I tried this technique this morning. Here are my results.
Charged from outlet over night with phone on. Strong signal (-73db). GPS off, Wifi off, Mobile Connectivity off, Bluetooth off, Auto sync off, Screen dimmed to lowest setting on Power Control.
Rise and shine.
7:30am - 100%
Unplugged phone.
7:30:01am - 99%.

No activity whatsoever for the next 20mins. Taking shower.
7:50am - 92%.
No calls, no text, no emails, etc. NO activity on the phone at all other than standyby.
7:50am -Turned phone OFF.
Not just turned off the screen, but completely shut the phone down.
Plugged into outlet charger.
Ate breakfast. ~20 min later LED changes from orange (charging) to green (full charged).
Booted up phone while still on the charger (didn't want to use anymore battery power than necessary to keep the comparison as close as possible). About the same settings as before. Strong signal (-75db). GPS off, Wifi off, Mobile Connectivity off, Bluetooth off, Auto sync off, Screen dimmed to lowest setting on Power Control.
8:14am - 100%
Unplugged phone from charger
8:35am - 100%
8:55am -100%
9:15am - 99%
Got busy with work stuff. Gotta pay the bills after all. TGIF btw!

10:40am - 98%
In my independent testing, this technique seems to be very promising. I will continue to experiment with this for the next several days, slowly increasing the amount of services to determine if the battery life is actually being extended.
