Battery Drops like Ashley Simpson's Career?

Also, are the people getting like 10 + hours between charges only actually using the phone a couple hours out of the 10?

If I was to stream music with Pandora for 4 hours does it make complete sense that it would kill the battery?

How much time should I give it? It has been 5 days now for me and I am lucky to get 5 hours out of one full charge. It can shut off in as little as 4 and I don't think I am doing anything excessive on it.

No live backgrounds, GPS off, not too many widgets. Screen brightness set to low. I am running LP beta, flikie wallpapers w/ rotation, and beautiful widgets among others. I really don't have enough experience to know what could be draining the battery so quickly.

This is my first android phone and so far the battery life is not good. Others people in this forum are getting 10 - 12 hours on a single charge and I have to charge at least twice a day.

What should I do?

I am having the same issue, i have had the DX since last thursday. I have drained it but the battery barely lasts 5 hours. I mainly use Meebo, gmail, and Foursquare.

I'd be willing to bet that is the culprit. Go to running services and see how long thats been running. Things like this will NEVER let your phone truely sleep. I bet your awake time is close to 100%
Can you please reply to this? Where can you tell awake time? I can't find it and I'm wondering why you'd reference it in your reply if it can't be detected?

Just want to thank all you guys for the great suggestion of rebooting your phone! Here's my anecdote:

Yesterday I got to about 50% battery life at 4pm after being unplugged since 6:30am. Not bad, I thought, but could be better. This was moderate to light usage for me (25 mins of calls, 10 texts, push email, updating apps, looking through facebook and twitter, and watching some youtube). I'm doing this under smart-mode performance in Battery Manager.

After the reboot: 80% or more battery life!! :) It took another 6 hours or so to get it back to 50%!! That's with continued moderate usage pattern! By the time I went to bed at 11pm it was 40% and holding!! :D

Needless to say, I've NEVER had a smartphone with a battery as good as this one. And if the battery meter could be fixed it would be an even more AWESOME device. Too bad the update DIDN'T FIX THIS.

I'd also like to know where you (jreed2560) see awake time. AFAIK, you can only find up time on the Droid X.

**UPDATE*** It appears that the update did fix this, because now I reboot and I get the same percentage as before. However, I am hoping that the battery will last just as long as before the update!

I don't have a X to tell you, but I did have an Eris on 2.1 and it was in menu>settings>about phone. Scroll all the way to the bottom. there were two times one was up time (that was essentially the time since the phone had been powered on) and awake time (theoretically the time you used your phone, but if a program was running in the background it would prevent your phone from sleeping) . The percentage is calculated as the percentage that wake time/up time. Again this is on the Eris. But if you download a program called Spare parts. It has a very indepth battery history and battery usage options to show you what is using CPU cycles, partial wake usage, etc.....

Right. It's not native on the X. This is because the Up Time stat is something found natively on primarily HTC devices. Not this one. It's like the widget on the incredible and evo to turn off 3G and go to 1X.

Again, not so on the Droid X. I don't know if the original Droid is any different.
Spare parts is the only way to go for us in this regard.

Thanks for clearing that up. We were all very curious to know where you found that on the X! :)

I was talking to my VZW rep yesterday, and he said that how you charge your X makes a big difference. Connecting it to a computer's USB port is only about 300mA compared to the wall adapter which I believe puts out 1000mA. So apparently, you get a fuller charge when using a higher powered USB port. It makes sense because I've noticed a better charge on my older phone when using the wall plug.

So if you are having battery problems, how are you charging it?

Random battery issue for me too. no update available to me yet either (tried to check with 3g and wifi and reboot). The stock charger is 850 mA. I charge mine every night on the stock charger.

Off at 5am
90% at 6 am after deleting 2 emails and taking 4 pictures.
40% by 5:07 pm with light use (not bad if this 40% were a linear usage figure)
30% at 5:12 pm
-Battery Pull-
Battery now shows 50%
40% at 6:32 - texting
20% at 6:52 - texting
5% at 6:57
shut off at 6:58
20 minutes charging shows battery at 15%
7:18 pm unplug charger and plug back in....now shows 60% charge (WTF?)
100% at 8:30
90% at 8:50 - using web
80% at 9:25 - using web
On charger for night at 10pm

So basically I went from 40% to shutting off dead in 1 hour and 50 minutes and all I did was send maybe 20 text messages. If only the bottom half of my battery acted like the top half!

Screen brightness at 15%, timeout to 30 seconds. Smart mode. Only live widget is beautiful widget home weather. WIFI off, bluetooth off, gps on (only when called by apps)

I didn't want to admit it, but my battery f ing sux too. Took it of the charger at seven, talked via skype for about 3 to 5 minutes and have been using skype to message and the battery is now down to 60% at nine. That's 40% in two hours! WTF?!

For me the battery life has been just fine and is significantly better than the Incredible (one of the main reasons I switched).

What widgets are you all using? I think the weather widget kills the battery. I took mine off the charger yesterday at 530am and didn't hit 60% until 10:30pm. I have the battery settings set to smart mode and the brightness widget is on the middle setting (not dark, but not full brightness). SMS all day, a few phone calls, Twitter, FB, and just toying with the phone. So far I'm impressed, maybe it is because I am coming from an Eris haha

That was one of my reasons for switching as well!! However, I found I am getting about the same battery life as from the Incredible when I had the TP2 battery in there. That and switching the stupid 3G Mobile Widget on and off ALL the time. (HTC 3G Radios SUCK!!)

The Droid X requires so much less battery/widget management! Got about 18 hours of moderate usage before it died yesterday so I am quite pleased :)

One of my main reasons as well. I'm getting, at best, about the same battery as my Incredible with the TP2 battery as well.

The X is still new, so I'm doing so much tinkering and the meter was inaccurate until the OTA update. Will have to let things settle to really determine how much battery I'm getting.

i was pretty impressed with my battery life yesterday....i got to almost 24 hours before i had to recharge again. this is what i did different

-got the OTA update
-rebooted my phone
-turned off advanced task killer
-turned off beautiful widgets home
-turned off battery indicator program
-charged the phone with the wall charger that was included with the phone

Yeah, right now I have Weatherbug Elite widget turned off and I'm trying to gauge if that makes a difference.

I do have a battery widget running too, but I doubt that's using too much batter.

I used that on my last few android phones, default settings are usually fine, but I turn off gps from within the app settings (can't remember if it's on by default).

I had the same problem until I changed to battery saver mode. In smart mode I was losing battery with no phone calls and less than 10 texts within 8 hours. I don't know if Launcher Pro made a difference but it's a free app I installed in addition to switching to batter saver mode.

Doesn't battery saver mode turn of your data after x amount of minutes without use? I think it is set to 10 or 15 mins. I need to be able to always receive my email so I had to count that out. Using smart mode I've been using SMS all day, snapped a pic, a 5 five minute phone call, bought movie tix, FB, check my Amazon account, etc and I am currently at 90%. Unplugged at 530am

My battery life has been great. I charged it last night. It's been running for 14.5 hours at the moment and is still at 80%. According to the default battery use details

49% has been used by the display
39% has been cell standby
13% has been phone idle

I've had it connected to wife most of that time. I've got poor signal at home (~-94db ) where it was on for half the time over night, and I've got ~-75 for a signal here at work where I've been for the past 6 hours. It was only off wifi for my ~50 minute commute this morning.

Showed the phone off to one of my coworkers and went to a few sites, and played wordUp for 10 minutes this morning. Over all I'd say I'm pretty damn happy with the results

yeah I think it turns off your data after, but that might just be for 3G, you might be able to use wifi just fine.

I think it also only turns it off during off peak hours which you can set. I have my off hours frmo 9:50pm to 7am. Which is probably why my battery didn't really go down last night.

I've also turned off things like gmail and twitter alterts/syncing. I near/on the computer most of my day. If I'm not its because I'm driving to/from work or hanging out with most of the people that would contact me. If I'm not I'll turn syncing on iff I'm going to be out or just refresh them manually.

So a week ago, I got my DX and charged it to 100% before using it, and I was massively impressed with the battery life.

I fully charged it and unplugged it at 5:00am, I have about 40% by 7:00pm.

14 hours and I still had battery left. A ton of use too...Facebook, Pandora, internet, calls, news widget, you name it.

Today, one week later, I unplugged it at 10:00am, phone shut itself off at 5:00pm. Same amount of use, I even flipped to battery saver mode. So 7 hours battery life now?

Really? Funny thing is that the first 10% is gone after 20 mins...

Can anyone tell me what's happening?

My wife's DInc had 44% left by 5:00pm, unplugged at 6:00am.
I can't believe the DInc get's better battery life than my DX.

I'm having a similar issue. My battery was so-so when I first bought the X, followed by great battery performance the last couple of days, but today it's a different story. I unplugged it from the charger at 6am, sent a few texts, went to work, barely used it at all from 7am to 4:30pm while I worked (a few texts and a few minutes of web browsing), and it was at only 50% at 4:30pm. I deactivated my Facebook and Twitter accounts, use auto brightness, no live wallpapers, no Wifi, no GPS, etc. I think I'm doing a lot of battery saving type things but it's not paying off. I guess I'll take a trip to the Verizon store to see if I can get a new battery.

Also, here's a dumb question. When people are saying "reboot", are you talking about a battery pull or just shutting the phone off and turning it back on?

SAME HERE. Except I never had decent battery life, it's been like this from day one.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL US WHAT'S GOING ON AND HOW TO FIX THIS???? This is a very serious fricken problem and it's getting really tired.

The difference in battery life among some of us is absolute BS.
