Help Battery Issue? HARD RESET

keep repeating this until the powered off amber light only stays lit for about 1-2 minutes.

Unless I'm mistaken, is this possibly because the process of powering up draws more power than being plugged into an AC outlet can provide?

I think I should do the hard reset on my EVO, as my battery life has been kinda crappy since I got the phone. Initially, it would be out after 5 hours, and it goes about 8 hours now. I want the longer battery life though, so I want to know the best way to do a hard reset. ALSO, I installed that systempanel app (wonderful btw) and it shows that HTC Sense is running the the background, using 46.2M of my memory. The app shows 86% used memory, only 14% free (about 60M). Anything I can do about this? Thanks again!

YOU DON'T NEED A HARD RESET EVEN. I CAN CONFIRM, ALL I DID WAS THIS:

In the photo, you are running ATK. Do you see a difference in battery performance with ATK, and would you recommend for or against it? I have read things on each side, and I decided to uninstall ATK after reading some of them...

I have a EVO 4G, and I've been downloading apps like a madman. My Advanced Task Killer has gone from like 1 or 2 apps killed to anywhere from 9-30+ killed now. I feel that I have bloated my phone even though I have uninstalled all the apps I haven't needed/been using.

My question is the Android Linux-based OS get bloated like Windows where info just keeps piling up until it just starts glitching?

I see you talking about the hard reset, what does this do and why do it in regards to what you're talking about... I would rather do it now than later...

Please advise me on the best way to go about this. I have a LOT of apps... also, what is the best auto app killer? I have Advanced Task Manger as well that does it like every 30 minutes or an hour or so. Please tell me as well what I need to back up and what I don't. I've used WaveSecure's backup service for my contacts, etc... everything else is on the card right? Is there a good thread to follow for hard reset, and again, what does it do as far as helping the phone?

Thanks. Any other advise... please speak up.

This is my cell standby usage.this was taken just after a night of charging. Is this number good or not?

That GSM/CDMA thing is a placebo, the switch to GSM Auto is a visual bug due to the Force Close caused by using the menu to change radio. The force closing is an actual bug but not a very inconvenient one seeing as you can just switch the radio on the screen without even using the menu but hopefully HTC addresses it so people stop thinking the phone is actually in GSM mode when it isnt.

Hard reset and switching from GSM auto to CDMA auto has fixed my battery problems. Gave it a few days but I'm good now. Mine is always on CDMA auto, even after a reboot also.

You do realize that this is not a controlled test, right? Seems that you were running ATK before and not running it after. That right there could be a huge part of it as ATK tends to hurt battery usage.

I've done away with ATK myself. I saw nothing but negative impact on my battery using it.

I've backed up all my contacts in gmail. But I assume after a hard reset I will have to go back in and relink all the accounts to them(like facebook?) Also what about my apps, I am going to lose all of them, right? Is there a way to back them up, or will they all just sync back up once I reinstall appbrain? Anything else I am going to lose that I need to back up? What about photos I have downloaded form the net using the phones browser. Do they save to the card or the phone? Anything else?

Also the system panel app, is it only the paid version that has the graph?

Thanks a bunch, love this website. You guys and gals are awesome.

I have had EVO for 2 days now and constantly charging the batter. I take it off charger and 2 minutes later its at 90%.

I have changed to CDMA and hard reset. Any other advice ? Please PIM me as well post here.

Thanks!

so how do you back up your contacts to gmail? I want to try the hard reset, but I'm new to android and I don't want to screw up my phone lol

What this means is that even though you are connected to a CDMA network, your phone is trying to find a GSM network

Does this mean the EVO has a GSM radio in it? Can we take it to a GSM network and use it like if we go out of the country??

And could you tell me what ATK means

Thanks

well i don't know how i'm doing it, but im getting 2 hours and i'm still at 100%. My last charge from 100% to 1% usage lasted me 49 hours. No network trick, no sd card reset. hardware 003.

I did a hard reset a few days ago in order to try to fix a problem not related to battery life and my battery life has gone from about 15 hrs with normal usage to 8 hours with normal usage. Normal usage for me is probably less than it is for many of you.

And yes, I did the GSM/CDMA trick, turned gTalk auto logon off and updated prl. Also, I have not had ATK on the phone since about June 9th.

So, when you all first got the phone, did you leave it on the charger for the 8 hours/power cycle it? I'm getting an EVO soon and wondering if it is advised to actually power cycle before actually using it?

i did the hard reset, the multiple reboot and the CDMA change

i got to admit that i am managing to get about an extra 6 hrs of battery life out of the phone, a faster charge rate and slower discharge.... well worth a few hrs...

I did the TWS # dial trick and I'm not seeing anything besides battery info after dialing the # but not hitting 'Call'. Was this issue fixed with an update or something?

Pardon me if I did something incorrectly - I'm a 2nd day user with the Evo.

I did this last night. My phone was at 0% time without signal. But my battery life still wasn't good. Today my battery is down 16% after just one hour, the worst its ever been. Now says 6% time without Signal after putting it on CDMA. What gives?

So, Im trying to get this "test menu" after typing in (*#*#4636#*#*) and i get no such menu. After typing the number in, it disappears and my screen eventually dims. Any ideas?

So this was b4 a hard reset with ATK downloaded and all of the system updates...

And this is after a hard reset with no ATK downloaded and no system updates (prl, firmware, or profile)... Also did the GSM to CDMA trick with *#*#4636#*#*

Edit: apparently a hard reset doesnt elimiate the update i previously downloaded.. (http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/91176-clear-storage-doesnt-remove-update.html)

I really really hate to bump an old topic but even after searching I cannot figure out what program was used to make these battery graphs. Please someone chime in and educate me.
