more.

I will, but I'm talking about ZTE, not boost. ZTE is the maker, and it's their butts I want.

Good luck wit that one. They are located in Dallas but I'd sware by the accent that I was talking to someone in China. From what im hearing on all the forums, the gingerbread OTA seems to be the problem which would make Google the real culprit. But yelling at people I don't know always makes me feel better so u try ZTE and imma stay on top of Boost. If we cant find a fix then we should all attack Google in mass. 2-3 hrs talk time is fricking ridiculous.

ZTE as you know is a Chinese company. So I would not expect getting much help if you have to go to higher exec outside the country. But good luck.

I agree. Although ZTE USA is in Dallas when I called them back to confirm the address, the person answering was clearly asian and said "Hello", like they were answering a house phone. Not that I have anything against asians but if someone speaks to you in somewhat broken english, having a detailed convo about tech support is probably gonna be pretty difficult.

That's where old school comes into play, and you write an actual letter. No email, fax or phone call, but an actual letter addressed to the VP of consumer relations or customer relations. Every corporation has one, even if the corporate headquarters is overseas. As I said, I've done this more than a few times, with mostly positive results.

Found a fix for the battery drain issue on my Warp. Android System was killing my battery and often taking 70%-80% of my phones battery so that the phone wouldn't last a day. Not sure if it will work for anyone else but this is what I did. I killed the phone and recharged overnight. In the morning, I downloaded auto memory killer optimizer from the market, then upgraded to the pro version ($3.24 ANDRS STUDIO). On the pro version I enabled Chuck Norris mode and killed the processes, Android system, gmail and google search along with a few others. I've been on battery for 2 hrs now and the only functions using the battery are:

cell standby 49% (Signal can be a lil sketchy in this building)
phone idle 38%
display 12%

Finally no freaking android system. Once again I have a phone I can actually use. After killing the apps using the pro version use the home key to exit. The settings wouldn't take when I used the back button. Let me know how it works for you. And yes I know Android System is a system app and normally restarts but apparently Chuck Norris is a pretty bad dude cuz the apps stay killed unless I open them. Not sure why this app keeps stuff dead and others I tried didn't (Task Killer, Autorun Mgr) but like they say, never look a gift horse in the mouth. If any issues pop up, I will post. Good luck.

Also Mad Props to GamingForever!! The app Equalizer by SA Labs is a MF. Thought my speakers were gonna blow, my phone was so loud. Thanks a million.

Do not purchase app if you are looking for a permenant fix on a non rooted phone. 1st update. Does not fix the problem permemantly. Battery life is much better but Android system restarted and I had to close it again. But the battery usage for Android System does decline. Guess I will keep killing Android system manually until i can ship my phone back to ZTE. Some of the functionality of the Pro app is designed for rooted phones. Im still 100% stock. If anyone tries it on a rooted phone, please post ur results. Dang I miss the good ole days of Froyo.

Killing apps is not advisable. You can possibly do more damage to the system because android is not windows. It's designed to run multiple apps and close others as needed.

It is truly a shame you and others have had bad experiences with the warp. I am one of the lucky ones and don't have much to complain about. The volume could be louder and the factory keyboard could be better. I haven't had any lockups. I have root and cwm beta 2 running on factory fresh B06. It is shameful that ZTE released something that is radically and randomly unstable. I think I will gladly keep my warp it has been great to me (knock on wood).
